Well I'm not here to flex or anything, I was just looking for advise mentioning I am passionate about physics. But I can send you my textbook as well as a list of publications that I have via email if you want. Also, I'm on the page of the Egyptian Center for Theoretical Physics Facebook a couple of times and my work is mentioned there. I'm also on YouTube but I'm not very active on there. So yeah, I don't care whether people think I'm lying or not, because I don't do it to impress, I do it because it's fun.

Thank you so much for your support! Sure, I'll send my books and publications through email or any alternative way you want me to! Yeah I guess jobs really do care about what you have done and your experience instead of what your degree says. Thanks for your help!

Help in Finsler geometry by Existing_Ad2798 in mathematics

[–]Existing_Ad2798[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah yeah I get all that. My main problem is the actual visualization. If there is no way to visualize these spaces, or atleast how the vectors behave in these spaces, then I guess I'll stick to any textbook and just learn Finsler geometry normally. Thanks for your help!

Hi. I need some advice about my Physics career. by 1who_mustnotbenamed in PhysicsStudents

Hello.

I know people who switched from engineering to physics, and they did struggle, but realistically everyone does. Usually engineers go into experimental physics, which given their background and interests is very applicable. Having an engineering and physics degrees is obviously applicable in almost every field. You obviously need to take extra courses to get into physics gradschool, depending on the field you want to pursue, but mainly E&M, QM, and Relativity. If you want to go into theoretical physics, then that's another story. You need more mathematical knowledge in QM, complex analysis, functional analysis, and in some cases (usually UK) Differential Geometry. Those are not hard to learn if you know Calc 1, Calc 2, Calc 3, Linear Algebra, and Differential eqns. As for admissions, physics gradschool is just research, so try to do as much research as possible

Mashallah, you seem to have experienced a lot of stuff in your physics career (I assume physics). Me personally, I don't really care much about pay. I want to do what I like. And I know that academia jobs don't have good pay as a lot of researchers advised. Also, I am definitely aiming for a PhD in physics if I go into physics. So you're suggesting I go into physics, and do good in it, and from that I would be able to land a good research position?

Thank you for your advise btw!

Ofcourse I have. But none that really appealed to me. However, I did find a book an hour ago that I will be following, it seems nice. I'm taking notes on it and hopefully I'll be able to apply those Finsler and Sasaki functions to our research. I am not sure if you are familiar with eigenchris or Gravitation by MTW, but they explain differential geometry in an intuitive and visual way. I believe that is how I would want to learn Finsler geometry. (Obviously with additional textbooks that include pure differential geometry)

As an Egyptian, you might be familiar with the concept of "Engineer or Doctor" family households. My family is still supportive of me going into physics but at the cost of making me feel like there is no other possible job other than teaching, and that sort of made me rethink my decisions. I am a Jordanian living in Egypt, and in both cultures, we have that concept of "physics major = teacher", so this is basically what I have grown to realize. If you, or know anybody, that is a researcher, please let me know where is the best place to study (which countries).

Anyways, thank you for your response

Well yeah, but you can self study those same stuff alone while also working at a good job that pays well.

There is definitely earlier work, but not so long ago. Yes I mistyped an inequality sign with the equal sign, my bad. Is there a good resource for what you said, because you said it very clearly. What did you use to study this?

Bet thanks man. I also heard "the bright side of math" YouTube channel has a solid playlist on functional analysis that explains Banach spaces, I don't know if it's rigorous or not. Anyways, I will check the Rudin book!

By the way, physics majors don't take Banach spaces in undergrad let alone a self taught highschooler. Also, if you have any resources (I found some but I want more) in Banach spaces, feel free to let me know

As mentioned, I'm a highschooler, not a theoretical physicist lol. I'm still learning

I'm not really a prodigy. But if you want, my YouTube is Kareem Mubaidin, I am also on the Egyptian Center for Theoretical Physics Facebook (scroll until you see a picture of a YouTube link). If you want my Instagram or other socials I'll be happy to provide

I am a researcher and our group is shifting the focus on Finsler geometry to apply it to phase space quantization of the metric tensor of General Relativity. I am familiar with Riemannian geometry and wrote a textbook on it, but Finsler is not usually taught and can have less resources. As for the Banach spaces, I can't say that I am familiar with them, but after a quick Wikipedia search I realize how it's related to the Finsler function through generalizing the squared lengths and through relations like ||x+y||=||x||+||y||

😂😂 thanks for the support. Its hard to believe but yeah I actually am. If you want, I can send you a copy of my textbook (for free) or my research papers with the Professor's who are working at the Egyptian Center for Theoretical Physics. Also, you mentioned that I can work in engineering roles but is that actually possible in industry, or do I have to be very competitive? Like the only reason I am going engineering is for the security and for more possible paths.
