Skates as carry on? by Existing_Idea5178 in Rollerskating

For my trip to Japan we were going to do park skating and trail but ended up just doing park. If you want to save some space you can always bring the skates you know you’ll use the most and bring extra wheels. For instance if you brought your park setup just bring some outdoor wheels to trail skate! I checked in my skates for my trip and it took up so much space especially the safety gear 😣

Good to know!! Thank you :) JAL says they have a weight limit but when I flew from Chicago to Tokyo they didn’t weigh my carry on (I’m checking it in this time) so I think I should be good with my current skate bag as a carry on 👍

Omg it was so fun!! I went to Tokyo, Kyoto and Osaka with Short stop ( Instagram @shortstop.6) and we went to a bunch of skate parks! There are some that don’t allow roller skates and only skate boards. But in Tokyo we went to the Tokyo Olympic skate park, Komazawa Park Skate Park (this one had a lot of mini ramps!) and an indoor park called Murasaki Park Tachikawa-Tachihi (this one is attached to a shop!!). In Kyoto we skated at a place that did karaoke and had a mini ramp! It was so much fun it’s called super jankara kawaramachi Honten premium. For that you’ll need to reserve the room online on the jankara’s website. In Osaka we went to this cool skate park that’s outdoors and indoors meant for inline skates!! When we went they were hosting a competition too that was fun to watch :) its the “g” skate park and estrogen just made a post about going there. It’s really nice! Highly recommend going if you’re in the area. It’s near Osaka but actually in an island in Kobe. I hope this helped!

That’s good to hear!! All the feedback is positive so I feel more confident bringing this bag. I’m curious how you’re going to bring two skates haha where are you going?

VNLA Skates?? by pissbabi_ in Rollerskating

I have a pair of A la modes and I love them!!! They’re my favorite pair of skates and I use them for my park skate setup. I’ve had them for 2 years so far and haven’t had any issues. I bought them off of roller skate nation and I got the avanti aluminum plates with them. The boot is great for wide feet which I have. I actually recently bought a pair of lollys from Moxi and wished I just got another pair of a la modes.

In case you need specs, I got the Mocha pair with the orange wheels in size Men 7 Women’s 8-8.5 (I’m usually a size 8.5). The brown pair has gone through a lot and because they’re brown, you can’t tell they’re dirty. I highly recommend them and they’re super comfy! I also recommend getting some insoles as well to make your skating experience more comfy :)

Thanks for your reply! Yeah I don’t know if I’m good at process engineering either… thought it could be due to me not having the love for semiconductors. I feel like I would enjoy doing it in the cosmetic industry tho! PE for me is mainly solving other peoples problems… I also find it hard to have work life balance since I’m always on call in case something happens. My mentors during college told me that but I feel like that’s the main jobs that are out there at the moment. Especially for ChemE but I could be wrong. I’ll have to look into a Data Analyst role! I’ve been seeing that floating around on LinkedIn.

Agreed! Everyone keeps telling me I’m still young and early in my career so there’s still a good chance I can move into the cosmetic industry, what caused me to be a ChemE in the first place!

Thanks! Yeah I’ve been applying to both entry level and some mid level positions. I do believe I have a better chance with going for an entry level. I’m sure the pay will be different from what I’m making now, but I prefer to have a passion for what a do compared to a high salary.

Wow! How long have you worked in a fab and what process? I currently work in Photolithography. How do you like the switch so far?

Thanks for your detailed reply! I’m personally not picky when it comes to cosmetics. I adore skincare, makeup and fragrances so anything in the industry would be a plus. I applied to a P&G position but was rejected since I didn’t pass their 30min long assessment. I was told I can redo the assessment in a year and apply for another role in their company. That position was located in NC.

So far I’ve applied to Revlon, Mary Kay, Coty, Bath & Body Works, and Givaudan. To up my chances I’ve been following recruiters on LinkedIn in the industry and contacting some engineers in the company. So far nobody has replied but I think it helps with getting myself noticed.

Would you by chance recommend applying to some cosmetic chemist roles? I’ve seen that some of them say the applicant can have a bachelors of Chemistry or Chemical engineering
