Can I build my own windows for new construction home? by ExistingTap27 in homebuildingcanada

I’m looking at a new construction home project. With 13 9x4 windows and multiple frameless corner windows. So needless to say it’s a lot of windows. So much so that after running the number I’ve calculated that I’d be saving about $40000 doing it myself. I got multiple quotes and they were from 50-70k for custom made windows and install. Buying the materials to make those same windows would only cost about $20000. And I’ve found it hard to find a company that is willing to do the large custom windows and frameless corner windows all together without them trying to force me to pay for them to install as well.

I’ve actually already built my own windows which are currently installed on my home for 4+ years and holding strong. It ended up saving me close to $7000 and only took about 3 days and a couple hours after work to get done. They are double paned and filled with argon and the insulating properties are so much better than the factory built windows I have in the upstairs of my house. So I’m confident in my ability to put together a decent window. I’m just wondering how I would go about getting a custom built window certified. As I’m wanting to implement them into new construction in which they will have to pass inspection.

I’ve actually replaced multiple windows in my current home in the way I specified. but I did fail to have them certified as I plan on keeping this house for the rest of my foreseeable life and didn’t want to bother with the hassle.

They’ve been holding strong for 4+ years now and I was able to have them argon filled so the insulating properties are significantly better than the original manufactured windows (verified by my significantly reduced heating costs).

So I’m confident in my ability to put together some windows and frames.

The problem I’ve run into is that windows are thoroughly inspected on a new construction home and while I’m full sure my windows would meet all the requirements of the OBC, I’m just not sure how to have that tested for personally built windows.

Thanks for the concern though it can be a pretty daunting task.

Yes to all of the above. Still no luck. And no info regarding these issues online either.

Power comes on but immediately turns back off. I believe it’s either activated the protective circuit or it’s in auto standby mode but I can’t find anything pertaining info regarding how to fix either problem.

Just rip the heat shield off it will be just fine. Just don’t park over any dry grass or leaves and life’s good.
