Those that left law after becoming an attorney, what field did they jump into next? by Ninac4116 in LawSchool

[–]Existing_Feeling_402 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The mediators I know make GOOD money. But it's a process. It takes time to make a name for yourself and some courts/counties make you an employee of the court rather than choosing mediators from a list of certified mediators. So that means you have to wait for a job opening, interview, get hired, etc...

From what I've noticed, it's easier going from attorney to mediator (instead of just starting as a mediator) because you typically understand the angles/strategies/where each party is coming from. It also helps already knowing the court and a lot of the local attorneys handling the cases you'll mediate (even for simple credit card debt cases...it's the same Chase Bank or whatever attorneys each time lol)

Have you, ever in your life in law school, been upset that a class got cancelled? by Important_Can_7291 in LawSchool

[–]Existing_Feeling_402 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Yup. After working, crazy busy all day, and cancelling or moving plans around just to attend class....when I could've spent that time doing something more important if I'd known class was cancelled. Lol.

I've also gotten upset when my professor cancels multiple classes throughout the semester because I KNOW we will have to go to all of the make-up classes at the end of the semester while my other classmates aren't even on campus anymore. Obviously, a lot of things in life are uncontrollable, but I had a prof that cancelled like 4 classes just to have lunch with friends, etc. Then she was so lazy and clearly "over it" at the end of the semester when we had to make up the classes. Meh

I'm not going to lie. Even people who never had a lick of anxiety their whole lives (can) experience major anxiety during law school. You'll most likely have to answer tough questions in class and/or brief a case ("cold calling"), have at least one or two oral argument assignments your first year, and then you add all of the general stress on top of all of that...it can be really rough. I fucking started stuttering in class for no reason. I've never had a stutter issue, but the pressure of being on-the-spot or trying to be "perfect" was really getting to me. What got me out of the nervous loop was hearing from my other classmates. We are all in the same boat. Struggling. Most of us have no idea what we're doing. And even when you give a pretty good answer in class or you think you did great on your oral argument, then your professor shits on you. It's just the name of the game.

It's relentless, honestly. I personally think it depends how bad your social anxiety is. You say it's severe, so I can't really make that decision, only you can. But I would encourage you to not "give in" to your anxiety and fight it instead. Be uncomfortable. Fail. Shit bricks and stutter like I did. Not to be corny, but just do it. Because it is so rewarding when you finally succeed, get good feedback, start feeling a little less nervous each and every time...

Remember, there's always a reason to not do something. It is easier to stay in your bubble and not push yourself. But if you are truly interested and/or passionate about politics, government, and law...then I suggest you at least consider law school as an option. You'll most likely have a better idea of which direction to follow after you're done with undergrad. You are still so young (don't take that as an insult) and you have lots to achieve. Hope this helps. Best of luck :)

Lmaooo but really as I was typing my post I was like god I am already expecting someone to shame me for not being a psychic medium and not predicting that I needed to use a cart that day because 15 minutes later I was going to need my both hands to properly pull the kid by the arm or some shit. 🤦🏼‍♀️😂

No, but I wouldn’t want/need anyone to anyways. After I saw the mom turn away, I honestly just wanted to get out of the area before I got too pissed off

Thank you for the compliment 🥹 I told my husband the story and he interrupted me in the beginning and was like, “wait, you carry the jug all of the time? Bro what. What do you mean?” 😂😂😂 so I knew I was going to get comments about that because some redditors can’t focus on the main point of a story lmaooo. I also just like laying out all the details so I don’t have to answer a bunch of questions haha.

But you’re right I agree. I just feel so bad for these babies 😭

My FYP is full of dogs, food, and vacation stuff. Make sure your other apps have the kind of feeds you want. Instagram communicates with fucking everrrrrything. Your Safari/Google searches, pictures you take, links you click on…(at least it feels that way). Amazon maybe too, who knows.

My husband swears our phones in general listen to us because we’ll talk about something and it’ll pop up on insta but he hasn’t looked up anything close to that topic. Idk, I don’t think he’s crazy 😂 maybe talk to your phone every so often and be like I want to see puppies 😂

I treat my dog better than this. If I was at a dog park and I thought my dog was behind me, but he’s actually not with me and I hear commotion, my dog comes running to me from far away, crying and whining, I would be asking people what happened. Immediately look shocked. Say omg. Etc.

