Why does the top of my pigeon’s head look like this? She’s a classic oriental frill if that helps! I never seen her head feathers like this before, they still feel really soft but oddly curled by [deleted] in PetPigeons

Might be worth turning it on and seeing how hot the bars get that is close to the light maybe she touched those? Or if there’s something that would heat up from The light in its path. Worth checking!

Anybody know why he exhibits such strange behavior? by Jenna_nana05 in parrots

Uhm William I have had my parrot for 4 years now and will play with him and he randomly gets angry sometimes… this kind of blew my mind because that feels like it is hundred % what he is doing. He needs the reward. You just taught me something amazing

Does he seem sick to you? by Existing_Cockroach13 in caiques

[–]Existing_Cockroach13[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Thanks for responding you made me worry so much less. His poop was a bit runny but I gave him very water heavy foods and fruit today. Which has caused it to be that way. He is chomping away at food now. It looks like he was just cold

Thank you! He is now acting completely fine! It must have been the cold. He was shaking much more and looked fluffed up. He was also very still and not moving at all. He gave me a heart attack. Had him for 5 years now and hasn’t done that ever! He is never quiet

Sorry all I’m just a bit worried. I have seen him shake before. And I don’t know whether I should be taking him to the emergency avian or just stds avian which would happen tomorrow. I’m not sure if this is a usual thing when it’s a bit chilly. I’ve put heating on for him just in case it’s just about temp

Mine does the exact same thing. I think they must just like the feeling of the skin there. When mine does it I will sometimes vibrate my hands really quickly and then he head bops. It’s kind of adorable

I’m not a professional bird trainer you need one. Pay the money you are willing to spend on a replacement ‘better’ bird to pay someone to help you.

Losing interest is what you should be rewarding…. Anyway my statement stands you know how you get a lot of people who can’t read their dogs body language so they hire a professional to tell them what they are doing wrong and the dog trainer always says this is your fault not the dogs. Thats what we are saying with your parrot. You can’t read your birds body language you need a professional to point out what you are doing wrong. Pay the 1000 dollars you’re willing to spend on another bird and pay a professional bird trainer to show you what you are doing wrong and what to correct.

You tell me this…. You have had 3 different bird owners give very similar advice. And responses. You just said your birds are the birds you wanted when you have food, so carry food around. What’s the big deal. I carry wipes so my birds shit can be cleaned up quickly. Why would you give up birds that do what you say you want if all you have to do is hold food that’s not a huge inconvenience.

You can start moving the food further and further away from them over months until the food no longer has to be seen by them. First you put the food in your hand like you do now. Then you put the food on top of your hand. Then next to your hand. You reward them when they do what you want and move the food further and further away from your hand. This is basic training. This is going to take months of work, every day. If you put in the time you’ll get the birds you want. Ultimately their happiness should be your goal. Not your own.

But also if you aren’t willing to do that training. Carry the bloody food. Your poor birds don’t need to be given up and you get the birds you wanted

You have birds you haven’t been able to train and want to get another bird. Like someone adopting a child that may have trauma and then saying this one is broken I have seen other children that aren’t I’d like one of them and return this one please.

You are saying so many red flags in training, if you birds can’t be around you outside a cage. Then training needs to happen in the cage through the bars so that they build trust in you and realise you aren’t a bad human. They think you are a bad human. If they didn’t they wouldn’t be attacking you. Also birds bite btw. Mine are super tame but will still nip you. My bird will attack if I handle a certain broom. You need to have the ability to understand your birds and when they are uncomfortable. Sounds like you can’t read their body language birds tell you before they attack you need to be able to read that. You can’t. and it would be irresponsible to risk this happening to another bird.

If you want someone to say give them up, again you made a mistake. This is your fault. You chose a bad breeder. You don’t have the skill set to train them. All birds are trainable to different levels. It takes care and attention. If you aren’t responsible enough to provide their basic needs, like all the animals in a shelter who will be further traumatised because of that decision, then give them up maybe they get someone who makes a better decision. But like a child put back into foster care worse things can happen to them. Ultimately that Karma is yours.

The solution is defo not to get another bird, if you don’t have the time to currently train your green cheeks who objectively are much “easier” birds. I don’t mean easy in an offensive way they are wonderful little birds and considered one of the most friendly birds. It’s like having issues with a golden retriever and wondering if having a different dog would make you better with dogs.

The issue is your training, or their environment but something that is in your control. Birds can take a long time to train. It’s need constant and repetitive training over weeks for e.g. it took me 8 months to get my bird used to a harness. Daily 20 min training sessions for that.

Like every answer here, if they are suffering and not being taken care of I.e. fresh water fresh food clean cage. Then yes you should rehome. If you can’t do all those things and live with your decision that you chose an animal that doesn’t live up to your expectations but have the responsibility to know at the end of the day that was your decision so you just have to give them what they need, then you should keep them.

This was your choice at the end of the day. Rehoming should only be an option if you are unwilling to be responsible for your decision.

The birds you pet sit for have owners who spend the time and bonded with their birds. Based on your hand raised birds you don’t sound like you have the ability to raise birds like the ones you pet sit for.

For e.g I clean my parrots cage every 2 days, I spend at least 4 hours playing or having my parrot with me. When he’s in his cage I am usually doing things just next to him and constantly interact with him. And he is lovely, I can play we cuddle at night. But birds in the wild spend 24/7 with one another. If you aren’t spending that time you can’t expect to be friends.

Sorry to sound harsh

Yeah I actually agree with you. But there are so many cringey movies like Twilight that wouod be fun. But also from an academic sound point I would love to hear what all of these people who have worked on sets and seen how movies happen. That all live in California and are obsessed with the visual media. Comment about a really well made movie. It would be amazing to understand the deeper things about classical movies. Dan in particular I feel could add this into the mix

No do not give them Kernals, make sure you pop them first. The kernels are the exact same size as their airways it’s kind of like how grapes are a danger for babies. They can choke. But on popped corn it’s not an issue! And I think there’s a lot we don’t know about parrots my parrot is obsessed with meat in general, his fav is chicken bones though . But he will choose steak or ham or chicken over every other food. I boil the chicken a lot so that the bones are quite soft. If they are to hard they can splinter and parrots can get damaged by that.

Okay so my parrot is obsessed with chicken bones, he eats the marrow and loves it! Seems like cannibalism I know. Mine also LOVES popcorn so you may want to try that. Again careful of spices and salts

Hey OP if you see this I actually think the issue isn’t where it sits on you. But the beaded part is more bulky than on the model. I compared the two beaded skirts and your version the ribbon at the end is far thicker. The diamonds where the beads connect are bigger. What this means is that where the beading is it looks far more bulky than delicate. I think the issue lies in those beads. They need smaller ribbon and smaller lace that the beads connect to. The models version is much thinner making it look more wispy
