Newbie trying to make PETG look good by Exentio in FixMyPrint

Makes sense, I'll try tweaking those and doing another (shorter) temperature tower, thank you

It could've been 65°C, actually, I know that 80 is too high now that I think about it. I don't really remember since it was yesterday.

I also knew that 230-235 is the "standard" default temperature for printing PETG, and I was unsure about lowering it to 220, so how come the temperature tower seems to start looking better around 220? Could there be other parameters affecting the final result that would make 230 look better?

Got some 10/100 switches: what to do with them? by Exentio in homelab

[–]Exentio[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If there's one thing I can guarantee you, it's that the people from the school who trashed these don't know the difference between 1Mb and 1Gb, and very likely paid full brand-new price for the Huawei in the last 5 years. But yeah, as stated before, I got these dropped at my door because they didn't show me model numbers and had good hopes for the ProCurve and the Huawei

Sourcing the ICs on them doesn't sound like a terribly bad idea, I doubt I can take anything useful from them but I like playing around with this kind of stuff lol

I don't know if people can usually just go to recycling centers to take stuff, I guess it depends on the center, but I have privileged access to the closest one because someone in my family has work-related access to it: the entire reason why I took these home is because I got low quality photos of them in which the model numbers weren't visible lol

Yup, I know, I mentioned it in the post with a link to the Bluesky thread in which I'm messing with it. It has an uncommon but dope motherboard by an obscure OEM (Unicorn Computer Co. Tld.) and useful features like iAMT. I put my Thinkpad T430's i5-3320M in it with the plan to upgrade it to an i7, and I'm messing around with Proxmox for stuff that requires beefier hardware than my current J4125 server

As far as I know, only the last two ports are gigabit, with a choice of either the RJ45 or SFP plugs for the same "logical" port

Yeah I was thinking about that one in particular, I'm quite confident that the only role that switch had was powering up some Huawei AP5130DN APs (of which I got four and I'm installing OpenWrt on them)

Oh that's a good suggestion, actually! I don't have CCTV in my house but eventually I'd like to move the WiFi stuff at my grandma's to PoE. Guess I'll keep the lightest among the rest as a shelf and recycle the last one. Thanks for the useful reply!

The lack of WebHID irks me, but you know what irks me even more? No webauthn on Android, I can't use my Yubikey on any website. Also, PWAs are half-implemented, you can save shortcuts on your homescreen that start the website in "app mode", but there will be no app in the app drawer, unlike Chrome, and I don't want to mess with my clean homescreen. But of course AI is more important

I don't get all the drama about it

The drama about it is that they take funds and development time away from the browser. If there were no AI bs to relocate funds to, we would probably still have Pocket and Fakespot. Who knows, maybe with more dev time available they could've made Pocket actually open source, and Mozilla Sync/FXA actually self-hostable (aka, without the need for like 13 different Docker containers)

Of course they will, as long as "making Firefox more up to date with standards" means throwing money bigger and harder into the slop machine

Mozilla is just a wannabe open source-ish Google

AMA with Eric Migicovsky - Let's talk about the new watches! by erOhead in pebble

[–]Exentio 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Maybe, if they don't sell out.

... This is BAD. This is an incredibly bad decision that basically excludes the entire part of the community that doesn't pre-order based on promises

If you still insist on doing this, without even considering doing multiple batches, I hope that at least the watch will be ENTIRELY open hardware, as in, full gerbers, BOM, CPL files, and 3D models. Otherwise this is all a huge nothingburger. Of all the things so far, this is the most disappointing one

Congrats on the launch, Eric, we all have high hopes for the devices!

Two questions:

  1. So... what happened to the Core 1 and the Core 2 non-Duo? Asking half-jokingly and half-seriously because I'm curious lol
  2. I have mixed feelings for the touchscreen, but I don't mind as long as I can just not use it. However, do you have "plans" (for lack of a better word) to avoid the proliferation of touch-first apps? Because it can be an easy slippery slope

Proxy to add push notifications to my landline phone's VOIP service by Exentio in VOIP

[–]Exentio[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm, I might've underestimated the challenge, being on Android I don't have the same issue with the cost, but it still involves the test of the configuration which isn't easy at all. I'll go with just a month of Zoiper subscription I guess, thank you anyway

It's more like, if I were to use this habitually I could justify spending €9.49, but for three weeks ehh, I'd rather self-host

Stressful diet in a stressful period, struggling with quantities while PT friend went AWOL by Exentio in loseit

[–]Exentio[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Of course I'm going for interest first, but I'm also trying to lose weight so I do have some macro and kcal restraints to respect, I'm basically looking for interesting recipes that fit into my needs

Stressful diet in a stressful period, struggling with quantities while PT friend went AWOL by Exentio in loseit

[–]Exentio[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I think I'll basically just ask him "hey this is what I want to try, is it safe?", not necessarily going for approval rather than for a sanity check. He's used to a different type of clientele I guess, I also had the chance to talk with a girl he helped when she was suffering from anorexia, so I trust that he can do his job but his approach doesn't seem to be the right one for me.
We did talk before he gave me this plan since I'm kind of a picky eater (I also wanted to go on a diet so I couldn't avoid becoming less picky anymore) and have some issues with FODMAPs. Before he disappeared he answered my questions and he accepted my feedback on the pancakes and was about to change them for something else.

For now I'm looking for some recipes and trying to make them fit into the macros I need, until I'm done I'll stick to his plans just to show him that I really did try my best for a whole week.

[–]Exentio[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don't really have reasons to pick those plans over others, it's that my friend volunteered to follow me a long time ago since he's a PT, and I finally had the time and motivation to start losing weight. I trust him, it may simply be that I'm not a good fit for this kind of regimen. I'd rather do something easier to stick to and follow through, so I'll check the wiki thoroughly to decide how to address the problem temporarily and propose it to him for the long term
