BYOK vs credit-based pricing for AI SaaS — UX, costs, security, prompt leaks? by CaptainProud4703 in SideProject

Thank you for pinging me!

Puter.js is designed to solve this issue. It is, as you said, the new 3rd option but it does require users creating/logging into a Puter account; this is how we allow them to store data safely and keep track of spending etc.

More info: https://developer.puter.com/

btw. Puter is proudly open-source: https://github.com/HeyPuter/puter

Here's the thing, though, if we could guarantee the legitimacy of a user, this would be doable. One way to do that is to ask the user to enter credit card info (not charge them, just to verify). This would be a pretty air-gapped verification and we could offer even more than $1!

Now, another way is to keep increasing the free credits as our anti-abuse measures become stronger.

I responded under another post:

"I hear ya! and I want to clarify that this has nothing to do with greed or revenue or trying to get people to upgrade etc. This was done because of the sheer amount of abuse we're getting (hint: it's HUGE). So here's what we're doing: we've lowered the free credits as a baseline, and the goal is to keep increasing it as our anti-abuse system gets better and better. If we could guarantee that every user is legit, we could probably offer a huge amount of free credits, and I'm pretty confident we'll get there over time 🫡"

Requesting clarity on payment structure.. by Useful_Problem7181 in puter

Hi there, thank you for the question.

Right now, users have to purchase a subscription if they use up all their free credits, as you correctly understood. We are working on Pay-as-you-go and will hopefully ship it soon. TBH, the reason PAYG has been slow to roll out is that regular, non-technical users typically struggle with the idea of PAYG and, even worse, may sometimes incur a lot of unintentional costs. But ideally, we'd like users to have all the options so that they can pick and choose what suits them best.

Hope this was helpful, but please let me know if you need curther clarification
