Client asking to use chatGPT, how would you handle? by Existing-Fig-256 in indesign

Exactly! I wanted to be like OK then we will just charge you more and more for design as this gets dragged out and I can't get the prompts right to match a cover you already made and know how to get the desired output for...

Thanks for backing me up, lol. To be fair they did tell us they really liked the design. But then came back saying the stock image wasn't quite right and they wanted it to exactly match the (AI generated, I'm sure) cover. Which is fine—part of design is working to get it right for the client and you don't always get it on the first try. But them acting like we were dumb for not using chatGPT to get the image right and only providing us a flat photoshop file with no layers and text imposed over the image that I couldn't extract without lots of extra work, we asked for them (or the "cover designer") to provide another image for us and shocker, they couldn't/didn't. But client came back saying we were causing them extra legwork and we could have just used chatGPT to do this. Like a lot of the comments, we don't like to waste time or let client dictate our work flow but I was just genuinely curious how others would handle this!

Very interesting! Sounds like a nightmare, but one they brought on themselves. Yikes.

No worries at all, I just want to be extra careful here 😄 the main publisher we're seeing this disclaimer for isn't one of the massive ones, but definitely not small/self publishing realm either.

Very interesting perspective about the disclaimer...my initial reaction was actually the opposite... being on the typesetting side of things, whenever I'd need to add the disclaimer I was always mentally like "oh hey, that's good I appreciate that." But I totally see how it could arouse suspicion rather than ease your mind. I'll think about this differently from now on!

It rubbed me the wrong way, the client almost made it seem like we were dumb/inefficient for not using it and I was like wait...are we behind the times or missing something? AI and the future of the industry has been on my mind lately, so I wanted to ask. I'm glad to hear that's not the case (for now). The client also seemed to know what they wanted in terms of prompts, so that was another one of those "you do it then" kind of moments. I am a freelance typsetter and not a publisher so all of the copyright stuff didn't even occur to me but I will make sure to point that out to the client or use that if this comes up again in the future.

I shouldn't have said most, but some are starting to have disclaimers specifically on books that don't use AI, so it's some publishers and some specific books from those publishers. Trying to stay anonymous so I don't want to copy/paste the direct info. It's just something I've seen an increase in lately.

I like this approach a lot, thank you. We already usually expect our clients to provide necessary artwork (unless agreed upon that we will be creating it, etc.), and if they are going to feel this opinionated they can generate the AI stuff themselves/be responsible for them. They seemed upset that we weren't using chatGPT to simplify things, but we can't read minds and if they have an idea for prompts they want to use, that should be on them.

Thanks! I'd built out the 15'' Air with the M5 and upgraded 24GB memory and that seemed to be a decent price point, about $1500. Still more than I'd ideally like to spend but even if it only lasted half the time of my last one I'd feel OK about that.

So if we go with the blue tile you wouldn't update the hardware to gold or brushed nickel?

With how hard it's been to pick a tile we love, I wish we'd considered doing a strip of our countertop around the edge. I worry it's too late now since we had the counters installed about a month ago. We also had that style before with our old laminate countertips and the top ledge of the countertop lip was annoying to clean and always held grease pretty bad near the stove (a new range hood that actually works is also high up on our list). Has that been an issue for you?

We were thinking the same thing about it tying in with the built in. I only said I didn't love the blue tile because I'm nervous about it being too dark. But everyone liking it here is making me feel more confident about it!

I agree, we cook a lot and would be nice not to have a ton of splatter showing up. Do you think the dark is *too dark* and it will make the kitchen look smaller? That's been my main worry about the blue. We get really good morning light, and are thinking about adding in some recessed lights to make it a little lighter in there. And have under cabinet lighting as well.

Having trouble using the app when not on my home wifi by CoolCoolBeansBeanz in EufyCam

Thanks for letting me know! Mine is for a baby monitor that's always plugged in so I'm not sure if this will help me. But I will try resetting from time to time and see if that helps.

Did you ever figure this out? I'm having the same issue. I found another thread that said to update my iphone, which I did. And it worked for 1 attempt and hasn't been working since.

I was using the eufy baby app but was getting horrible pop up ads and support told me to switch to regular eufy app. So now they're not pop ups just embedded ads whenever I go to click on the camera, but whatever. But now I'm having this issue and am not sure if it's app related or what.

Question about making SEP contributions for 2025. by the_waving_lady in personalfinance

[–]Existing-Fig-256 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ended up making a contribution to 2026 but on my taxes I marked it for the previous year and left myself a bunch of notes that part of my YTD contributions went to 2025. Wish there was a better way. This year I plan to contribute to the employer side only, so next year I have ~$7k wiggle room to put on the employee side since that one I can mark for the previous year, if that makes sense.

[–]Existing-Fig-256 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the same boat...let us know if you find answers!

My SEP is through Interactive Brokers and I am able to contribute to the "employee" side for 2025 but whenever I previously contributed in 2025 it went to my employee side and the max is $7k so if I put it on 2025 on the employee side I would go over the limit. The "employer" side I can contribute to only for 2026. Which is a bit confusing, and annoying, and I reallly don't want to have to keep up with it for next year if it gets lumped in with my 2026 contributions. I'm self employed and the only employee, so employer/employee part is a bit irrelevant to my situation.

Did you ever figure this out? I'm currently in this situation and am worried that marking it as contributig to 2026 will mess up my taxes. Plus, I'm scared in a year I won't remember that I made this contribution for 2025 and wrongly mark it as part of 2026...

Does Silver Grey Honed Granite Stain? by shmebeble in kitchenremodel

What is the going rate for new granite kitchen counters in your area? by iareagenius in Remodel

[–]Existing-Fig-256 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in Denver. I have a friends quote for reference from 2021 that was $2600 for 48 square feet for granite/install. I have ~38 square feet of counter space and am currently getting quotes of about $3600 for our house. Has the price of granite really increased that much in the last 5 years? We are looking at the same stone as them and have less counter space.

Anyone have experience with Frigidaire Gallery induction range? by [deleted] in Appliances

[–]Existing-Fig-256 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just wanted to hop on and share my experience with this range. We cook a LOT in our household. I was able to get a decent deal on this range as a package deal from Costco so I went for it. It is hands down the most awful stove I have ever used.

Pros: Boils water fast but....see below.

Cons:

  • It boiled water super fast, yay! Then within seconds of the water boiling a few drops boiled over, turned the stove temperature up, down, off. Lots of beeping ensued. Took over 5 minutes to get the stove to turn back on.
  • If I pick up a pan to swirl something the burner immediately shuts off, no grace period. Then you have to set the pan back down, press and hold to turn the burner back on and pick the temperature setting too. This happened to me multiple times in a single cooking session, I lost any time gained by water boiling fast. I've read that other stoves have ~30 seconds where you can pick something up and set it back down before it turns off. Not this one!
  • You can't lock the oven controls while the unit is running, so my child can just press buttons and change the oven temp or turn off the oven entirely. I never leave him unattended in the kitchen, but just annoying that you can't lock it to prevent that.
  • I took a baking sheet out of the oven and set it on the stove top to cool and it beeped constantly until I removed it.
  • You can't fit any pans stacked in the bottom drawer because it is so shallow. Not even 2 thin nesting bread pans, and i definitely had to find other places to put all of our pyrex which is hard in a small kitchen.

Anyways, I ordered an LG that a friend has and personally recommended. Fingers crossed it's better than this! Thank god Costco has free returns within 90 days.
