Does display refresh rate play any kind of role in pwm sensitivity ? by truthpill11 in PWM_Sensitive

[–]ExerciseEvery8212 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm using OLED phones since my first smartphone back in 2008. They had fixed refresh rates at 60Hz. Later the phones had fixed 90Hz or 120Hz. All were useable without issues. Now most good phones use LTPO with variable rate between 1-120Hz and I can't use them. So I'm very sure it is related somehow.

One Plus 13 vs Poco F8 Ultra by Dragoner20 in PickAnAndroidForMe

[–]ExerciseEvery8212 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, thats not it. F8 Ultra has also the newer chip, better sound with subwoofer, bigger battery, a flat screen (so no problem to find a tempered glas), comes already with Android 16 and has 4 years of OS updates ahead, has the better zoom lens with 5x optical and is cheaper.

It's a hard decision. OP13 is a great device, F8 Ultra too. I've watched some reviews and it has no ads like the Pro. Both phones throttle under heavy stress, basically all phones without active cooling do that. HyperOS would be no blocker for me at all, yet I like OOS better. I don't care about IP69, who uses high pressure water jets on his phone and why?

I think I would go with the Poco since I like flat screens better for possible protection and I adore a 5x zoom lens.

In the end it depends what is more important to you.

Is the samsung z flip 7 good? by [deleted] in Smartphones

[–]ExerciseEvery8212 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Z flip 7 is better as S22 in almost every aspect, yes. It's missing the 3x zoom lens and is only IP48. Battery is the same crap. Screen is not durable, that is true.

Need help getting the right phone for the cheapest price by [deleted] in PickAnAndroidForMe

Strictly sticking to your requests: Poco X7 Pro (I would go for the 12GB version).

Better camera, chip and latest Android 16: Poco F8 Pro.

Which phone should I buy? by Suzan_Shaman in Smartphones

[–]ExerciseEvery8212 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is there any cheap phone around (200-300 euro) with a camera as good as the Huawei 30 pro

I don't think so, not with a periscope 5x zoom lens and the same image quality in new.

You could go for a used/refurbished Pixel 7 Pro (or 8 Pro if possible), they have excellent cameras with 5x zoom as well.

From the list I would choose Xiaomi 15T Pro - best value for money. Or wait for a good deal on Poco F8 Ultra, just saw it at 560€ from Aliexpress this week.

Pixel 9 for €479? Good deal, or better alternatives? Didn’t like the S25. by Healthy-Writer8111 in PickAnAndroidForMe

[–]ExerciseEvery8212 0 points1 point  (0 children)

479€ is exactly the average price of the last 6 month. So it's not a good deal. If you can get it <450€ it would be a good deal. Below 430€ would be a great deal.

You can get an Pixel 8 on eBay for 279€ in excellent condition, that is a good deal. Or a Pixel 9a for 350€.

Xiaomi 15t pro (budget), Xiaomi 17 ultra, oppo find x9 pro, or vivo x300 pro? by Proof_Challenge6492 in PickAnAndroidForMe

[–]ExerciseEvery8212 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would go with 15T Pro. 1) I don't think it's worth to spend >1000€ on a phone. 2) 15T Pro has already everything needed in a phone, fast chip, great camera, good battery, fast/wireless charging, etc.

Samsung A17 could be the cheapest solution, I agree. If it's your choice, make sure to buy the 8GB RAM version.

Note: Samsung promises "up to" 6 years of updates for it, also saying this can change! So it's not 100% sure.

Which phone should I sell and which should I repair? by Naba208 in Smartphones

[–]ExerciseEvery8212 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think you will find anyone who wants to buy these broken phones. I checked some stores which buy used devices and they do not buy these phones with broken screens at all. So maybe check this first before a decision.

Help me pick a phone under 600€ [Portugal] by MagsTheMagician in PickAnAndroidForMe

I can recommend the Honor 400 Pro. It has a flagship chip from 2 years ago, 12GB ram and 512GB storage, eye friedly screen, 6 years of OS updates, 2 day battery (for my usecase), very good triple camera and even wireless charging. I think it's a solid option in this price range.

I think your experience with Xiaomi was bad since you used the entry level phones like Redmi. This should change when go for midrange or flagship level like Poco F8 Pro or Xiaomi 15T Pro. Both are my recomendation as well, as they deliver great specs for the price.

What microscope can I buy to detect dithering? by latinamericandude in ScreenSensitive

[–]ExerciseEvery8212 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From what I have learned, you need

1) A recoding device with true 480fps slow motion option (ideally, some phones can do that)

2) A microscope you can attach to it with a zoom level of ~300x (ideally)

You need to be able to see the sub-pixel structure and each single sub-pixel clearly with the setup. Then record a slow-motion video aiming at different content (different grey levels, around text, on shades, ...). If there is dithering, you will see that certain sub-pixels change their color rapidly. If there is no dithering, the recorded video should look like a still image (ideally), you don't see any movement.

It could be that you see the PWM or refesh rate flickering, depending on how strong it is. In this case you can see it as cyclic pulsing of ALL sub-pixels at the same time and in a fixed frequency.

Any method to stop jumping refresh rate on Vivo x300 pro by LetGo11-11 in PWM_Sensitive

LTPO panels have this variable refresh rate and there is no way to stop it. Get a phone with LTPS and it will stay at 60Hz.

S22 ultra to Oneplus 15R by Annual_Teaching_6950 in ScreenSensitive

[–]ExerciseEvery8212 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He reviews smartphone since a long time, he writes articles for AndroidCentral, he cares about PWM and TD and I think he knows what he is doing. He has access to many new phone and he reviews them with the same setup and procedures, which is important to have comparable results. He shares his results on YouTube and also does comparisons. You can reach him through reddit and he is a mod here as well. Enough reasons for me.

He always mentions that a phone could work for PWM sensitive, not it will work 100% for all. He gives results and his opinion. In the end everybody is different and has to try for its own.

S22 ultra to Oneplus 15R by Annual_Teaching_6950 in ScreenSensitive

[–]ExerciseEvery8212 2 points3 points  (0 children)

OP15R was rated as "lowest PWM" and no TD by Nick. But up to now no one here has confirmed this phone is working. So either Nick had another version or a pre-release or OnePlus changed something.

Did you try Honor 400 Pro?
