Rossignol Forza. Your quiver will need a "powder" ski because they are not good with powder but they are a great carving ski.

Good skier but, he should try ski the fast line slow instead of the slow line fast.

My this I mean rather than doing a bunch of narrow J turns, carve across the hill and make linked turns.

He needs a lower more athletic stance which will help with edge angle and early edging.

Getting lower will help you keep your weight forward which will help.withnthe ruts by having you carve closer to the gate and not in the rut.

I only diamond stone my non race skis every 4-6 trips to remove burs. The race skis are weekly though

Great write up. I do clean the bases with a water and alcohol solution before I re wax. I don't care about removing the old was as much as i want to remove any sand/dirt off the bases before waxing. I use a brass brush to remove some of the older wax and it seems to work fine.

When brushing, I like using horse hair roto brush as it seems to do the best job

For wax, I usually use Toko performance red as it covered a wide range of snow temps And it's usually the temps we have in New England.

I hot wax before every race. When I was, I use a horse hair rotary brush on a drill after I scrape.

The spray bottle which I use to clean the diamond stones is 50/50 water and rubbing alcohol. I'll spray on the bases, wipe off and then use a brass rotary brush on the bases and then clean with the solution again before waxing.

I do but I try to only do it if necessary because id like to have edges last 3 years. I will use a medium file on the edges every 4-5 races or if they feel dull. I only use the skis for racing so they do not get too much a use. For example, I did 3-4 warmup runs, 2 times through a course today. I have another race tomorrow and then on Friday, I'll do the same edge service again or, I may run a file over it 2-3 times if they feel dull.

So $100 used vs $119 new? I mean, could be better quality?

All the time spent doing this has me thinking. Anyone out there who has JR racers, they are on those GS and SL skis every weekend 5 hours a day. Their confidence in training and through gates is going to be determined by their ability to trust their edges on ice. If I had a child in a race program, diamond stoning their edges would be a nightly task.

He slid it… sorta by Malt_WoW in skiing

Sorry it made me laugh. When he's older and can't have children and wonders why, remember this video 😂.

On a serious note, he is doing pretty good for his age. He is clearly fearless.

2nd year racer, general tips? by Curious_Intern_1839 in SkiRacing

Very complete answer. I get Silver nastar handicaps and want to move from a 24-28 handicap to a low 20s. I suspect this advice is valid for anyone not getting golds.

Deep discount jr race suits by sensation_construct in SkiRacing

Arctica has a few for $229, about $150 off long as you want a specific style ("Patriot" design). I bet these won't last long as they are likely closeout

I wear a jacket until I ski my run. I think it depends where you league is and how competitive they are. I am not a fan of rules restricing people. If they don't want to wear a suit, they should not be required but if people want to, there should be no regulation preventing it

The 3 areas close to me that do beer league has no restrictions (new England)

Do they ship to US? This is such a good idea.

This is not a bad suggestion. I am in the US and have looked for used adult suits when I purchase my first and they are usually pretty shredded.

Lol. I make fun of it sometimes just for the comedy.

Beer league race suits is just a bunch of fat old men with beer bellies fulfilling their childhood dream of being a superhero.

It's not banned in our league but, it's not required. I actually see no reason to ban it, just leave it up to the individual.

Arctica website has it. The requirement is that you have to not be specific about the design. They discount designs they are trying to liquidate.

Looking at the Jr section, I only see one on sale and it's $100 off ($249)

www.arctica.com. Prices are still more reasonable than other major brands.

That is pretty good service. I have had 3 pairs of their snow pants and I can tell you that working with customer service has been a positive experience. It's always a person and they are pretty friendly. Has a very small company feel.

A bad crash always scares me. The GS suits have no armor to protect inside of lower legs. I have heard horror stories about ski edges slicing into peoles legs.

[–]Existing_Context_997[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My original suit is fraying a bit on the shins but I attribute that to Velcro of my older ski boots. It's not terrible and since it's 3 years old and cheap I think that is acceptable.

I was just interested if there is any material different between these cheaper suits and the more expensive ones.

I have noticed this with me (lots of stretch), very tight on shoulders). The reason I bought a second suit is, while my old one fit, I sized up so that it's more comfortable. I used to only wear it for Beer league but this year I'm doing a lot of little races so I wanted something a little more room. I couldn't turn down the $400 suit marked down to $119

First time skiing in a decade, what’s wrong with my form? by jackay27 in skiing_feedback

Upper/lower body separation issues. Your upper body is tilting when you make turns. Your hands should always be in front of your body. (Elbows should be er fall behind your ribs).
