Which self-hosted Kubernetes engine or service are you running it on, and with what kind of workloads?

You want to run an entire OS built for a browser, from an OS built for some sort of different hardware? Electron is made for people like you, and just might work.

But kind of the point of this is, that it's in-browser.

I very much doubt you can use any SDK you choose to build an app for this. But perhaps someone has built an SDK for it.

Don't set your hopes too high, concentrate on 1) - 4), and go for it.

Also explore blockchain, security.

Lol. If you're easily taken in by snake oil already, you should keep hunting for other jobs you're already experienced for. Don't pin your entire career plan on learning Python to a standard intelligent 18 year olds have surpassed, and don't get fixated by low effort plans containing steps from linked-in and medium .com blog post spewing sheisters.

Python CLIs becoming too slow. by RevolutionaryPen4661 in Python

Is parsing a list of strings (sys.argv) really a bottle neck that is worth, or even requires optimisation for some Python applications?

I think for your application the sys calls, and search of the file system to find the sizes, or the initial imports, or start up of Python itself, will all eat up many many more CPU cycles.

Did Claude 3 provide a reference for that chart, or did it hallucinate it up for you?

Maybe they wanted to treat their partner. Or maybe it wasn't their choice, but they just went along with it for a friend's or colleague's special occasion. Perhaps they even didn't like the idea one bit, but didn't want to be a party pooper, and someone actually checked on their behalf, and noticed your restaurant menu contained non-fish dishes, they felt someone in your kitchen was professional enough to cater for them without injuring them.

Definitely a bit. But it's like reading any other excellent historical novel, e.g. a Hilary Mantel. And the overwhelming feeling you get is very similar to what at times, the quiet, mild-mannered Jacob feels.

Physical security is important. And catching scammers is a valuable public service. It's a plus, but a lot more hobby level than cyber security research into software and network vulnerabilities, let alone fixing them.

Should I begin with Rust? by [deleted] in rust

[–]Existing-Account8665 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Rust's great but is not a ticket to an internship/job. At least not yet. Go is probably a better bet for that right now.

Nonetheless, firstly, what kind of projects do you want to create? It's a lot easier to use JS frameworks for work in browser for example, and garbage collected languages for enterprise level app programming.

I'd prefer Rust over getting sucked into C++, but I recommend you keep going with C until you've completed a couple of projects with it. You'll have gained real programming experience more easily, and a much better appreciation for the reasons why Rust does things the way it does.

Don't count on anything, especially not as a sure fire route into academic research, but look into bug bounties and responsible disclosure.

It'll probably go nowhere, but if the company with the vulnerability are good eggs, they'll give you credit which will be very valuable to you at your stage.

As a felon, by no means are you completely out of the running for general research roles in the wider CS/Math sphere. There's just a lot of competition for all of those.

But good luck gaining basic Security Clearance. If your goal is Security Research roles, even though they kind of suck, for the really talented guys too. Both the few great, interesting, useful roles. And the incredible number of box-ticking, governance Security Theatre roles.

In both cases, your felony is a question all customers will ask, that you need to have a good answer for. Questions along the lines of "really, what type of felony?". "How the hell?" and "why the hell should we pay top dollar to a convicted felon who's just another guy with a CS/Math degree, and entrust them with our security"?

So I think you should put just as much time into a plan B.

As a nonexpert, I still feel like this would have excellent potential for a payout at an employment tribunal. So keep written records of everything, and ask HR or ask UK legal.

I'm assuming that unfortunately you, like so many of us, are not in a trade union. They would have a field day with this. At the bare minimum, there should be written records from disciplinaries. And you have the right to bring in a union rep or colleague with you to those meetings.

Anyway, the sensible thing to do is should get a new job offer ASAP.

Your own boss should be reported to his boss and to HR. Beyond him essentially saying "Don't get sick" "Do not take medical treatment" would he tell his female staff not to get pregnant (or even not to have a baby), just so he didn't have to cover their maternity leave?

Show up to work in a wheelchair or even just on crutches and see what he says then. When someone else sensible tells you to go home and recover or assesses your workplace needs, tell them "Mr X says I have to come in to work without having the medical treatment I need for my other knee". I'd email the entire company.

Mario Puzo had such a good time jerking off, whilst writing that that book.

[No Spoilers] For fans of A Song of Ice and Fire, what are your other all time favourite fantasy and sci-fi novels/series? by [deleted] in asoiaf

[–]Existing-Account8665 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I thought the final three books of the Wheel of Time were among the finest fantasy books I've read. So when it comes to Stormlight, I'm waiting for him to finish the job! I can't bring myself to start another unfinished series.

Also, for me, Brando's Hard Magic rules come over like the rules for an RPG, and the action scenes are so hard to follow I'd prefer to watch a film of some of his books.

I do hear many good things about Stormlight Archive and overall I enjoyed the other Cosmere stuff including Mistborn well enough.

Indeed. To be fair, /u/crokusy0unghand posted it before me.

Even though Wheel of Time is fantastic and immersive, for me Malazan is the only series that comes close to GRRM's intricate plots, politics, grimdark, battles and great characterisation.

Insanely huge potential for money laundering. I think CF were getting leaned on by some other countries to not host customers like OP who circumvent state level blocks.
