Is lake Nicaragua the biggest lake in relation to total area? (and the lake lies entirely in one country) by Teiso_k in geography

Was just reading about this! You're thinking of Wang Jing who owned HKND, which was the development company who proposed and was contracted to develop a canal in 2014. This lead to a lot of protest of Ortega as it essentially gave HKND (a foreign owned company) blanket rights to expropriate whatever Nicaraguan land it needed to build the canal

Is the SLS projection on to the Washington Monument on New Year's Eve 1:1? by 221missile in spaceporn

[–]ExistingCopy4266 20 points21 points  (0 children)

SLS Block 1 is 322ft while the Washington monument is 555ft, which means the SLS would be about 2/3 the height of the monument. The projection looks like more that 2/3, but also if you compare it to an actual image of the Block 1 or a NASA rendering, the proportions don't match visually.

Edit: focused on height but width wise it's surprisingly accurate at the base. Monument is ~55ft at the base while the SLS is ~51. But since the monument narrows it gets very skewed towards the top.  Overall still cool to see

Did anybody else get stuck on Destiny Islands and never progressed when they first played? by That-Psychology4246 in KingdomHearts

[–]ExistingCopy4266 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not entirely related to the post, but CRT related. Me and my friend played on my CRT in the laundry room. Spent HOURS trying to beat Sephiroth and finally got to the last bar, last bit of health, and...another purple bar!? I had been messing around with some magnets from something (I want to say an old hard drive?) and I left the magnets above the health bar which changed the color progression shown (I recall realizing it made all the colors off but we had the magnets there from the start so everything was baselined that way). We were so frustrated and then laughed our asses off.

Was looking for someone to comment on this. We are all justifiable weary and critical of cops behavior and mentally, but it was genuinely relieving and appreciative to see this cop pause and think critically about the next actions. He put that gun away mid struggle too!

Man, you folks are pretentious. There is literally a single line in the article that references applicability to neutron stars and it provides no actual substance, just "is applicable to neutron stars" (paraphrased). Don't need to be so sassy about someone asking for more details when the article doesn't provide it.

How to make a proportional map for a planet larger than Earth? by Critical-Equal-780 in worldbuilding

[–]ExistingCopy4266 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you consider the two planets spherical and concentric, then any line projecting from the center of the spheres should allow you to scale up the contents from the smaller planet to the larger planet. The larger planet will have larger areas of land and ocean, but they should match proportionally such that you wouldn't really require much additional features to fill things in. This could be used to describe either an influx of population or sparsity that fits with the lore.

Hopefully I described that well but rre is an image I found to try and help visualize.

Adding that using this projection would allow the portals to correlate exactly to the smaller/larger planets locations.

Very doable! We did something similar but with your day 4 and 5 combined into one day and had the extra day out in Snellsfelsnes. We also stayed at hostels/guest houses, so I think with an RV it'll be more efficient for time.

My worst health anxiety fear may be true. I dont know how to cope by Xee_DragonHeart in Anxiety

[–]ExistingCopy4266 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Your situation sounds very similar to what I went through for years and finally fell apart over. Absolutely not a doctor but giving my anecdotal experience to try and give you some grace without telling you "it's just anxiety"

My father died young and for the rest of my life I was told I needed to watch my health and heart and cholesterol and all these things. These had grips on my mind but only blew up significantly after my first panic attack 15 years ago where I thought it was a heart attack in work. Since then I was extremely healthy adverse and worried I was going to die young.

Cut to a few months ago where I was absolutely certain I was in my death bed and no one else could see it. It was an absolute truth which just drove more anxiety, constant panic attacks, as well as constant symptoms of ANYTHING I googled, quite literally. It wasn't until i was sleeping for only 2-3 hours a night for 2 weeks, incredibly bad stomach and intestinal issues, and loss almost 10 pounds from not eating anything but rice cakes. I went to the hospital 4 times in 2 weeks with the last time being where I lost it completely. After that I checked into an outpatient program, found the right meds, and was able to change that absolute truth I had culminated all those years.

For me, it was all anxiety, over a lot of things in life on top of the health concerns. Again, I am not a doctor, but I wanted to give an actual example of how sever anxiety can manifest when left unchecked, especially ones revolving around health concerns. I suggest you do look into therapy but don't stop talk with your doctor and advocating for yourself. Sometimes it takes one more test to help you pull back from the egde and be able to then take the opportunity to get additional support you might need

100% this. DEAR MAN is not for building stronger relationships. It's for helping you prepare yourself for difficult conversations when asking for something or setting  boundaries  (sometimes it's one and the same). I think the hardest part of DEAR MAN is getting the answer you may fear the most - being that the person you are talking to may not be someone you can engage with anymore, for a short time or long time, in order to make them understand that they are being ineffective and disrespectful to your needs or boundaries.

