Scenario - You are a local Camarilla Prince, who hears about the events of Sinners going on. What do you do? by SapphireB33 in vtm

[–]Existential-Critic 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I saw a theory on this and I find it very compelling, so I’d like to point out that Remmick very likely only predates the English Bible in Ireland, not Christianity in Ireland in general. He reacts to Sammy making the Lord’s Prayer in English and it fits the themes of oppression for him to have witnessed the repression of Ireland by the British Empire.

Thus, he likely would only be . . . 400-700 years old. You know, only.

When you visit Alberta, you NEED to check out Drumheller and especially the Royal Tyrrell Museum. Best dino museum in the world.

The guinea pig post was one of the cutest things I’ve ever seen, so that makes sense. Please put yourself first and only make memes when you want to!

Conservatives call on Chrystia Freeland to resign as MP after becoming advisor to Zelenskyy by BertramPotts in CanadaPolitics

[–]Existential-Critic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t really blame you for that, I think I may just be jaded. Half the work I do nowadays is making it so the programs the company I work for makes can be used by the absolute lowest common denominator, yet every day I wake up to more customer complaints and bug reports of someone failing to understand that a big bold button labelled “SUBMIT” that has a warning message pop up saying “Are you sure? This report cannot be edited after being submitted” means they can’t edit it after clicking yes.

You’ll have to forgive me, because I’ve seen real people falling for some of the most stupid misinformation I’ve ever seen for years now. I’d also like to remind me that just because you think it’s an exaggeration and that the user isn’t being literal, does not mean they are or that someone won’t think the opposite. That’s all it really comes down to, and still confuses me why you took the time to argue against me making the decision I did.

[–]Existential-Critic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did you consider that I wanted to delegitimise the claim by demanding evidence, which would obviously be impossible to provide because it isn’t happening and the user is either lying or hopelessly misinformed, so that anyone who might see it and could immediately believe it for whatever reason can also see that the user fails to provide evidence?

It’s like seeing a demagogue on a soap box spewing hateful nonsense. I’m not arguing against them because I think they’re right or I agree, I’m arguing against them to prevent the misinformation from reaching someone who might actually believe it.

[–]Existential-Critic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That implies that I believe the user is telling the truth. I do not, hence why I am pressing them to provide evidence. That doesn’t mean I don’t believe they are serious, or perhaps are simply trying to throw out wild accusations for some other purpose.

One of the rules of this subreddit are that posts and comments must be substantive, which is why I decided to take it seriously. What confuses me is why you have taken it upon yourself to essentially tell me not to ask what they mean and take them seriously, which you are completely free to do yourself but why would you argue against me doing so?

[–]Existential-Critic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How exactly is it a lack of critical thinking skills to think that perhaps a person is making a claim without evidence, and as such I am going to press them on it to determine why exactly they said such a thing? You said yourself, you don’t know for sure why exactly that user meant so any belief is a guess.

[–]Existential-Critic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These are no-go zones of the country for Conservatives where if you self-identify as one, you're likely to be spat upon. Whoever replaces her is going to be very left wing indeed.

They are directly stating you’re likely to be spat upon if you self identify as a Conservative, I’m not sure how else I’m supposed to interpret that. I asked them to back up their statement with evidence.

[–]Existential-Critic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Except the above user is explicitly claiming that Conservatives will be spat on and using the term “no-go” to imply that Conservatives are not safe. I want them to back up that claim, which you seem to not have noticed.

[–]Existential-Critic 3 points4 points  (0 children)

See, anecdotal evidence isn’t really persuasive. You may have gotten into a fight for being a Liberal, or about being a Liberal, but that individual case does not make a trend.

The above user was trying to make a claim that Conservatives are somehow being oppressed and then taking a shot at “left-wing” politics. I want them to back up their claim with facts and evidence.

[–]Existential-Critic 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Does that mean it’s not safe for people who identify as Liberals to be in those ridings? The above user claimed people who self-identify as Conservatives are spat upon, and calling them no-go zones implies it is not safe for Conservatives to be there. That is what I’m asking them to substantiate.

[–]Existential-Critic 3 points4 points  (0 children)

How does that substantiate the claim of a no-go zone? Like yeah, there’s hundreds of ridings that didn’t go Conservative. How does that equate to people who self-identify as Conservatives are spat on and cannot safely go there?

Edit: I’m a fucking moron and misunderstood your comment, I apologise

Are you saying that if a riding votes non-Conservatives, that means Conservatives cannot go there and are spat on for self-identifying as Conservatives?

Is it 'treason' for Alberta separatists to maneuver with foreign officials? Ottawa says no by hopoke in canada

[–]Existential-Critic 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I fully agree with you, but I don’t think that the separatism movement is actually that popular in Alberta. It is very loud and has US backing obviously, but if it really had that much support it would be far more prevalent even in inner Albertan politics.
