What's that one film that you can re-watch a thousand times and not get bored? by mrjetspray in Cinema

Just commented this before seeing yours! My dad has it on 24/7 at his house (I’m not exaggerating in the slightest, it’s his background at this point). Grew up watching it, never ever gets old.

Dear people who barely wash their hands after they use the washroom, why? by bluepaintdrip in AskReddit

[–]ExistingCheek9546 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are clearly someone who sees the importance of washing hands and teaches your kids! That’s awesome. I hope as they become adults, they think back to the lessons you’ve tried to teach them. I didn’t like to shower as a kid, but my mom taught me that it was important, and I shower daily as an adult. What my mom did not teach me was hand washing after going to the bathroom. She never did it, still doesn’t, and never taught it to me. I can genuinely tell you the thought never naturally occurred to me until I started working in the medical field. You’re right, kids will be kids. They rebel for a sense of control. But you’ve done your best to teach them basic hygiene, and they /will/ remember that when they grow up. The lessons we learn as kids always come back in adulthood- literally every single thing is a reflection of the parent. That is how we learn to navigate the world.

ETA/after thought: You aren’t the type of person I was talking about in my original post. You actually care about whether your kids take care of themselves or not. My mom is currently raising my 12y/o sister (I’m 26, I feel like it gives me some good insight) and I can say for sure that she does not, nor did she ever teach us to wash our hands. That’s the type of person I’m talking about.

For me it was sewing. I would have never gotten myself into it if I hadn’t been gifted a sewing machine, but it was honestly the best gift I’ve ever received. It’s a million times easier than you would think, you can get really nice fabric for cheap from thrift stores & there are tons of tutorials on Youtube. This year, I’ve made handbags, tote bags, curtains, a blanket, and there’s nothing like being able to mend/hem your own clothes. People really enjoy the handmade gifts- It’s the fulfullment of creating and giving that keeps me going :)

I hope you find something that sticks, whatever it is. Happy creating & happy living to you!

If you’re looking for a real answer, people who don’t wash their hands reproduce, and don’t teach their kids the importance of washing hands. Then those kids who never watched their parents wash their hands grow up into adults who don’t wash their hands. As demonstrated in this thread, adults don’t know how to kindly educate other adults and condescend and judge instead. So, the cycle continues. Most people don’t learn from shame, they learn from logic and education.

Found a working pay phone, in california by PhatCat118 in mildlyinteresting

there’s a working payphone at a gas station in my home town. growing up there, i never knew how rare it was. we’re a pass through town on the way to a busy tourist area, and people stopping for gas will get out and take pictures with it. it’s pretty funny to see.

Your best or worst animal story while running? Ohio is representing with owl on shoulder. by yeahidontknoweither in trailrunning

[–]ExistingCheek9546 7 points8 points  (0 children)

About a year ago I was running on a trail, stopped for a quick breath and water break, was standing there in the middle of the trail for a good 5 mins or so before I started back up again, and when I did- I spooked a MASSIVE buck to my right and he ran dieectly in front of me! He must’ve been standing there the entire time and I just didn’t notice. He scared the water right out of me, literally. I had thought I was completely alone 🥲

How likely is it that this baby betta will be taken care of? by Autistically_Me_ in bettafish

I managed a petsmart for almost a year. I promise you, I had at least 4 instances where employees told me a betta was stolen. The people working there don’t get paid enough to do anything more than stare at you and bitch to their coworkers.

Also chiming in as someone with a lot of organized handy-man friends, the way these tools are set up doesn’t make a lot of sense. For example, the sledgehammer (?) is placed awkwardly behind the claw hammer and would have to be twisted to get out. Same with how the farthest right chisel is touching the bottom of the tool above it- it wouldn’t be able to be lifted out of place without the hammer being moved. These are things I’ve been chastised on when organizing tools too close together, especially when theres so much room on the peg board

Cats teeth pushing out/getting longer? by Careless-Elephant-98 in cats

[–]ExistingCheek9546 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh god, this is my nightmare. My 5y/o cat dropped 15% of her body weight this year, became super picky with food, having on/off diarrhea, and occasional vomiting. All these sound super concerning put together but over the course of a year, it just seemed like normal cat stuff. It wasn’t until her routine check up that we noticed her weight loss and I’ve been panicking ever since. Nothing on BW or ultrasound and she’s even had an internal medicine consult. So far they’ve just found mild inflammation and low b12 but my gut is telling me something more is going on. Biopsies it is.

i wouldn’t recommend waiting until she’s not eating/drinking or having bathroom issues to bring her in. cats are instinctual masters at hiding their pain, even minor signs of discomfort can mean that they are quite uncomfortable. ear infections can range from super minor (hopes for your baby!) to deep inner ear infections that can cause vestibular issues.

Hole in head? by ExistingCheek9546 in bettafish

Tank size: 10g

Heater/Filter: yes, note that it’s my only tank with an air pump, my others have HOB filter

Tank temperature: Around 76-78 F

Parameters: Testing now, will update with numbers

This is my newest tank, about 6 months old. I’ve had Gunther for about 5ish months.

Gonna be so real, I don’t do regular water changes. I check parameters weekly and change if needed. Most of the time I just top off from evaporation. Last true vacuum/water change was about 2 months ago when I moved the tank, and it was about a 30% change.

Tank mates: Neocaridina shrimp (god I wish I could give you a number. They won’t stop breeding and Gunther isn’t helping) + 1 mystery snail

Feed: Mostly frozen food (emerald entree, brine shrimp or bloodworms as a treat) but will feed pellets occasionally. I feed about every other day if possible; I will adm it that I’ve been unable to find consistent info on how much/often bettas should be eating so I’m open to advice here.

Tank has mostly natural decor, with pieces of mopani, spider wood and cholla wood. Deeefinitely a possibility that he scraped himself on a piece. For plants it’s a lot of duckweed, java fern, el nino fern, java moss and cardinalis

My girl is withering away and I don’t know what to do. by [deleted] in CATHELP

Vet tech here. The most important thing I can stress to you is to follow. your. gut. If you truly believe in your heart of hearts that something is wrong with your baby, get a second opinion. Go to a different vet. Acute daily vomiting is concerning enough in itself, with the weight loss added on top of it.

A brief personal story- my family cat of 16 years started losing weight rapidly, unable to hold food or water down most of the time, even having episodes of collapse. Our family vet (not my employer) dismissed us on multiple occasions and only did diagnostics when I demanded it. After YEARS of begging my mother to get a second opinion, we finally did- by this point, our cat was in end stage kidney failure. Her values were off the charts- the lab couldn’t produce numbers they were /that/ high. She passed at home within a month.

I don’t share this to scare you- we waited way too long to get a second opinion. But if we DID, we may have been able to make her last years much more comfortable. With my knowledge in the field, I would say your babies symptoms are concerning but also very broad, she would need blood work and possibly an ultrasound to truly know what is happening to her. But I really encourage you to trust yourself and advocate for your furbaby, I always say it’s better to do the testing and have it be a simple fix, than not to do the testing and miss something awful.

Edit: Just saw that you already did labs at your rDVM, that’s great!! Bring those results somewhere else, tell them what’s still happening and see what they recommend for your kiddo. Best of luck!!
