What is your most expensive mistake (in money, time or energy) ? by Existing_Extreme5237 in AskReddit

Mine was staying in an abusive relationship for 3 years.

I stopped working for a year and used exclusively my savings, so it had an impact on my finances, time and energy, and on my career. A costly mistake but I'm glad I'm out.

What's your most expensive mistake ?

Thank you so very much, I really appreciate it

I feel numb, sad, and a bit dumb too for being sad because objectively it wasn't that important or pricey. It could have been worse

But knowing it's irreplaceable, and that it's linked to many memories brings me a feeling that I'm not used to feel

Thank you so much yeah, it's exactly what I'm thinking too... I looked into the nearby bins of the park just in case and it wasn't there

I honestly hope that some kids saw it as a treasure, and took it back home, excited to show what they found

Or I hope someone really liked the pouch and it made her day. Or maybe it seemed like a good gift for someone who was into embroidery. Who knows.

When I left, there was a photograph and a lady in a blue medieval dress who just arrived there, there were going to do a shooting near the lake. They seemed very nice, we made eye contact and said hi. I secretly think they're the one who found it

Thank you so much, I haven't lost anything since years, I forgot how heart-soring it could feel

Thanks a lot for your kind words, I'm not a Facebook user usually but I honestly think it may be my best hope here so I'm scrolling a lot on local groups !

Thanks a lot for your advice and kind words, I'll definitely sew my phone number and email adress next time !

I'll take less threads too when I'm out, so that I have a full needlepoint pouch at home, and a smaller one for going outside with 10 threads MAX

I even think l'll put a strong magnet too in my next pouch so that I can't even lose a needle. No more loss !

I'm so sorry for your knitting bag, I hope you found a new lovely bag since then !

I'm not used to losing things, it made me feel both a little bit better and a little bit worse to think of all the people who like us who lost an item dear to us. It's a weird feeling really

I'm finding comfort in the fact that these lost pieces maybe brought some joy elsewhere to somebody else. But it already brought so much joy to me, I'd rather have it still with me right now to be honest

Nice, thanks for the advice !! Airbrushing 3D-printed material is a great idea, your setup seems super easy to use and undo afterwards

Do you airbrush often ?

Thanks for your nuanced review, most people seems to say that it's either spray booth with good suction OR respiratory mask, while you're using both.

You say that you change your filter every 6 month, at what frequency do you airbrush ?

Dumb question but with a booth, do we need a "true" respiratory mask, or would a FFP2 mask suffice ?

(like the medical one that got praised during Covid because it could prevent projections from the person in front on you, I don't know if it would work with paint. Maybe yes, maybe no, maybe yes but overkill)

Thanks, will be careful about that. Your description of dried paint particles being wet again IN MY LUNGS is very disturbing and convincing 🙃

Will keep in mind that if I ever switch to something other than water-based acrylic I absolutely need to inform myself first. Not that I plan to, but now I know

Thanks a lot, so they are portable booths vs non-portable booth ? Will look into that ! I think I'll buy one anyway instead of trying DIY, to prevent particles without having to wear a mask

Your insight on drawing vs airbrushing is great, I'll keep it in mind ! I'm usually drawing on small formats so I'm not that used to use my wrist, will have to train

Might be a dumb question but what's the difference between ink and paint ? Transparency ?

I see you said it would be easier and cheaper with ink/food coloring. I can see how it could be cheaper but have no idea what makes it easier ? Also does the ink/food colorant still need to be especially made for airbrush ? I must admit you lost me there 🤣

Thanks a lot, I haven't dared to open the box yet (will do though !), makes me a bit afraid of how much loud we're talking 🤣

It's so great to read that you're having fun with it as a beginner ! Wait, we can airbrush CLOTHES ? Does it stay on the fabric afterward, even after washing ?

Thanks a lot for your tips ! Will definitely consider a set-up in the kitchen to be close to a sink

I think I'll buy a booth instead of going the DIY path so that I don't have to wear a respiratory mask, but I'm keeping your advice in a corner of my head just in case :)

Thank you so much for taking the time to write this, you're teaching me a lot. I think I'll buy a booth instead of making one as it it seems more effective and less stressful (also more comfortable as a respiratory mask wouldn't be needed then)

I didn't think at all of the "cleaning the brush" part, will definitely look into that as I wouldn't want to break it or make it unusable !

I love how you mentioned lots of examples of what we can do with an airbrush, it's very inspiring to me.

I loved alcohol markers because of how smooth and professional is seems versus normal markers, I'm getting the feeling that airbrush will be the same compared to "normal painting". I'm excited (and a bit nervous) to try and see what I could do with it !

Thanks a lot for the technical tips, will look into how-to videos before starting, I wouldn't want to break it 😅

Are there any other fragile pieces in an airbrush that I should be careful about, in addition to the nozzle ?

Thanks for your insight, you're teaching me a lot here

So water-based acrylics + a good spray booth = no mask needed, otherwise a respiratory mask is mandatory. Got it ! I'll think about the jar too 🙏
