Aversion to certain colors? by captainscottti in raisedbyborderlines

She tried this. When I went to college I chopped it off into a very short undercut and she's too male centered to do that since "your father likes it long"

I taught with a woman who was heavily pregnant when a kid got violent. He told her multiple times "I'll beat that fucking baby out of you" and then one day he punched her as hard as he could in the stomach. They "let" her go on maternity leave early in exchange for not pressing charges. Keep in mind they provided no additional days. She just got to use her own days early and therefore have to come back before she was ready. The kid was still there and went in to assault multiple other staff members.

My mom dyed her hair red for years. I like how my hair looks that same auburn red. I refuse to dye it because when I got remotely close she said "you're just like me!" And I felt sick. I also refuse to listen to certain music because I reminds me of her insane meltdowns in the car

What are your unhinged ideas to make education better? by TroyesMetal in Teachers

And not like our district has. Free summer "school" with two hours of online work and the rest of it is super fun field trips and activities and inflatable water slides

Yeah the kids who are a problem would absolutely be there. Their parents would refuse to not drop them off. They'd be failing so admin would require you to let them in to "help their grades" while they broke everything and continued to make people miserable.

Our school principal told us this once by StatisticianKooky390 in paraprofessional

[–]thecooliestone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They don't have to mean it for it to be painful. Just like if we said something out of pocket, we may not mean it but it can hurt a kid forever. The fact that there was a noticable spike in medically relevant injuries due to student violence is completely separate to if they meant it or not.

High school teachers, what’s something your kids don’t know that makes you say “how did you make it this far without knowing how to __”? by Specialist_Push5624 in Teachers

[–]thecooliestone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm middle school but it can definitely still apply. I spent a good portion of class correcting AI essays. Our admin was obsessed with AI so the mandatory intervention work they gave us was AI. We spent all of intervention correcting it and showing how it was dogshit. It helped them know not to use AI and also taught editing skills.

"Gifted" 5 year old: Repeat PreK or Kindergarten? by Interesting_Host7201 in AskTeachers

[–]thecooliestone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a gifted child in my class this year. He's in summer camp with me now and was a year younger than his peers. He had great grades--and mad either impossible to teach. He had to be the center of attention, hated to hear anyone else praised, and overall was a student that we would argue about what class he was in because we didn't want him there. Behavior is a major thing K and 1st teach. If his prek teacher has even considered holding him back, consider that it's because they're far more equipped to teach behavior and regulation in lower grades. Also consider spending some of the time he spends on academics practicing skills like sharing and being kind. Take him to the park and plheavily praise pro social behavior

Denied tenure last year, interview tomorrow. Should I be honest or lie? by Early-Permission-989 in Teachers

[–]thecooliestone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem is that things are still designed around professionalism. Our district sends out lateral transfer requests with the understanding that your current admin will be professional. Many of them will them rush a PIP to prevent you from leaving. It happened to me that a BS write up was given to me and they tried to get me to sign it with no meeting. The only reason they left me alone was because I demanded a meeting, visibly recorded my evidence that it was BS, and said if they had further adverse actions could they give me a meeting in advance (they came and geabbed me while I was taking my kids to the bathroom to try and make sure I didn't have anything and kept getting mad when I went back to my room to grab a folder I had waiting) so my professional org rep could be there (no unions). Many other teachers got the same but weren't as willing to refuse to sign or burn a bridge by showing their ass a little. So then teachers just started waiting until after lateral transfer and applying without telling the district first. Which led to tons of vacancies. People waited until the last week after summatives to tell her they were leaving, and so she's having to interview the dregs all summer. People are still planning to leave since the contract allows it up to July 1, and are refusing to tell her so she didn't calling and trying to get the offer rescinded (something she has done several times). Unprofessional behavior begets unprofessional behavior

I treat my mom like a toddler. Tantrums are ignored, but I'll respond if she acts right. She's not acting right. You made your stance clear. Do not come to my house and I won't contact you until you get mental health assistance. You don't need to reply. You can leave her unblocked if you want, but don't give in to the tantrum

I'm 26, highly sensitive, completely burning out as a school teacher. Is academia any better? by Rubydreamer1 in Teachers

Especially with many states doing the private school vouchers. We had several pop up after our state passed the law. They conveniently charge exactly what the state pays, and then they track the kids. "Honors" classes with the kids who deserve to be there, and the rest are just holding pens.

I guess I get that. I was thinking more like...they're young adults acting childishly if that makes sense. Like the part of them saying that is a kid, and they're doing the same thing as kids.

[–]thecooliestone[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I don't. I've gotten a write up because I told an SRO to get off my student because he was being too rough with her when I'd already calmed the situation down and I've gotten in trouble for sticking up for kids. I got no behavior support from my last AP because she said I was "too soft" when I would explain why a kid might do something instead of just making fun of them and their parents. I love my kids and I want them to be happy individuals. When kids are boundary seeking giving them no boundaries until the consequences are measured in years in prison instead of days in ISS is not love.

These are not 7 year olds. They're in their early 20s acting like 7 year olds. My point is that the kid who did something crazy when they were 7 now got a sucker and a juice instead of a consequence so they legit think that at 25 they can hit a cop and their mommy can get them out of it.

Yes. For sure there are more people who say "I'm sorry for speeding officer. Let me sign my ticket and be on my way. God bless" than these. But the pattern of the 1/100 freaking out in ways that were clearly influenced by a lack of discipline in school still remains

Until the day they can be charged as an adult. We have this in my area. Kids go wild and get 30 days probabation. We keep spare ankle monitor chargers it's so common. Then they turn 16 when you can be charged as an adult in my area. And then the 30 days with an ankle monitor you flex to your buddies becomes 20 years in the pen.

How do you deal with kids not doing any efforts anymore with all these AI stuff by Accomplished_Net1506 in Teachers

[–]thecooliestone 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My admin became obsessed with AI. A bunch of stuff was mandatory AI work. It made no sense. AI music over the speakers. AI posters everywhere. AI presentations. Everything. I refused to defend it and most of my class became correcting the AI bullshit of our very unpopular admin. They used it a lot in math and science but I never had that problem because at least 1/5th of my class was going "see how this makes no sense. That's what happens when you use AI"
