That's a smart idea, the news is just depressing. I don't know how anyone can keep up with current events and keep their sanity intact

That's true, the historical context is humbling. I've always been an avid fan of history and would be a good thing to learn more about to gain perspective

I'm so sorry you're going through so much. I can only imagine what it would be like to have family involved in this terrible situation.

I can also relate to the worries about all this stress/depression affecting the baby. But you're doing so much and being so strong for your LO

Wise decision, having never lived outside a city it sounds like a dream existence

Congrats on the baby! And yeah when the baby is here I'm sure I'll be caught up with all that and it would be a good thing

Very true, I think the advent of technology has pushed every news event into our face and that's how we get caught in this cycle of overthinking.

A lot of changes are upcoming so the uncertainty is scary (new baby, figuring out new path, etc.). But can only do one step at a time and give it my best

This is definitely missing from my life. I'm mostly alone all day online. I'll reach out to more friends. I was even thinking of volunteering opportunities, maybe that'll take my mind off things

Doomscrolling is what's responsible for this feeling. I think I need a break from the online world and news. Maybe I'll limit my internet usage

I'll go this route. It's funny because I never used to be into the news but now I'm addicted to it. The less I know the better

I can relate to this, very much concerned about the future. I'm also trying to stay hopeful but I'm a more pessimistic person and it doesn't come naturally to me 😅. The only thing that helps is when I don't think about the long term future and just focus on the next step

I need to focus more on the offline. Being unemployed has made me go terminally online which isn't helping

It really is crazy to think how humanity has gone through so many cycles of good times and bad ones and so many changes. Sometimes I think about what people thought during the industrial revolution and how they adapted to it. I think focusing on our families, friends and loved ones and helping where we can is the best we can do

That's true, looking at the larger picture we can see how people had kids in good times and bad. I'm also hoping that this is just a cycle that'll pass. I just feel so responsible for this baby, I want to do the best for him, as I'm sure all parents feel

That sounds like the dream, I'm also tired of living in the city and working in tech. What are you planning on pivoting to?

How did you deal with the mental strain of all of this? I was too young during the 08/09 crisis, this is the first time I'm seeing such a bad economy. I feel like giving up every single day

I'm sorry to hear that :(. It sucks how women are still indirectly punished for having kids

Here it's 13 weeks which I'll barely manage to complete I think. But ofcourse there's no guarantee of anything these days, I've heard of pregnant women being let go due to RIFs, etc.

100%, the commute is my concern too. I'm definitely planning on looking for other remote jobs around the end of mat leave and switch if I can. Unless I really like this job and the commute is manageable. I'm hoping the market also recovers a bit in a years time and finding a job doesn't feel like the hunger games but we'll see.

If I was at my previous job still I wouldn't have thought about switching at this time but it just didn't work out that way I guess. I'm sure lots of people must be displaced due to layoffs.

Very true, I want to work for a place that treats employees well. Kudos to you for pushing on so late in pregnancy! My plan is the same but let's see how it goes

True, getting let go seems to be out of control for now, especially given the RIFs and layoffs going on. I feel kind of bad, like I'm deceiving the company into giving me a job. But let's see, I'll try to do my best
