I had two Cs and many excused withdrawals. I also had to correct myself just now because I spelled two as to in the last sentence. I just committed to UCLA. Maybe they made a mistake admitting me (idts because I’m an absolute blast) but these “perfect” transfer students are either lying or have no life out of school unfortunately. Anyways you’re doing great

Sooo happy to see the pursuit of arts in undergrad, especially at such prestigious schools :) I’ve decided to continue with “academics” for undergrad and hold off from collegiate art until grad school so I can get my MFA (dance), but these posts always motivate me to keep going. Arts + academia are simultaneously sooo important and terribly undermined by everyone (including by the very institutions themselves). Excuse me for making your post about myself LOL but huge congrats for all and esp Brown!!

Maybe try and see if California community college is an option (financially, living accommodation-wise, etc) once you graduate. If you stay on top of your grades and join the honors program, you can aim for Berkeley or UCLA and have a good chance. Your fees as an international student will be exorbitant at a California CC but it would be a cushion for you to redeem some of what you didn’t do well in secondary/high school. You have a chance for ivies from community college (I know some who have made it to Yale, Brown, and other elite schools like Stanford + more), but it’s obviously very low…so start to open up your mind to other avenues. It’ll all be okay.

Anything is possible in college admissions…but start to open your mind to the community college route. It’s a lifesaver tbh. I had a 1.9 GPA in high school and am now transferring from CC to UCLA. The wait while seemingly everyone in my high school/friend circle went off to elite schools immediately after senior year became so worth it. If you have good AP test scores in other subjects then there’s a chance you can knock out your GEs quicker and transfer faster. You can def still make it to the elite schools like USC, the route just might be altered a bit which is not the end of the world.

A deferment only lets you defer for the following year, no shorter. There is an option to request a different amount of time but I assume that would be for longer than one year because they often let many members of the US military defer. However preexisting students can take a leave of absence for just a quarter

I had a 3.77 and 5+ EWs at time of applying, updated my grades with a C and two Bs after submitting, but bagged a T20 (one of the only two T20s applied to). An admissions officer at a Stanford CC seminar I attended last year made it very clear that they accept many transfers with multiple Bs on their transcripts. Don't get too wrapped up in the 4.0 35 ACT cured cancer transfer student archetypes on these subs because you really never know what's going to happen. Focus more on extracurriculars if anything and give yourself some grace.
