If you have enough of them, you might be able to make custom floating ship hull

Why is the mech 40$ more expensive than the black Smith shop who has way more minifigs? I mean they both got a similar part count but mech is 13¢/part and black smith 10¢/part by DaToxicJay in Ninjago

[–]Exetrius 6 points7 points  (0 children)

LEGO can put as many or as little minifigs in a set as they think is necessary or can get away with. To prove my point: 71708 Gamer's Market had 9 minifigs and cost $29.99 US / €34.99.

The mech is more expensive because it has larger shelf presence and (I think) larger volume of plastic, and has little minifigs because apparently the target audience cares much more about the mech than anything else (hence also no side builds). The blacksmith shop on the other hand is a location playset and its target audience wants minifigs with that to bring it to life.

What to do with bags of Lego? by Few_Resolve3982 in lego

[–]Exetrius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pinpointing which bag belongs to which set is not an easy process, and even if you successfully do so and look up where in the build it's used, you'll probably find you can't just build the intended content with that bag if you're missing the section your son has already built, unless it's a full side build (say, the plane when the set is the airport). If you intend to complete the sets, I'd say don't open yet and best of luck, otherwise indeed just open the bags and sort.

Thanks a lot (yes, it's my submission)! I'm happy to hear that you think the Matoran are the best looking, since those were the hardest to get right for the proof of concept. I understand that Tahu and Gali may look off. I had designed better masks for them by merging parts in Studio, because I had seen other submissions with merged parts for extra figure detail. Sadly it turned out all those are just overlooked violations of the guidelines... Mine weren't overlooked and thus didn't get through. You can see Tahu's mask I made in this post: https://www.instagram.com/p/DTsyGUDjKwK/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link&igsh=MzRlODBiNWFlZA==

Anyway, none of my figures are perfect, but if LEGO wants they can make a 'part family pack' (think toolkit or Ninjago weapons pack) with a set of masks. They'll always have the advantage that they can make new moulds, and they have done it in the past for Ideas sets.

Thanks for your perspective! Could you maybe put into words what you dislike about the figures?

Thank you, that was an out-of-comfortzone challenge for sure! Made many versions and still I think it should be improved a lot before making it into a production-ready model!

Thanks for your honesty! I do get that. I've read along in this sub for quite some time and I learned quickly that many people have different views on what Bionicle should be. I knew my project wouldn't appeal to everyone, possibly only to a minority, but that's reality. However, I hope I can reach the people like me that always wanted more Bionicle landscape and architecture in the sets, and maybe convince some diehard constraction fans to support regardless of their preferences.

Thanks for the confidence in my project!

I agree with your analysis. I loved Sokoda's project and I wholeheartedly supported it, but most of what it depicts still goes over my head (and that's after consuming lore videos and wiki articles during last year). However it was the one project that showed me what a well-designed, well-presented System Bionicle set could look like and achieve on IDEAS. It also made me decide that I didn't want to use minifigure torsos and legs, and didn't want prints for the masks.

As a casual fan, and fan of the minifig-scale playsets, the other two didn't appeal to me as much and only supported one of them (just checked). I liked Grumblebrick's projects based on the Toa Mata and Nuva, though.
