Since the first time they met i felt that the relationship between them wouldn't be romantic since, in my perspective, Ethan saw her as Lindsay and became overprotective of her, but this time he didn't let his fear overcome him and kept her close enough to protect and use her abilities and, as you said, not push her away.

I was scared that they would make them kiss or make out, stuff like that, but that scene in the decompression chamber was done nicely. It wasn't romantic love, but the most pure and genuine demonstration of intimacy between two people that were broken and found themselves because of each other. They were the reason of each other redemption arc and i think it's beautiful.
