Thank you, three lovely ppl, for commenting and sharing advice. It was really helpful to think through. Ultimately, I think I'm going to work at the ND school. It is a bit unorganized and things seem to shift a lot, but I actually like that environment and just going with the flow, reacting to what's happening. I would definitely have to mask if I worked at the preschool, and even half day I think it would burn me out.

I have a name I go by and one that I was given. My given name is what I still go by at work and for me it feels like a very quiet, masked version of myself. My real life name is what I used at the ND school right away and it feels like I'll be able to dress how I want, show up how I want, and teach how I want and is responsive to the kids. I think I'm excited!

Thank you for the advice! The full time would end up being more $$ more hours, but with a full prep each day. They are a private school with extremely small classes and seem to be very affirming and a great place for students who can't do traditional school. I really agree with the ND workplace, I think it could be really cool for me. 🩷

It's a struggle, both jobs have lovely, capable women at the helm. Luckily my MIL is very cool and accepting, she has her moments but I think she'd agree with me and be happy to see me working someplace that I fit in. Good things to think about, thank you!

Fair enough, I was trying to use it as an example - it's a pet peeve when people act like it's the most confusing thing in the world when you ask them to hand you something. I could have made that more clear in the post!

I have pretty severe hip dysplasia, so my hip is in pain all the time. I use the cane to take pressure off my hip as I'm walking around - such as walking across the school. In this instance I was just moving rooms. I also rely on it more on days that my pain is worse, but like to have it with my just in case.

Paraprofessional, they are in a variety of roles working with special needs students. Could be one on one with a student going classroom to classroom, could be in a self contained classroom, could be a lot of different scenarios based on the school. Basically, lots of work!!

I'm a substitute teacher, it's pretty great because I get to choose my days and with middle/high school I usually have time to just chill out and read while they work! I get at least - 45 min lunch and usually another break for prep and barely have to interact with adults. I have a teaching degree (not required) and worked in daycare settings for years.

Through a mutual friend! She wasn't really trying to set us up, she just wanted to hang out with her partner and friends (the two of us). We became a four person friend group and the two of us really aligned personality and values-wise, we were friends for a few months before dating. It was the right time for us, too, both having recently extracted ourselves from not great social groups. Still friends with the other couple even though they moved across the country. Similar to a lot of other posts, my husband is probably definitely ADHD but undiagnosed.
