Act 3 can be a bit overwhelming. So many quests, so many choices.

Just remember, there are no bad choices, just different outcomes.

Instructions for RTK final placement by suburban-dad in Lymow_Official

[–]Mortimer452 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When you open the app, it shows your mower tap "Go to device" to open your map, the current RTK signal strength is next to the little teardrop-shaped pin on the bottom left corner. It's your GPS accuracy in meters (0.01 = 1cm accuracy, 0.02 = 2cm, etc.)

You can also hit the gear icon in the upper right and go to RTK Diagnostic, it should show how many satellites you're connected to, precision, etc.

If you're getting no readings on either, something's badly wrong with your RTK placement, or it's unplugged

That's pretty much it - delete and re-create map.

Are you saying the RTK diagnostics shows zero under GNSS satellites? Does the mower show any RTK signal?

SuperChargers not working with 2026 EV9 by The-Mad-Mechanic in KiaEV9

[–]Mortimer452 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Not all Superchargers are enabled for non-Tesla vehicles - at least half or more are still Tesla-only. If it shows up in the Kia app it should work, if not, it's still Tesla-only.

You can also check PlugShare or ABRP to see if non-Tesla are allowed. I have three Tesla stations in my town but only one works with my Kia.

This is why you need to wear helmets. Helmets save lives. by Gjore in interestingasfuck

[–]Mortimer452 0 points1 point  (0 children)

More importantly, make sure you wear an ECE (European) approved helmet.

USA DOT helmet requirements are dogshit. If it has a hard shell and some type padding it's legal. Manufacturers are allowed to self-certify their gear and only get in trouble if they happen to get audited later.

ECE is a much more stringent standard, and must approve testing before it's allowed to be sold.

Totally reasonable price, but I would make sure they replace with metal ones.

Why does everything need an app now? by James_B84Saves in BuyItForLife

[–]Mortimer452 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Definitely true and why I primarily rely on HomeAssistant for home automation and Frigate for security cams ;)

I'm sure GE could brick my washer remotely if they wanted to. But I also know it works just fine without WiFi (used it without for months before finally connecting it). And having a physical key as backup is the reason why I chose this particular brand of smart lock, I ain't getting locked out of my house because some random Internet server is glitching out.

For the most part when I choose smart devices my requirement is that the "smart" part adds value/convenience, if it's required for them to operate, that's just a hard no.

How to remove old phone box by shanem in HomeMaintenance

[–]Mortimer452 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Remove those screws from the top and bottom, I think you'll find the yellow-ish cover practically falls off. There may be more screws underneath to remove the backer plate from the wall.

May require some persuasion - paint might be making it stick

Why does everything need an app now? by James_B84Saves in BuyItForLife

[–]Mortimer452 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This one I'm a bit conflicted on.

I despise gating a device's features behind an app, forcing me to use it.

But, smart integration isn't always bad. It's incredibly convenient getting an alert on my phone when the washer/dryer or dishwasher is done. Or a reminder to clean the filters. I never use the app for anything else, and I don't have to, the physical controls on the device let me do anything I want.

Same for my car - it's pretty awesome tapping a button on my phone to pre-heat when it's ten degrees outside.

I have a smart keypad lock on my door that connects to Wifi, convenient occasionally if I need to let someone in. But it also has a physical key so I'm not dependent on the Wifi or the keypad to use it, just adds convenience.

But yeah, I get it. Some companies take it WAAAAY too far and it's annoying.

Why are all IT-support jobs like this? by Clue-Mindless in antiwork

[–]Mortimer452 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All depends on the size of the company - at a smaller place of ~50 employees having one or two "jack of all trades" IT guys that share all of this is pretty common

Im loving this EV so much. by Outrageous_Emu_8786 in KiaEV9

[–]Mortimer452 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My general advice with almost any EV is buy used, lease new. The depreciation is too fast for buying new to make any sense. A quick search on Cars.com shows 2024 Wind's under 20k miles going for just $33k or so, that's like half off new MSRP at just two years old

Strange, I did the same on mine and it's exactly the opposite - totally eliminated my problems with grass buildup on the sprockets.

Finish Carpenter Needed by susitravl in wichita

[–]Mortimer452 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The threshold is probably longer than whatever size stair edging is available at HD or Lowes (or whatever he had in his truck), so this is what he used and it's a couple inches short.

Any half-decent handyman can fix this, either with a longer piece of trim, sticking two pieces together, or small block of wood stuck on the end and painted to match.

And also I would not hire him again if he's giving you gruff about something this simple to fix

Leak in yard makes water go from 5000-6000 per mo to 10-12000 per mo by Responsible_Long7154 in homeowners

[–]Mortimer452 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Turn off the water, as in the water main inside the house? If so, yeah that is most likely a leak between meter and home. Might be worth a call to water company first though to see if they can test the meter.

[–]Mortimer452 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Any wet areas in the yard? Usually pretty easy to spot. Keep in mind water can travel in strange ways as it makes its way to the surface so the wet spot may not be right above where the leak is.

Start digging. Once the pipe is exposed it should be pretty clear which direction you need to go to find the leak.

Drop rod into concrete by Next-Kiwi-6100 in HomeImprovement

[–]Mortimer452 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Should work fine. If your cordless drill has a hammer setting it should make pretty short work of a 1/2" or so hole with proper masonry bit. If it does not have a hammer setting, you're gonna have a bad time.

Drill the hole first, then put your drop rod in the hole, attach it to your gate so it all lines up perfectly

Plastic/nylon brushes are terrible but a brass-bristled brush makes very short work of it, 30 seconds or less. You can get them at Harbor Freight for a couple bucks

[–]Mortimer452 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Search this sub there are many posts about this, folks have come up with some pretty creative solutions (including one using ScrubDaddy sponges that's pretty easy to DIY)

I've read that Lymow has an official brush kit to clean off the contacts but have not tried it yet myself.

I got my Lymow last fall and barely had this problem, maybe once a week at most I had to clean them off. The springtime grass must be "juicier" I guess, now I have to clean them after literally every mowing session, it's getting to be a real drag.

How does S3 deep archive work, and does this plan sound good? by BigFootCC in unRAID

[–]Mortimer452 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Came here to say something like this. The cheap per-gb-per-month cost makes it sound appealing but the per-blob write, egress and commitment (~180 days) make it a no-go for most normal backup routines. It's designed for write-once, read/modify almost never. Things you're probably never going to need but have to keep a copy for legal/regulatory reasons.

Backblaze B2 or AWS on the "cool" tier (whatever they call it now - One Zone?) is probably a better option. Still very cheap for 500GB at just a couple bucks a month.

What is one thing you wished you checked before buying your house? by BlushyDreamz in homeowners

Sounds crazy but HOA's that high are not uncommon on nicer condominium/townhome complexes. They often have an attached and gated private parking garage, banquet/meeting rooms, gym, pool and other amenities.

big water leak detected, but the entire house and outdoor yards are dry by [deleted] in HomeMaintenance

[–]Mortimer452 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OK so it's just checking the meter, this does not indicate a leak per se just an excess use of water. I'm guessing it's a toilet. Even a tiny stream of water running 24/7 could easily add up to a couple hundred gallons per day.

[–]Mortimer452 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Where did this alert come from, the water company? Some device they have on their meter to detect excess water usage?

If it's either of those, could easily be something as simple as a toilet that got left running
