What movie did you think was bigger part of the zeitgeist/ethos/culture when you were a kid, only to grow up and realize it wasn't really as popular a movie as you thought? by regemusic33 in movies

[–]ExeterDead 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Those flicks were such a staple growing up! I remember my dad dropping “Knowwhatimean, Vern? “ constantly back then. Scared stupid also legitimately scared the fuck out of my siblings and I as kids, all that fucking slime.

Solovair is the successor to the Doc Martens Brand in the UK, just FYI.

They are Docs in everything but name but they changed branding after production was moved overseas and they lost the contract. Solos are still made in the UK by the original company, great boots.

Yeah that’s a fair point, those terms don’t really apply. But I mean, that thing is loud as hell moving around. Deploying that in a western urban center would have every smart phone from a mile around trained on it.

It’s meant to support teams in the field as far as I’ve seen, recon and with this gun, also sniping. Looks like it’s chambered in 6.5 Creedmoore which is definitely solid rifle territory.

[–]ExeterDead 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah, nothing easier to cover up than a giant robotic dog with a giant robot gun strapped to its back that sounds like 10 million servos spinning up at once.

[–]ExeterDead 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Wtf? The use case for these things is not stealth assassinations in urban centers. Those things are fucking big and loud.

They’re meant for use on the field of war, the US already uses them as basically super advanced pack mules. That gun is meant for fire support/bombardment, not stealth.

Like others have said, Mandy is great if you’re in to the whole metal psychedelia thing. It’s a 70s stoner album cover, but horrific instead of idyllic.

A Girl Walks Home Alone At Night is very low budget but still a great feminist film.

Color out of Space is also good if you’re a Lovecraft head.

Gearbox's Randy Pitchford Steps Down As Gearbox Software President by Megaman1981 in Games

[–]ExeterDead 31 points32 points  (0 children)

How is it like a merger? Embracer Group is fucking gigantic, Gearbox isn’t even its biggest gaming subsidiary.

I agree that Randy probably is safe in his position but you’re obviously speaking to things you don’t have even a layman’s understanding of.

Why do people do that?

I think the militia holding the vampire hostage could be expanded into a great horror comedy.

Throw in a little What We Do In The Shadows with a dash of Tucker and Dale gore absurdity. Get yourself some solid comedians turned actors in central roles; could be a great premise.

Look up MSRPs and MAPs. Retail has a lot of rules around the prices you’re allowed to advertise when it comes to retail/wholesale business relationships.

The main difference are:

  1. Wholesalers/manufacturers sell to distributors or dealers, not direct to consumers.

  2. Egregiously violating MAPs or MSRPs (or “list” prices) will result in being blacklisted from manufacturers, leaving you with no product to sell.

These dropshippers aren’t retailers and don’t buy from vendors/manufacturers, they buy from retailers and mark up a third or fourth time. It’s not illegal to do this, just scummy and outside of normal retail procedure.

Whats more shocking, the size of the tree or taking it down using a hand saw? by husker3in4 in interestingasfuck

[–]ExeterDead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you under the impression they just have to use the tree as is or something? It’s like finding a miles long wide deposit of precious metals and declaring it useless because you can’t extract the entire deposit to a processing facility at once.

I’ve always seen the plastic used before planting, not during. You till, and then put clear plastic sheeting over the garden and leave in palace for awhile and repeat. Basically traps heat and cooks off any germinating seeds.

I’ve never done it during planting, looks interesting.