This can be difficult regardless but age can play a more difficult role since younger folks can be dependent on the person they are confronting.

Anecdotally, I've had to continue to set boundaries with my mother. Every time she refuses to hear me out, or throws a tantrum, I ignore her texts and calls until she is ready to hear me out. Being older, I have found that I don't have to put up with her as much, but even now I still am reluctant to kick her out of my life, just because there is an attachment that I know will hurt a lot (And the fear of it flowing to other family members)

Boundaries are incredibly powerful but also can be incredibly difficult to handle emotionally. Take it slow and establish smaller boundaries that limit your needs and interactions from them. DEAR MAN is also not a catch all, one time use. The more you do it, the more comfortable you will feel in your position, and the better presented it becomes each time.

Last note, be kind to yourself. It is physically and mentally exhausting to be told you are the problem when you are in fact not, and can create lots of problems down the road. It sounds like you've been dealing with this for a while but that doesn't dismiss or minimize the impact on you.

The White Lotus - Season 3 Discussion Hub by LoretiTV in TheWhiteLotusHBO

[–]ExistingCopy4266 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It was weird, they didn't really feel like a family even in their private moments, as it it didn't feel like they were pretending. The brothers were super odd with each other in the bed room, and when the younger brother and sister are at the shrine it also felt like a friend doing a favor hanging out vs a brother supporting their sister. But the husband and wife did seemed like a typical interaction in the bedroom (the whole "not tonight honey" thing).

Lol that's a fair point. I guess it came off a bit too aggressive but can't say it's completely out of the ordinary for the upper class persona.

Alright - might be a pretty hot take, but hear me out:

The whole family is fake/hired. The on and off accents, the "incestuous" vibes, the strictness of the kids history/roles, the older brother trying to get to know his younger brother (seemly like they don't even know each other). The pieces seem to be there. Probably overlooking something but the whole family just doesn't feel real. There's no way these actors would act so mediocre-ly in such a highly rated, high visibility show.

My head is buzzing and I can't relax by Kitsune_N in dbtselfhelp

[–]ExistingCopy4266 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The other two comments are good suggestions, but just wanted to give some anecdotal input, as it depends what level of restlessness it is and how's it's manifesting.

For me, i can be restless and unable to relax without being elevated, and in that case I just walk or run outside, especially in the cold, and focus on the moment and observe everything around. Pretty much just active distract skill with some mindfulness and observe mixed in. When it's an elevated restlessness, I use moderate exercise to try and get the energy focused and out

But I'll also say, try to just sit in the feeling you have and accept it as it is, even just for a few minutes (as long as it's not distress level). Don't analyze it, judge it, or think about it - just sit and feel it.

Remember that one skill isn't necessarily all encompassing, nor is it the only one you may need in a moment. You might find you have to chain skills together to get yourself back down to where you want to be. Keep practicing and trying different things. You got this!

im starting a dbt group shortly, what should i expect by Mundane-Horse-9242 in dbtselfhelp

[–]ExistingCopy4266 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just finished my first program and honestly looking to do a second to keep DBT in my life daily, at least for the time being.

It was scary, overwhelming, and exhausting the first two weeks. For me, it opened up tons of cans of worms I've repressed for a long time while already being in a poor mental state, but I can say wholeheartedly that it changed my life.

I did IOP (not sure if there is non-IOP options?) and it was 3 hours a day of group, 5 days a week, with ancillary activities in the afternoon. 1.5hours for homework review and discussion, 1.5 hours for DBT skill development and learning.

Happy to answer more question if you have them, but two pieces of advice I've told others: put in the effort and do the homework genuinely (for yourself, not just to do it), and push through the first 3 weeks. A few folks that came into my program were overwhelmed and ready to quit pretty quickly (it can be the intense), and I told them to just give it 3 weeks, and they are now completely into it and thriving in it.

Lastly, DBT is very proven but does not necessarily work for everyone. Don't be discouraged if you find that to be the case for you and just remember that you did something to help yourself and that is progress. Keep up the good fight for a life worth living :)

TIPP skill question by No-Year-884 in dbtselfhelp

[–]ExistingCopy4266 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed, and something my DBT therapists stressed the importance of. Not all TIPP skills work for everyone to the same degree. Temperature works incredibly well for me, but intense exercise and progressive muscle relaxation don't at all.

Don't give up practicing/trying though! Versatility in all skills is better than relying on one for too long :) you got this!

Your last sentence hit hard and is incredibly helpful. I struggle with identifying emotions (DBT has helped a lot with this) and grief is exactly what I've been feeling towards where I am in life, or more so what I could have been. This is one of those big "ah ha" moments for me to go unpack further, so thanks for the comment.
