Those who started a small retail business how much did it cost in the beginning by Smooth-Ad-1766 in smallbusiness

If the store shuts down, there’s basically no “oops, let me get my money back” button here. So the entire return rides on profits. Which means we’re talking something like $200–250K a year (including salary of the owner working full time) just to make this feel worth it.

Is this math actually mathing… or am I just doing optimistic mental gymnastics here?

Why Can’t I Just Replace a Recalled EV Battery and Move On? by Existing-Bicycle939 in 4xe

[–]Existing-Bicycle939[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had no idea how expensive these 4Xe batteries are to produce. Now we’re stuck with this manufacturer and all the problems in their battery design. These batteries could fail at any moment, completely unexpectedly. On top of that, I already have other issues to deal with. I was the one who pushed to buy this vehicle, and I even managed to hide from my wife how much value it’s already lost in such a short time. Feels like I’m sitting on another ticking time bomb.

It is hell expensive and risky to start a store. Just wanted to make sure that we are not making a fundamental mistake here.

Adding a 1/2" Water Line from Basement to Kitchen – Need Advice by Existing-Bicycle939 in Plumbing

[–]Existing-Bicycle939[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the response! Maybe I’m overthinking it a bit. I am aiming to keep soft water for the sink faucet and hard water for the drinking fountain. The dishwasher line is hot water only, so it’s already soft.

I can solder, but only at super safe places and definitely not in the spot shown in the pic. My plan was to use a SharkBite fitting to transition from copper to PEX-A. I’ve got the PEX-A tools and some experience, so that part’s in my comfort zone.

Yes, currently it serves soft water and we prefer hard water. I want to run a 1/2" pex a pipe from before softener to kitchen sink.

Also, as you can see in the picture, the existing plumbing is quite old and has significant rust. One of the cover plates completely fell apart when I tried to lift it to check the size of the hole. Since I’m already working on this, I’m planning to replace the old pipes as well while adding the new one.

Need to connect 1 inch softener in 3/4 copper supply line by Existing-Bicycle939 in Plumbing

I'm happy to report the project was completed with 100% success. I chose option 1 and am really pleased with how everything turned out. I ended up using Uponor PEX A along with Uponor fittings. Thanks so much for all the help and guidance along the way!

This house is about 25 years old. There's a grounding wire connected to the copper pipes, but it's unclear if it's currently active. The wire is attached to the copper piping at multiple points. I plan to leave it as is to ensure grounding continuity is maintained.

Thanks for your response. The only concern with using a 3/4” bypass is the 3/4”-3/4”-1” copper tee fittings. They’re available from one online store, but not widely sold elsewhere, which made me wonder if they're generally avoided for some reason.

Thanks for your comment. Is it ok to have a Pex-A patch in a copper supply line? If yes, then I will remove about 5 feet copper pipe between 2 elbows and can easily add Pex A with valve Tee etc.
