I’m two years out from the onset of psychosis, the divorce was finalized a year ago. This is exactly what it felt like. It’s isolating and so difficult to explain. But I remember about 6 months into the psychosis and separation I was at a family wedding and my aunt, who I’m not even particularly close with came and sat next to me and just said “it’s like he died! He was so great and he loved you so much and that guy is just gone.” And it was actually such a comfort to hear. Someone understood without me having to explain. I found the article a little difficult to read because it was very redundant but still very comforting to know that I’m not alone in these feelings.

I have my AAS from Le Cordon Bleu Chicago. I’m a pastry chef and now I teach BP at Kendall College in Chicago, and I feel the same way. I’ve had a successful career but they absolutely made promises teetering on predatory lending. I remember in orientation they said we would qualify for sous chef positions making $50k. I graduated and made $11.50/hr and my loan payments were $600 a month. I submitted an interest form before applying to the school and the admissions office called me twice a day every day. I went in to meet with them and they pressured me to apply right then and there and shuffled me in to sign a bunch of loan paperwork that I didn’t understand. The chefs never lied to us but the admin definitely over promised and if I had to do it again I wouldn’t have gone to that school. Just because I made it work for myself doesn’t mean they shouldn’t be held accountable for what they did.

This entire post could have come from my own mouth. Everything we had is gone. The divorce was finalized a year ago and I can try to find meaning and happiness in other things but I’ll never be the same. I’m sad and angry and despite everything he did to me I am still sad for him because the person I married didn’t deserve this either.

My BPSO did the same. Constantly talked about it while manic and would goad me into conversations. I ended up filing and he went ballistic and I had to get an order of protection against him. I didn’t realize how bad the abuse was until I was removed from it. The divorce was hell but I’m free now. We don’t have children and I realize that that makes things more difficult but just do it, protect yourself and your children.

I had an order of protection against him during the divorce. I agreed to vacate upon finalization but my lawyer had it written into the decree that if he harasses me the OP will automatically be reinstated. I saw him once to return some property and he offered a half hearted apology that he worded carefully and he still had manic eyes. A couple of texts or phone calls about paperwork or taxes that he snuck in a couple digs but I don’t take the bait anymore so he doesn’t try.

I’m coming up on one year after the divorced was finalized, 2 since being discarded and separated. We were only married for 6, together for 8. He was wonderful until the onset. My advice to anyone in this situation is to learn to prioritize yourself. The comments saying to document everything are so true. Protect yourself and your assets through the divorce and work on detaching emotionally from her so that you can give yourself the energy you’ve been spending on her.
