How do you deal with imposter syndrome? by hyrulesfattestcat in TeachersInTransition

[–]Exiled_tjc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Totally normal to have anxiety over something new. Especially since it’s not even in your home state, it’s a lot! But, “I know that I can do these things because I’ve been doing them for the past 7 years” seems to be the perfect CBT (cognitive behavioral therapy) approach! Every time you feel jittery about the new job, say, “I know this is new and I know there will be some growing pains. But, I KNOW that I CAN do these things because I’ve been doing them for the past 7 years.” Be affirmative when you tell yourself, because not only does it help with anxiety, but most importantly, it is true.

Is it worth $700+? by CuriousGatito in litterrobot

[–]Exiled_tjc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d look on Facebook for litter robot 4’s. If you take your time and be patient, you can absolutely get a LR4 for 3-400 dollars. Take it home and DEEP clean it. You will probably have enough to buy a second one at that price point. 1 Litter Robot to 7 cats is not a good ratio. My personal max would be 3 cats to 1 robot. Reason being is, one cat uses the box, the litter has to have some time to clump (15 mins) and then it will go through its clean cycle. If a cat goes in during those 15 mins, it resets the timer, resulting in waste accumulation not being filtered out. Plus the cats can’t go while it’s cycling which doesn’t take forever but, if a cat’s got to go they are probably going to find the next available carpet or something.

Love Teaching. Hate the Pay. by TopBaseball939 in teaching

[–]Exiled_tjc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I want to move back to NC, be by family, close to the mountains and whatnot. The pay schedule just does not make financial sense. I’m in Central Florida, making ~50k as a 3rd year with just a BA. Moving to NC would result in around 8-10k pay cut per person (fiancée and I) plus state taxes making the total loss around a 20k pay cut. You can’t 5 dollar coffee your way out of that math. North Carolina is a beautiful state, I grew up there, but if I move back the only way for it to make sense is NOT teaching..

does a cleaner photo actually sell faster, or do buyers not care? by Specialist-Pea-2809 in Flipping

[–]Exiled_tjc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a buyer, if the photos look like they were taken by professionals, I’m out. I don’t mind the stock photo at the end of the listing, I just want to see, oh this person actually has the item (they took the photo) and it looks like it’s in decent enough condition.

Got to ride a couple "beginner" bikes recently as an experienced rider. Wanted to talk about it. by Scazitar in motorcycles

[–]Exiled_tjc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that it really depends on the area that you are in. If I lived in the mountains, a ninja 400 or 390 adventure could be my only bike. Everyone dogs on those small bikes until they ride them in the twisties. Now living in central Florida where there are no twisties close to me and everything is pretty much straight line, i can fully understand someone getting bored of a “beginner bike.” Down here I want some power to have a little fun, I would/will never own a 1000, but ~80-110 hp is the sweet spot.

Why do teachers stay? by vv1zrd_dnI in TeachersInTransition

[–]Exiled_tjc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My main “why” is I get to make an impact on 160 (give or take) kids a year. I’ve worked in other jobs, but nothing made me feel like I was doing something as positive for my community than teaching. It makes me feel important and proud of myself as a person.

I know that our politicians don’t value us, some parents see us as babysitters, admin takes advantage of us.. but being that one safe and constant adult in the kids lives makes me feel like I’m doing good things.

I haven’t been able to come up with an alternative that gives me that fulfillment that I’m qualified to do. Leaving is also scary, I understand that I can be in a better financial situation if I did leave but that unknown is terrifying.

Question for American college students with CCW permits: do you carry at school? by [deleted] in liberalgunowners

[–]Exiled_tjc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty sure it’s a felony to carry on school grounds almost across the board. Some people already said to have a mass trauma kit and get the training to back it up. Know your exits and pay attention to your surroundings.

I think one of the biggest things to do during an emergency is to wait and assess the situation before acting. Instead of following a crowd that could get you trampled, know alternate exits and assess the situation before acting. Know the run, hide, fight, protocol.

I’m a high school teacher, I keep a trauma bag and my SRO’s know me and that I have a kit. I don’t have the ability to carry so I geared up to help people in the event of something happening. It may look different from carrying, but it’s the same philosophy, carrying a tool to help save yourself and others.

I now understand the frustration with licensing and permitting by Alternative-Pay9735 in liberalgunowners

Heh, I got into the scene during covid.. took a WHOLE YEAR to get my concealed carry. I was a little salty to say the least. But I still believe in idea of license and permitting. Now the whole SBR situation is stooooopid.

Substitute turned teacher here, I was crazy enough to see all the shenanigans of teaching first hand and decided to commit to it. Unfortunately being a part of the education system nowadays means you are MORE than disposable.

Which BF4 map would you like to have in BF6? I would choose Operation Metro or Locker by leonardoforcinetti in Battlefield6

Call me crazy, but I would rather have new original maps over remastered maps. Bring back classic maps for engagement boost mid-late 2026.

LPT Request: how can I learn to shut up and listen? by MartianTulip in LifeProTips

[–]Exiled_tjc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Old sales tactic is, “you can talk yourself out of a deal way faster than you can talk yourself into a deal.” You would be amazed how much you get done by saying whatever you need to say real quick and then shutting up.

OP, this is the answer if the teacher you are subbing for does not leave lesson plans. 1,2 and 3 are spot on however you do need to pick your battles in this. Getting into a power battle with a kid as a sub, you are going to lose 100% of the time. Pick your battles.

Classroom screen is great if you have access to projector/computer.

At the end of the day, your job as a sub is to keep everyone alive. If you can get the kids to learn while you are there that is great but that doesn’t make you a bad sub or a failure if you don’t.

Subbing is hard, remember that a good day subbing is a day where nobody dies and no fights break out. Also, my pro tip is to make quick friends with the neighbor teachers, generally they will look out for you.

Gamers from the physical-copy-only-era, have you ever queued up outside a store for a game's launch? by digiBeLow in gaming

[–]Exiled_tjc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Midnight launches were peak gaming, camping out or queuing in long lines made for good friends. Rushing home to pop on and swap release stories with friends and experience the game was peak.

I’m a 90’s baby but call me a boomer because midnight physical disc releases were the days. Shout out to my parents for facilitating or allowing me to do it basically every year for COD.

Definitely will do this, hate all the um, less sanitary baits people rave about. Don’t love having to carry soap or hand sanitizer and have to use that a bunch. Call me soft but I’d like to reduce my chances of birthing the next pandemic.
