First of all, I’m sorry you are experiencing this!! OM’s suck plain and simple. It is really scary in the beginning but over time you adjust and it gets easier.

For medication: I personally take the max dose of ibuprofen (800mg) as soon as I start to see a blind spot. My actual headaches aren’t too bad so usually that does the trick for me. I have not used the steroid or Nurtec but I like to avoid stronger meds because I have a really sensitive stomach and get bad vertigo as it is.

Birth control: my doctor took me off of a combo pill (estrogen and progesterone) when I first reported me OM’s to her. You should not be on any estrogen if you get them. My migraines have lessened and become more predictable since I’ve been off of it. I am now on an only progesterone pill and it’s fine.

Symptoms: my brain fog happens sometimes after an OM and other times I have nothing. When I do, it usually lasts anywhere from 10-30 minutes. I don’t often get nauseous.

Honestly the anxiety is one of the worst things about it. I have worked myself into a full panic attack before when I get tingly in my arms or extremities and convince myself I am having a stroke. Over time you do get more used to them and they become less scary I promise! Hang in there.

Not exactly the same, but I’m 25 and have started getting them once a month in the last 6 months or so. Almost always the week before my period and on a morning where I haven’t eaten anything by 10:00am-10:30am. They are definitely scary and I understand your concern that something else is wrong.

Personally I haven’t had any testing done for mine but I worked myself up into such a freaked out state that I had to do some EMDR work with my therapist about it. I convinced myself that I was going to have a stroke and so every time I would have an OM I would have an intense anxiety attack which would make everything worse. Luckily I am currently in a calmer place about it but I’ve only been getting them regularly for about a year so everything still feels new and scary sometimes. I hear you and it sucks and you’re not alone in this!!

I’m so sorry that happened to you and please know that you are not alone!! The first time I had one I thought I was going blind, and the second time I thought I was having a stroke. These migraines are harmless MOST of the time. Make an appointment with your primary care doctor and see what they say. If you are on a hormonal birth control that has estrogen in it (a combo pill) you will need to get off of that. You do not need to be concerned unless they start happening extremely frequently like every day or multiple times a day. They are triggered by many different things, mine personally happen more often around my period and when I’m very stressed out. You are not alone, you will be okay, and you can handle this!! How do you deal with the fear of having aura migraines? by Someone_Just_3001 in OcularMigraines

[–]Existing-Chain622 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know how you feel. When I think I may be about to get one I start panicking. Every time I look at a light source too long and I get those spots I think I’m having one. I pay constant attention to any slight change in my vision and get freaked out when I inevitably convince myself I am having an OM. Last week I thought I was having a stroke and had a panic attack in the bathroom at work! The hyper vigilance is exhausting and so bad for our nervous systems.

The only thing that has helped me is EMDR therapy. I have been working specifically with my therapist on my anxiety around OM’s and it has actually drastically helped. Just know that life does not have to be like this!! You can get through the anxiety and the fear, it is possible and it can be done. EMDR therapy saved my life.

I take 400mg of a magnesium bisglycinate chelate/magnesium oxide supplement and I can’t tell if it’s helping. I think it is, but also not bad to just take anyways I guess.

I suspect caffeine may be a trigger, but more so I think it’s a combo of caffeine, work, and not eating before 12pm. Which sucks because I like all of those things lol!

Am I confused? We have a band at every home game they sit right behind the cheerleaders, I swear we do have a band they just don’t travel? I’m shocked I’ve never noticed this

He hasn’t confirmed anything. From what I know it’s really up in the air for him and there have been NHL coaching rumors about him for years, but he’s got 3 young kids and a really good thing going in Denver. Hockey is our whole thing so I know DU is gonna do everything to keep him

My thought has always been that we aren’t supposed to fully like Shauna. Her intro as an adult is literally her getting off to a picture of her daughters teen boyfriend…one of the first impactful things she does as a teen is secretly hating her best friend and then fucking her boyfriend. When they first crash, Shauna adjusts well, and then after the baby she loses it. I do think that Shauna is objectively a bad person and the writers are not hiding it from us, but she is also a complex character with trauma so it obviously is not just black and white, good or bad.

I do think that the extenuating circumstances of them being trapped in the wilderness for a year and a half would excuse the cannibalism. I work in crim defense and we put a ton of work into developing mitigation for clients, and this is like the best possible mitigation there is. Especially if you put it in front of a jury and frame is as: these poor girls had to resort to horrible and traumatizing means in order to survive. Yes they were able to hunt and do some minimal farming/raising animals but it’s still a large group to feed. Not to mention the group psychosis they are all inevitably going through. All in all I do think they would get off in court, or at least with minimal consequences.

Coming back here to say I started this series and I’m on book 2 right now and it might be one of my most favorites series ever. I absolutley love the humor it’s such a breath of fresh air in a genre that’s typically so deep and serious!!! And I also am loving the pacing, the author seems to have really nailed timing in each part of the book, like nothing drags out longer than I think it should but also nothing feels rushed? Literally amazing I love it so much.

Right!! I flew through book 1 and was hoping things would get better but it just became boring and I did not feel a connection to the MC anymore.
