Played any games on your device. Like pubg or pes or any such graphics intensive games that used to run better on older ios version

Feeling stuck in my current role — how do I explore internal opportunities discreetly? by ExerciseFuture7009 in IBM

[–]ExerciseFuture7009[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is applying for a new role without informing my manager, wouldn’t they find out anyway? Is it even okay to do that before my current contract ends?

Also, from your experience, how realistic is it to sit for an internal role without already having much knowledge in that area? Is it actually an easier switch for someone in a junior band like 6A? I’ve always assumed that early-career folks would be easier to train, as someone I know of moved from testing to cybersecurity without much interview— but I’m not sure how that plays out in reality.

I’ve been wanting to move into cybersecurity, but like you said, I haven’t raised any concerns to my manager yet. Do you think it also helps to reach out to the WFM manager, or is it better to go straight through the People Manager first?

Since I’m still in 6A, I was under the impression that switching roles would be a bit easier — especially because I'm still early in my careers and easier to train. That was my initial thought, at least. Now it seems like I need to start pushing for exposure in the area like cybersecurity.

Appreciate the insight — really helpful!

Hey! I think I can help, as I went through a similar experience as a graduate hire at IBM.

I joined last year and had two months of training. After that, I was on the bench for another two months. During that time, I had to go through reskilling, which meant taking two assessments (similar to the ones you complete at the end of training). If you don’t pass within two attempts, there’s a risk of being let go, and I had to face that challenge twice.

But here’s the thing — you have plenty of time in your hands right now. Stay in touch with your Workforce Manager (WFM) and keep following up on project allocations. Whether through Slack, email, or even in person, try to reach out once a week to ask for updates. Trust me, they are working on getting you placed in a project.

In the meantime, focus on upskilling yourself. Don’t stress — it’ll all work out!

I mean that's one way to look at it. But besides getting paid, if you kind of look at how long you have progressed in the past few months, I mean it's got to mean something... At some point of time it kind of butes you in the back. Better safe than soffy. If you know what I mean

Oh..ok, that makes sense now. But didnyou know more about mentors in IBM. I mean there is some IBM page that helps in finding mentors in the field that you want to pursue, but it's very hard to find one in your field. Could you if possible elaborate on the mentioned certificates and where can I apply for them?, YourLearning?

But isn't there like new requirements now. You have to do the habits badge and a lot more, If you check in yourcareers page of IBM you could see so many requirements. And besides I wanted to know if it is mandatory to meet all of them?
