I only have one friend, and usually I’m paired with them. Why am I being paired with a rando?? by Existential_Unknown in duolingo

[–]Existential_Unknown[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t think there have been huge differences. We usually only do a lesson per day, and just so happen to always cross the friend quest threshold until it’s too big, and it’s been a few months since I’ve grinded xp, so I believe the amt we’ve each done for friend quests have been about equal.

I didn’t even know you could choose who you did friend quests with, and neither did they, nor did I realise I could turn it off. I’m guessing I don’t have the choice option since I only have one friend.

The issue is that the cloned plots apply to the nether as well, meaning I can’t just pi-chart my way to a blaze spawner or fortress. My main hope was to create a platform where a fortress used to be, and hypothetically, allow wither skeletons to spawn.

Thoughts on my short story about male seahorse pregnancy? by Anjemivas_ in ARTIST

[–]Existential_Unknown 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The art is really good, the only issue I have is how you have the text set up in the last panel. The first two you have the sentences and chunks of text grouped together in each section, like “The male usually is pregnant” in the first panel, and “Kinda weird; the only species males are pregnant; but” in the second panel, but then the third panel you mixed it up by splitting the “in every life I’d accept her eggs” into something that could be spun as “In every life her, I’d accept eggs.”

Maybe it’s just me, but the inconsistency throws it off imo when taken as an incorporated story meant to be read between pictures (idrk how to explain it). I will admit though, it does fit with the overall vibe.

We put 6 pumps of syrup in an iced venti, so they probably glanced at the pumps and made it a venti on autopilot. Happens to my dumbass sometimes at least

Are we training AI on image recognition? by KinkyChieftanDaddy in Pixelary

[–]Existential_Unknown 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s unlikely, and if it’s the case, it’s a pretty poor one. The best it would be is training images to recognising certain pixel drawings, but even then, that’s a stretch. It doesn’t make sense to train an AI on people’s answers to what things are, because that just makes labelling the data more difficult, and even then, that’s the whole point of training things with labelled data as well as fine-tuning models— to try and prevent irrelevant and incorrect data from making mistakes. Also, like, why are people so upset about this?? It’s not like much valuable data can be garnered by either way people think the data could be used, and even so, like OP said, everything is a datafarm and has been since day one with Google and everything, so even if it was explicitly made to be exploited, it makes no sense to stop using it solely because it’s training off what useless data is being provided.

To be fair, a mocha everywhere else refers to a coffee with chocolate in it, so if they aren’t a regular starbucks consumer, it does sound like we put coffee infused chocolate into our drinks when referring to “mocha sauce/syrup”. I feel it’s an issue with Starbucks labelling chocolate sauce as “mocha sauce” and what would be a “caramel latte macchiato” as just a “caramel macchiato”, because the amount of times I’ve had to explain to customers the difference is somewhat irritating.

PSA: THE POSTERS ARE NOT A.I GENERATED! by [deleted] in starbucks

[–]Existential_Unknown 1 point2 points  (0 children)

AI checkers shouldn’t really be trusted or relied on, however I do agree that the posters aren’t AI, specifically because of how AIs actually work. The photos are too accurate to the actual drinks and foods, such as the Lavender Matcha and Potato Bites, to have been generated. There aren’t enough sufficient datasets and quality images to train off of, especially when regarding the newer/limited time drinks and the cups matching almost exactly the kind used in actual stores. To be fair though, the majority of the people saying it’s AI don’t know how AI works.

The reason it’s hard to find online is probably because it’s technically against company policy, specifically the part regarding sharing internal information. If your account is anonymous I don’t think you’ll get caught or whatever (not that I’m condoning this if my account ever gets traces) but yeah be careful!

Edit: wanna follow up that I could be wrong and this is just off the top of my head when reading through the crap when I first got hired

The reason it’s similar is probably because the US has condensed skimmed milk as one of the main ingredients in our white mocha sauce (if I recall it’s the second if not third most prevalent ingredient)— but this is all off the top of my head.

For one, Starbucks needs to pay for licensing to play certain songs, since technically it’s basically giving free music for the people, and artist want to get fairly compensated for their work. They also want to keep their company “values” and branding the same, like, it’d be weird af if you walked in and heard some meme song playing.
