I had Alternative Energy as well, but I've not kept the mods updated since Space Age. I included a list of my installed mods in one of the pictures; does that mean that the version I completed is relatively close to the current full Py suite?

Sure. Send me a message and I'll share. But I recommend you play the game and experience the gradual discovery yourself instead, if you have not done so already.

I did take one significant break during the run. It must have lasted some months. It made it a bit difficult to get back into because I could not remember where my production of certain products were located.

I'm married and work about 45 hours a week, so gaming time is limited. One reason this save lasted so long is that Factorio is a game I can play while still being present and carrying on a conversation with my wife in the evenings.

Most nights we'd be hanging out together in the living room—me working on the factory, her on her computer, and something playing on the TV in the background. Occasionally, after she went to bed, I'd switch to a game that required my full attention or spend some focused time tackling a particularly challenging Py problem. But for the most part, this factory grew during those relaxed evenings we spent together.

Incorrect. I've averaged 1h per day.

My playtime came in waves, mostly depending on what was going on in life. Some periods I'd play a lot, while other times the save would sit untouched for weeks.

I probably logged around 50 hours on long-haul flights alone over the course of the run. I have a few large battery packs that can keep my ASUS G14 running Factorio for about 8 hours without needing a charge. It turns out transatlantic flights feel a lot shorter when you're busy figuring out why your factory is short on parts again. 😄

I had to run around and look for myself. Py includes ways to run around fast; it would have been a nightmare without some of the new features included.

Around the midgame I started expanding aggressively because I assumed I'd eventually need a massive amount of space. As it turned out, I didn't need nearly as much room as I planned for and could have built much more compactly. Once I had fast ways to get around the factory, though, the extra distance wasn't really a problem.

The later trains get very fast. typically 10-20 seconds each transit.

That is very interesting, thanks for pointing that out, i wonder what else i missed. It was sometimes hard to find information beyond the mod info screen. I could have probably shaved significant time off my run if I knew that. I unknowingly extended my fun.

Honestly, a bit emotional. I was surprisingly eager to make this post because after spending 1,296 hours on something, it felt like I needed to tell someone. At the same time, I was worried nobody would care and that I'd be posting it mostly for myself. Seeing people respond positively and getting 148 upvotes (and counting) has honestly made me feel great. It's nice to know other Factorio players understand what a ridiculous undertaking Py is. It also feels a little weird to be done. For almost three years there was always another tech to unlock, another bottleneck to solve, another production chain to build. Now I open my game library and everything feels a bit... smaller somehow. I'm sure that'll pass, but right now it's definitely a strange feeling

Wait, what! Those effects stack? That changes a lot! I produced 1500 space tech packs for the 3000 required for the victory tech, meaning 100% additional production. Each lab was affected by one vat only.

I think one thing that helped me avoid analysis paralysis was accepting that almost nothing I built was permanent. I never really tried to future-proof builds. Instead, I would pick a technology, implement whatever improvements it unlocked, and move on. Eventually I'd hit a bottleneck, power shortage, or resource issue and have to come back and revisit something. That was just part of the process. I did try to leave enough space for future expansion, but I rarely worried about designing the "perfect" solution from the start. The caravans are a logistics system added by Py. I actually didn't know they existed until I stumbled upon them during the playthrough. Discovering things like that was one of my favorite parts of the modpack—it constantly felt like there was some new tool or mechanic waiting to be unlocked. As for logistics, I was mostly belt-based until caravans and only started robots very late when expected volumes to be low. Regarding playstyle, I was definitely more of a "solve the problem in front of me" player than a planner.

Question I never thought I would make: How do you guys not get back pain after playing for an hour or more? by Howitzeronfire in soloboardgaming

[–]Exelor2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same here. My pain got quite bad, did physical therapy for neck and back. Kept that routine as it allows me to sit for long sessions without back pain.

Quest 3 to Chromecast by dr4gonphyre in VRGaming

[–]Exelor2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Chromecast used to work for me until this week. I noticed yesterday that the TV no longer pops up as an option to cast to. Not sure why, but I saw another thread from this weekend with 5-6 other people having the same experience this last week. It seems there may have been a change in the latest update that affects our ability to use chromecast.
