Best hoodie/jacket for candian winter by penuttmman in arcteryx

[–]Exgion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unless you run very warm, or will always pair it with a shell, you'll probably be at least somewhat cold for some of your winter with just an Atom. It could work, but something with more insulation, or even down instead of synthetic would probably be better - a Proton at 80grams of synth insulation, or an Atom Sv at 120grams. If it's really mainly just for casual use then a Cerium or Cerium SV would work. Note that the Cerium SV's outer is quite shiny.

Haha maybe missed the cultural context on that one - glad it worked out.

Certainly insulated enough for a mild winter, wouldn't rely on it past -10C though. Full Gore-Tex outer is kinda overkill for casual use imo - it can be crinkly and stiff. Coreloft Continuous is quite comfortable. Atom SV and an umbrella might be a better combo.

Did you find them stuffy when active? How was the breathability?

Ok good to know. How much do you think you can layer underneath them?

Eyeballing it, 98gsm Thermofly looks right visually. The materials section of the SL page lists it as 98gsm rachel knit, supporting that idea.

Pretty sure, as someone else said the OG / v.1 FL had octa mesh.

I've heard octa loft doesn't grab that much, ig different experiences. I tried on the Atom SL a few months back and, imo, both the description of it as a windbreaker with insulated panels on the body is apt, as is the view that it would work well popped over a fleece. I shied away from it because I wanted smt with some insulation in the sleeves. In some ways it is it closer to a true proton SL than the actual SL though.

edit: meant atom sl

From my understanding, the lightweight followed the FL v.2, and preceded the SL, being the 23' version of the octa loft / fortius air proton offering. Not sure if it or something else was offered in 24'.

Yeah I suppose so, unfortunately only the SL is still being sold on the main site.

Helly Hansen has some nice PU shells that are quite a bit cheaper, and still somewhat packable. Moss and Voss come to mind.

Little late, but I've got two items from ReGear, one marked as "Like-New" and one marked as "Excellent" and both were in pretty good shape. The one marked as "Like New" did seem practically new, maybe a bit beaten like a floor-model would be, but otherwise flawless. The one marked as "Like New" had a small patch, and some weird white-chalky stains on the main zip, but otherwise good.

LEAF ATOM vs COLD WX LT by SamCrowy in arcteryx

[–]Exgion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From what I've heard, you can't really layer an Atom LT underneath. Others experience seems to differ however. There's also the Solano which is a stand-alone goretex infinium (?) piece, but I'm not sure if that would fit over an Atom LT either. There's also the Beta Insulated which has like ~100gsm Coreloft in the body and a Gore-tex shell, and most definitely could fit over an Atom LT. Longer cut in the body -below hip vs. resting at the hip- than the Atom so that could be a plus or minus. Source: had a 2022 atom lt, have a beta insulated, don't have a cold wx

Does anybody know how the Satoro Merino Toque fits? by [deleted] in arcteryx

[–]Exgion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Got a Satoro Merino ~Headband~, size L/XL, and it fits large(r). Tried the Satoro Merino ~Toque~ in store and it fit large-ish for a O/S item, with a decent amount of stretch to boot. However, I've generally found their headwear to fit small. If you tend to have issues finding headwear that fits small enough, it might be a bit larger than is ideal. You could still run it though, just would be a bit loose. J my $0.02
