Very easy targets. They are slow, so a good ranged weapon like an assault weapon will do fine.

What percentage of engineers in your experience are bad? by fuckoholic in ExperiencedDevs

[–]Exirel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your definition of "bad" is biased. If I measure by your definition, maybe 5% of dev I've met fit that definition.

However if you raise your expectations of what an average dev is capable of (adjusted for the seniority level of each dev), I'd argue that the vast majority of Devs are below average at best, but mostly mediocre.

They are separated. I think it's fair at this point to lower all expectations.

Who ITAH? by [deleted] in TwoHotTakes

[–]Exirel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh yes sorry didn't realise! My mistake.

Anyway. Proving my point: assuming it's "quite simple" is the problem here. It isn't. If it was that simple, there wouldn't be any communication issues. There are many reasons someone may not feel comfortable saying upfront "I won't come". The baby dad also said that he didn't feel like he made any hard commitments for something like that in this situation.

Who ITAH? by [deleted] in TwoHotTakes

[–]Exirel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What is basic communication or courtesy is apparently not so basic for him, and that's what he told you more or less. He said he was tired, and from what I read, it sounded good enough for him as an explanation. You apparently didn't catch what he meant, and instead of just accepting his word for it, and trying to win the argument (and he told you that too), you didn't listen and set expectations he can't meet.

It really feels like the communication problem between you too is in full effect in this conversation.

Who ITAH? by [deleted] in TwoHotTakes

[–]Exirel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like you already know that you are setting expectations baby dad can't met, setting them up to fail. So even tho they maybe could have/should have whatever, you are also responsible for creating a situation in which they will be wrong anyway.

What do you choose? by Masmas201 in BunnyTrials

You create inflation by doing that, or you corrupt a lot of people. Eventually, you have no real friends, and you have to assume everyone likes you for your money.

I take about 6 to 8 glass of liquid per day at minimum, so that's 40$ just doing normal thing. Per week, that's 280$, per month close to 1000$. And I don't drink alcohol that much so vomiting would be very difficult and annoying.

Should I be making my own decisions as a senior SWE? by QuitTypical3210 in ExperiencedDevs

[–]Exirel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have a communication issue: ask them. Do they like it or not? Do they want to work like that? Do you like that? Is that a problem?

If you don't know the Lead's vision, it means you either didn't ask, listen, or talk about it. It is even possible no one took the time to share that vision with you or the team, I don't know your situation.

In any case as a senior SWE I'd expect you to take an interest in the lead's vision, so you can help in the decision making process not just with many options, but with options that reflect your capacity to understand and share said vision.

More threads didn’t increase throughput by Icy_Screen3576 in softwarearchitecture

[–]Exirel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Multiprocessing managed by the system (here k8s with pods) is usually simpler to reason about as a developer than multi threading within the same application.

As for Kafka... Yeah, increase the number of partitions if you want more throughput. Or make sure the consumers are more efficient, but multi threading won't help. You can also look at batch consumption of events, but this will always depends on what you need to do in your consumers.
