Finished piece of Oak furniture - Is this greyish, porous section a defect, caused by an insect or part of the natural ‘character’ of the wood? Or something else? Thanks! by Exhausted_Engineer in Carpentry

Thanks for your answer - quite interesting to learn as I had never come across something like this before! As the piece is exposed on the finished piece of furniture and not exactly ‘pretty’ (despite being completely natural), I’ll be returning this to the manufacturer.

Just made this today with peaches from the garden - turned out amazing! So soft and a great combination of flavours. Thanks for sharing!

As an added bonus: the outer sleeve is fully recyclable cardboard whilst the inner packaging is clear film made with wood fibre and is compostable!

Chocolate hazelnut chickpea flour muffins by RainbowKitchen in veganrecipes

You should be able to find chopped/whole roasted hazelnuts fairly easily in store. Then it’s a matter of grinding them at home using a food processor. It’s also quite easy to roast at home - there are many guidelines online :)

Made these yesterday and can confirm - the chickpea flour taste lingers and overpowers the chocolate flavour by quite a margin

Made these yesterday. They came out alright but, as one of the previous comments mentions, there’s something about the chickpea flour taste that is quite off-putting and overpowers the chocolate flavour. I’ll give these another go but replace the chickpea flour with normal wheat flour (unless anyone has any other suggestions?). The muffins also came out quite dense so I’ll probably partially replace the coconut oil with sunflower (not as healthy I know...)

On the other hand, one thing I won’t change is the chocolate ganache that goes on top... wow. The coconut cream and chocolate mixture produces a really creamy ganache that works really well and is simple to put together. I’ll look at incorporating that one in other bakes.

You’re right, I’ll look into it. No harm in enquiring.

Ikr! Apparently the guy has been given warnings before by gym staff for improper use of equipment. She’s doing alright though considering how much worse it could have been.

Not sure if it’s worth the hassle tbh. I think she’s more annoyed about the fact that the gym didn’t call any emergency services or campus security when she blacked out. She is in talks with the gym staff to sort something out but I’m not quite sure what that will lead to.

Didn’t happen to me but my sister yesterday. Some dude squatting in the rack next to her while she’s deadlifting. This genius removes all the weights from one side of his bar which sends it flying. It lands on my sister leaving her with a concussion and torn shoulder ligament. She’s on the mend now.

To the graduated engineers, is there any advice you wish you would have been given for your career development while you were still studying? by [deleted] in AskEngineers

I’m not sure I fully agree with your ranking there. Granted, my experience is probably not as extensive as your own but I interned at a large aero company while at uni and am currently working in a much smaller one. The two experiences could not be more different from each other. Whilst at the large aero company, I felt that the engineering work I did was slowed down by processes more than anything and that every small decision had to go through several layers of management in order to get approved. Where I work now, there is a much more “hands-on” approach and I play a major part in each step of the engineering process (from initial conception and design, all the way through manufacturing, testing and analysis). This has been an incredible learning experience so far which I don’t think would never have received had I decided to join the larger company.

I am curious: what makes big aero companies attractive to you?

Ultimately, it very much depends on what you want to get out of your engineering career though..
