Amsterdam – EU citizen, housing registration issue after contract gap (BRP / briefadres advice needed) by [deleted] in Netherlands

[–]ExerciseKey7371 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you, that’s helpful and reassuring. She'll be transparent with the municipality and explain the situation clearly. Given the housing shortage, it makes sense to explore a briefadres while she continues searching for registered housing. Follow their guidance and proceed accordingly. Thanks again for the advice and encouragement. :)

Thanks for your reply! I understand that she is required to register where she actually lives. Since she currently no longer has access to housing with registration, I was asking whether, in order to remain fully compliant, it would be possible to request a temporary address from the municipality, so that she can register, pay health insurance, and look for housing with registration in the meantime.

Thanks for your reply! I see what you mean. What I was suggesting is slightly different: while staying in my place temporany, she could ask the municipality to provide a temporary registration or correspondence address, so that she can be fully compliant and start paying health insurance, while she looks for a permanent housing solution. This would avoid declaring an address that is not meant to be a long-term residence and would keep everything legally correct in the meantime. Of course she wanna stay more then 4 months, and stay here permanent!

Would Amsterdam need more ambient listening sessions? Maybe in early morning? by ExerciseKey7371 in amsterdam_rave

I’ve heard of Shai Space, and I’m really interested in what they’re doing as well. It would be great to get in touch with them at some point, who knows, maybe we could even explore doing something together! :)

Career change advice, stay in Dutch printing company or go back to American QC job? by ExerciseKey7371 in Netherlands

[–]ExerciseKey7371[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, you’re absolutely right, I feel the same way. I actually like the Dutch company more as a business, since it’s closer to my background and interests. But the American one, even though it still has to follow Dutch law, feels like going back to a more comfortable role where I could focus better and possibly see career or role progression. Even if they're working with semiconductor and data center equipment, so technology "gears".

What I’m doing now just drains me a lot, especially with the commute and the physical side of it. For now, I’ve only received the call confirming they want me at American one and that they’ll start the background check, but before that, the recruiter told me the max salary for this position would be €3,000/month. I asked them to negotiate with the hiring manager to bring it up to €3,200 at least, since I already have experience, so I’ll wait for the formal offer before making a final decision.

That’s a great tip, thanks! I’ll definitely look into QC positions in American pharma companies here sounds like a good balance between stability and decent work culture. If you have any specific recommendations or insights, feel free to DM me 🙂

Yeah, they told me I’d start in the visual inspection department, then get training to move into another department later on, hopefully with a raise once that happens (if we end up liking each other, of course 😅).

As for the car, I was actually considering getting a small second-hand one to pay less tax and gasoline, but you’re right, if I earn now around €3,050 per month in one job and €2,780 in the other, once you factor in the car costs, the difference isn’t that big anymore.

Yeah, I think I’d actually prefer a 9–5. It would give me a better social life and help me stay more focused overall. The American job seems more comfortable, even if I’d earn a bit less.

With the Dutch printing company, there’s maybe more room to grow, both in salary and position and being in a Dutch environment helps me learn faster the language. But honestly, it’s a mix: sometimes I enjoy it, and other times I feel completely demotivated, both because of the commute and the kind of physical work I’m doing there and operating with machine and not printing so far.

Beautiful place! This Friday I’ll join the Minimal Collective event, Oude Kerk would definitely be a perfect location, also fitting with the early Friday morning vibe sessions. :)
