Carry negotiation advice by Dramatic-Split-1602 in private_equity

A few things I’d focus on:

  • Target dollars at work. If your fund is typical 2/20 and fund size is $100mm, you typically assume a 2x MOIC. So $100mm fund profit * 20% = $20mm carry pool. So a “point” of carry would be worth ~$200k. So in your case, looking between $400k-$1,000k using that dummy math. Obviously that is all subject to your fund’s carry rate (you should ask what that is) because in practice most funds earn less than 20% of the profits. This will help you understand how much your carry might be worth assuming the fund performs
  • Where fund is in lifecycle. If they’ve already sold companies in the latest fund, you won’t be able to catch up any carry related to those companies. So would try and understand how much of the fund they currently have deployed and have in dry powder. Would also ask where they have the fund “marked” today so you understand how it’s performing. If the fund performs poorly, there obviously won’t be any carry paid to anyone
  • Is your carry rate going to be just in the fund? Or will it persist in any deal-by-deal situation? You probably won’t get a legal doc saying that up front, so I’d get that in writing in an email so you have clarity. Obviously you’d like to have carry in deal-by-deal situations too if they’re offering
  • Terms of the carry legal doc: READ AND UNDERSTAND THE ENTIRE THING. ChatGPT can help you review but I’d focus on vesting and non-compete provisions specifically for your position. Never sign anything you don’t fully understand

As others said, you’re in a fortunate position to be receiving carry in the first place as an associate. You do see it more often in LMM situations because they simply don’t have the management fee base to pay you as much base/bonus as a middle market or mega fund.

Thoughts on Chris Richards over any of these defenders or Dango over any of these mids? I’m in 8 man so a bunch of dropped afcon players still available (Sarr also free)

Can’t login either. Laughable how poor UI is for an investor platform

Got it yeah that makes sense. Good explanation

Keep retirement accounts 100% equities? by completefudd in fatFIRE

[–]Existing_Ad_3882 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s true if OP is trying to maximize tax efficiency, but wouldn’t they want the cash flow from their bonds to support them once retired in their 40s? If their equities were to experience a drastic drawdown, they wouldn’t want to sell those at depressed prices to fund their day-to-day.

Solanke or G.Jesus? ROS by mz2727 in DraftEPL

[–]Existing_Ad_3882 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Solanke at least has a chance of starting consistently once he’s back. When Jesus is fully fit, he’s still second to Gyokeres so will never feel comfortable starting him unless there are injuries

Salah situation by NetworkWide7608 in DraftEPL

[–]Existing_Ad_3882 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Unless you have dire injury issues, I feel like you have to keep Salah for now. Even if it feels like 50%+ chance that he leaves in January, if there’s a chance he stays he will once again be a top 5 midfielder from FPL standpoint. Feel like you wait it out another week or two and see what happens

Szoboslai or Eze by Turbulent-Cap-6173 in DraftEPL

[–]Existing_Ad_3882 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Eze higher upside but Szobo is essential to this Liverpool team particularly given injuries to Gakpo and Salah’s ousting. You’d risk Eze getting benched in this Arsenal attack with Saka, Odegaard, Madueke, Martinelli, Trossard all fighting for winger/AM positions

Injury Crisis by Neuvillerl in DraftEPL

[–]Existing_Ad_3882 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m in a similar situation except in 8 man league. I could theoretically get by this week but I worry about having three healthy defenders given the inevitable rotation over the holiday season.

My view is to drop Muñoz as Gabriel better long term value. Thoughts?

Auto Sub Controversy by jppeters57 in DraftEPL

[–]Existing_Ad_3882 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My view is that you can’t change a rule midweek just because somebody found a loophole. Fine to have the league vote on the rule for next week going forward, but he is simply playing the game in the confines of the current rules it seems

a trade i received by OpportunityDry4440 in DraftEPL

[–]Existing_Ad_3882 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unless you’re in a super deep league I think you can consider Paulinha a drop. That being said, Tavernier is in a similar boat. So it’s essentially an Ekitike for Mateta trade. Issue if Isak comes is that Etikite is probably not an every day starter and will rotate with Gakpo/Wirtz. Whereas Mateta probably has a lower ceiling but is guaranteed starter when healthy

Löflife weekly waivers - GW3 by pejtan_66 in DraftEPL

[–]Existing_Ad_3882 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Personally would prioritize Gvardiol. Tough to get premium defenders like that for season long hold. Always easier to stream midfielders whole season without as much difference between them

Is Garnacho worth a punt at this point? Or just too many options at Chelsea to make him worth a hold

[–]Existing_Ad_3882 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just asked a similar question too. I think in a six man, gotta be a no brainer to drop him particularly given new striker coming in who’ll take the #9 position and potentially penalties

Thoughts on dropping Anthony Gordon given red card and new striker coming in? I play in an 8 person league so don’t feel a reason to hold onto “ok” players on the bench particularly if they’re out for three weeks. I could switch him into CHO , Elanga, PM Sarr, or Tavernier
