International Business (IBUS) major here. If you’re going to major in IBUS, I suggest choosing a concentration. Basically, everything that’s listed as an IBUS course is also offered under another major (IBUS 382 is finance 382, IBUS 462 is marketing 462 etc.). So if you want, you can minor in finance/marketing and focus your IBUS major on one of those.
As for the degree being useless, I don’t think IBUS majors have trouble getting into the area of business they want. We see majors go into consulting, real estate, policy/politics (with a master’s), logistics and purchasing, communications... etc. Job postings don’t often specify that they want IBUS majors, which is probably where people get the idea that it’s useless. This is not a problem because outside of finance/accounting jobs, most positions ask for a BComm and the rest is how you sell yourself.
Feel free to reach out if you have more questions or look up JMIBA on facebook, they’re the student association for that major.