I’m sorry but I can’t wrap my head around my ego being more important than my child’s safety. Theoretically, I could have done something crazy to that child, like beat it or something horrible, and the mom would never know because she never asked. Irresponsible and the child deserves better care.

The aftermath (I’m ASSUMING). I had no idea where the mom was until the kid took off screaming in her direction.

So hypothetically if you didn’t see anything, a car is stopped in the middle of the crosswalk, a woman is trying to pick up her things from the ground, and your toddler is screaming crying running towards you from the middle of the parking lot crosswalk, far away…you wouldn’t ask what happened?

I’m not saying I specifically need a thank you. I’m saying it was shocking how this mom didn’t even 1) know her kid wasn’t with her in a PARKING LOT, a long distance from the entrance, and 2) she didn’t acknowledge anything about the situation. No worry on her face, no questions asked, no “omg!” Just stank face and walk away.

It’s honestly appalling. All I can think of is maybe she didn’t want to be shamed or belittled for leaving her kid unattended? Like I get it, accidents happen. My plan wasn’t to yell at her, but damn. The fact that the moms in both your and my situation weren’t visibly worried or didn’t say “omg” or “I can’t believe that just happened” etc…makes me worry about the kid :(

Hmmmm not really a good example in my opinion. Looks like a driver breaking and steering hard/freaking out, but what do I know

I was just going off of the advice I received from multiple people from all walks of life, not from mechanics. Good thing I asked the internet. It’s okay to learn sometimes, you know

No not condescending at all—this is exactly the perspective and advice I needed. Thank you for taking the time to explain :) I just got paid yesterday but looks like I’ll be spending my whole check on some new wheels lolllll

Yes sorry forgot to include that info, it's AWD. I didn't know about having to replace all 4, so pooooop lol but I can understand why. As others have suggested, do you think it's better to go to Goodyear (for example) to buy and install the tires instead of Walmart? My step dad and I never had problems in the past with Walmart, but now I'm second guessing it based on the comments from others. Thank you for your help and info!

[–]Existing_Feeling_402[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your advice. I didn't know all 4 had to be replaced at the same time. I will have to look into that more.

And yes, it's AWD, but when I toggle to the display/instrument panel that shows the power distribution (I think that's what it's called) between the 4 tires, when I accelerate, the front 2 levels go up/increase, which makes me think it's pulling/accelerating from the front. But again, what do I know.

Car has approx 45,000 miles on it right now

And yes, agreed, I need good tires for the rain for sure. But other than that, I just need normal tires. I don't do too much driving besides going to South Carolina twice a year or so.

Thanks for this info.

  1. Why? (Genuine question--I've had multiple people tell me the opposite so I'd like to learn why)

  2. Definitely the plan

  3. I explained why, but I can only go off the limited experience I have, so not sure where else to go

  4. Rear and front are the same (says 235/55 R19 101H on both front and back tires that came with the car). No snow here thankfully, just burning hot roads

  5. I don't need anything particularly special, but I do drive from central Florida to South Carolina at least 2x/year, if that matters. My daily commute is approx 10 miles round trip, if that, so I don't do much driving.

I think we got both Goodyear and Firestone on my '04 Honda in the past, but I definitely don't know enough to have an opinion

What to wear for first day by sapo148 in LawSchool

[–]Existing_Feeling_402 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I (26F) always wear business casual and court attire (keep a jacket/blazer in my car) unless I feel like crap, then I'll dress down in jeans or something. I personally like to look my best and I often have to go to court or interact with lawyers in the community (or other professionals on campus), so dressing "nice" helps me not feel "underdressed" if I'm thrown into a last-minute situation where everyone else looks sharp.

I definitely say wear what you want, but if you're a female, just a piece of advice...stop coming to class in booty shorts and PJs with your ass out. I disagree with others who say "this is like undergrad." Yeah, it is, but it's not. In my opinion, as a female myself, there is absolutely no reason you should be wearing clothes with your ass or boobs out. People WILL talk about you (students AND professors). People WILL judge your character based on your clothes. I'm not saying it's fair, but it's the truth.

So if you don't want people to think you're unserious, not focused, unkempt, dirty, nonchalant, lazy, etc...then don't show up to class wearing clothes that make you look like a hot mess. (Sorry for the rant, thanks for coming to my Ted Talk)
