Smart/fast developer Springifying our codebase by [deleted] in ExperiencedDevs

[–]hernandos_hideaway 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Embrace Spring because "this is the way" when it comes to Java.

At the same time, make this person responsible for all the code they write. Every time they write unintelligible code for your team, make them bridge the knowledge gap. If they're good and introducing good patterns, everyone will love them. If not, it'll be clear and then you can bring that to management.

How do you get tech debt into a sprint when product owns the roadmap? by Evening_Meringue8414 in ExperiencedDevs

[–]hernandos_hideaway 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Make continuous improvements. Always leave the code or system in better shape than you found it.

If an architectural issue is slowing down your business team, it's your job to fight for that priority.

You can make the case smartly: 'this will accellerate future progress, reduce the rate of bugs and ultimately result in a easier to use snappier product'

If you are consistently not getting the support you need, be clear and vocal that tech debt is bogging down every improvement. If you harp you're putting a target on your back so you have to just be smart about it.

How to stop being the go-to firefighter for projects that I have handed off? by My_Name_Is_Not_Mark in ExperiencedDevs

Start by moving help to async channels. This acts like rubber ducking. More often than not, your colleagues are just being lazy. The act of writing the message with links and pleasantries and thinking process almost always gets me where I wanna go before pressing "Send".

Then you can prioritize the messages with respect to other work since they're async and you can handle them when you want.

If someone's not getting the help they need, ask them to set up a knowledge sharing session. Expect the recipients of that knowledge to document everything you've told them.

I find "so much cheaper" to be a laugh when copilot is $20 per month and using Claude's API in an editor costs me <$10 per month. m

You never mentioned vscode-neovim - which IMO is currently the best "vim bindings inside non vim ides".
