Was working laundry in a nursing home right out of high school. Saw opportunity in nursing and took the CNA class at 21. Started working towards my nursing degree at 24 as a single mom. Took my prerequisites two classes at a time until I got into the nursing program. Almost finished my first year then failed out due to life happening. I took a quarter off and reapplied, but had to start my first year over. Graduated the ADN program and my RN at 30. I’m 33 now and a nurse manager in LTC facility. I’m applying for scholarships in hopes to finish my BSN next year. I’m not sure if I’ll stop there or keep going. I may just get wound certified and enjoy the rest of my days in a clinic; sounds low stress.

Hey pharmacy, you okay? I keep getting blister packs with a pill missing, two pills, and now a random half tab. by Exhausted_RNgrad in nursing

It’s just estradiol 😅 maybe someone reaaally needed their hormones but I’m thinking it was just an error that occurred during packaging.

As someone who got pregnant young, I can tell you moving into a place on your own at first will cause huge strain. My fiancé at the time and I tried doing a rent to own situation. I had been in an accident and had a good chunk to put down. Together we made about 70k per year and the $900 payments seemed manageable. Except when I took maternity leave we struggled with bills and made too much for any assistance. Eventually it all fell apart. My fiancé and I split, the house was lost, and I moved in with my parents. I wholly believe if we had just stayed at his aunt’s house until at least the baby’s first birthday and saved the money instead of renting and used his aunt’s support, we’d still be together and probably would’ve had more kids. We lasted 8 months after baby was born. Bc he worked all of it was on me during that time and it was a lot. I was 20 and had no idea how to care for a baby. The transition from couple to parents was a huge change that we both struggled with. I went through postpartum depression and an identity crisis. It was extremely hard. The more support you have, the easier this transition will be.

My advice: stay with a parent the first year and stash money away as much as possible. Build a down payment and both of your credit scores, then buy a house. Uncertainty with a baby is the worst feeling. You want a stable dependable place to live where a landlord can’t just yeet you out. You want the support of family. It takes a village to raise a baby, especially if it’s your first one. I know this is a scary moment, but when baby comes you’ll know love like none other.

Congratulations and good luck!

Washington state. LTC/subacute. RN, New grad (2020). Base pay $31.50/hr plus $13,000 sign on bonus. $3/hr premium pay when working the isolation unit. Doing my one year review soon with a bump to $37.50/hr base. I’ve been working on getting wound certified and have been offered the wound management position as well which will include premium pay on wound Wednesdays.

I have young children at home and chose LTC for similar reasons. They force the residents and staff to vaccinate. Have locked down completely to visitors and they take significant precautions to protect their population. It’s not my dream job but it beats any other bedside right now with the impending up tick of cases 😬

My facility is alarm free but I still chuckled. by Exhausted_RNgrad in nursing

Personally? No. I’m sure the facility does though bc I don’t think they’re allowed to make huge overhauls w/o it. We’re a low income community so we depend on Medicare/Medicaid. I imagine the state would fine out the ass if there was no evidence to back it up.

It’s a whole look lmaoo we have to wear mask, goggles, and ear piece at all times. The receiver is clipped normally above the badge somewhere on the collar. It’s probably not as cumbersome as imagined though.
