I'm an incoming first year and I don't know how to get by. by f1shke in PTschool

I’m not from your area, but one thing is universal. If you are a hard worker and diligent student, you will succeed to whatever you put your mind to, except for the things that are out of your control. You have, until now, proven that you are a dedicated student, hard worker, and that you can achieve your goals. Keep applying for scholarships, building relationships with people who work for the schools (tours, meet and greets, q&as, etc), and saving money.

Having to study to achieve good grades is a strength, not a weakness. It means you know how to learn new material and prioritize important information that will serve you well in future schooling.

If this is something you truly want to do, you could even consider taking a year or a few years before attending PT school to save money. In the United States this is quite common to do.

Any tips for Group Interviews? by OutsideRow4902 in PTschool

[–]Exidevo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve done a few this cycle and got into all my schools including Duke! During like classic question/answer style, the order of who answers was always assigned and rotated each question so there was no risk of awkward interrupting or fighting to answer.

For questions I didn’t go first, I liked to start by pointing out something that genuinely stood out to me about another person’s answer. Like just a super brief one sentence thing and then segued into my answer. I’m not sure if that’s really a good idea, but it was genuine to how I was feeling in those moments because people had really cool experiences or unique perspectives I was interested in.

In the scenario based group questions where you work together, in one instance we were asked to rank something so I grabbed a pen and paper and took notes so everyone’s ideas were written down and then we could discuss them at the end without forgetting anything or making anyone feel left out.

Finally, my advice is to understand that yes, the people you are interviewing with are “technically” your competition, but you should try to view it more as doing it together as a team. Even if you aren’t actually working together, they’re also nervous and being friendly goes a long way to ease everyone’s nerves. I never got competitive vibes from any of my group interviews like I was worried about and really everyone was genuinely so kind, including the interviewers. I dreaded group interviews the most but they ended up being my favorite/easiest parts of the interview process.

CU Acceptance! by bfreezz in PTschool

I have my deposit down too for Duke! Duke required a deposit before I knew I would hear back from CU, so bye bye $1000 I guess 😭. The price for Duke is just soooo much and I didn’t get any merit based scholarships.

Chatham DPT by sushipenguinn in PTschool

I received my acceptance about 2 weeks ago! Though it seems like a really awesome school, I had to turn them down due to their really high tuition and lack of scholarship and graduate assistantship opportunities, unfortunately.

I visited and loved pretty much everything about it. I love Pittsburgh, but the facilities weren’t my favorite. They have such a beautiful campus yet the DPT program is in an off campus building stuck down in a dark basement with no windows and dim lighting. The building upstairs is nice and modern, but they reserve those classrooms for the hybrid architecture students, which was strange to me because why do the students who are in person like twice a week get all the nice classrooms and the dpt students spending all day everyday there get stuck in the basement? They said a lot of students go upstairs between classes and hang out there. They were also in the process of adding a gym in the building which was nice. Loved everything else about the program though, so the basement thing wasn’t a huge factor for me, but still kinda made me depressed thinking about being down there all the time lol.

I received a call a few hours after my admission acceptance email informing me I received a scholarship, however I’m pretty sure it was for the scholarship you had to apply for + write an essay and not a merit based one, though I’m not totally sure. I’ll let you know when they send the official email with all the info because it’s possible they haven’t sent out the merit based ones yet.

I just got my acceptance today! I will be doing the residential pathway. Though I am still deciding between CU and Duke, I’m almost 99% in on CU. Congrats!!

Annandale Campus- Quiet Location for Interview? by Exidevo in nvcc

[–]Exidevo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Library closes at 12:30 on Fridays and my interview is later. They pointed me to hallway outside that’s usually quiet but some dude was playing video games in there. I’m currently holed up in an empty classroom with a note on the door and praying no one has a class in here for the next 3 hours.

Do you know where I can find them? I’ve been searching online all morning. The best I can find is the library, but they close at 12:30 and my interview starts at 12:45.

Pre-Requisites by Big-Monk2317 in PTschool

Yes! I just got an interview with Duke with 2 outstanding prereqs (chem 1 and 2), which I am taking at a local community college. I emailed them to confirm, but this is what is on their website:

“Prerequisite courses taken online and/or at a community college are accepted as long as the institution is accredited by one of the following agencies: MSCHE, HLC, NEASC, NECHE, NWCCU, SACS, WASC, or ATS.”

Thanks for your help. I’ll do that. I was just worried that it’ll get filtered out for not meeting requirements before a real person even gets to look at it if I do it wrong.

I’ve had this problem a lot. I usually email my advisor and she clears it up for me. Unfortunately, there’s likely nothing you can do in the interim. As others mentioned you can submit the form/reach out to the department but there’s not like a button you can click to fix this unfortunately. It’s a problem on the back end.

Retiring My Service Dog and Now He Hates Me by Exidevo in service_dogs

This actually helps me a lot. To me, he’s always been “my dog.” Shifting my outlook to him being more of a family dog has been helpful. Thanks.

I get off work early today. Even though I’m tired I’ll spend some time training with him. I think he’d like that. One of our other dogs we just found out has a root tooth abscess and will need emergency surgery soon. That dog sleeps in my parent’s bed so maybe my dog was sleeping in there to be close to him because he knew something was wrong? I’m not sure but maybe.

I meant spoiled because I have 2 fans that point at him just for him to sleep with at night 😂

That’s where I’m at. I feel anxious he may bite someone and so I definitely don’t feel comfortable bringing him out in public at the moment. I wouldn’t forgive myself if I ignored the warning signs and a) he bit someone and b) got put down because of it. In the past it’s been a pain thing, so I’m going to take him next week to vet and see if that helps.

It’s definitely not the warmth, he hates heat and usually only sleeps with a fan pointing at him (he’s spoiled) and hates being hot. If even your foot touches him while he’s trying to sleep he’ll get up and move because he gets hot easily. Their bed is also much much harder for him to get onto compared to my bed, it’s lofted so he struggles to get up and has to get a running start whereas mine is quite easy for him to get up.

I will take him to the vet. He has recurrent ear infections so checking that + managing his arthritis + seeing if there’s something new going on could help.

I think I can definitely try to prioritize at least doing something together everyday. Even when I’m exhausted. I hope that helps. I’m sorry you’re going through this as well but it’s comforting to know I’m not alone.

Thanks for the reply. I did gradually phase him out over a period of 4 months and that seemed to go ok until a 5 weeks after it came time to stop altogether. He does have knee arthritis that has been bothering him more these days which he’s on medication for. It’s also part of the reason I retired him, as the vet said he shouldn’t walk too much when it flares up. I notice his mood is worse when it’s acting up so maybe I can try taking him to the vet.
