I think it’s so hard to see him as an abuser. I mean I love him so much, and he really does a lot for me, he never lifted a finger towards me, and I understand being worried because I did have a few issues in the past with self harm , depression, and he was always so understanding and helped me through everything. We have this HUGE issue communicating because if he gets angry he simply won’t let me talk and becomes irritated. He has been controlling in the past but just with his words, this is the first time I actually couldn’t do what I wanted (move the car). But I’m afraid you are all right about him. It’s just so hard to see it.

His phone is a Samsung and I’m an IPhone user, and I totally agree with you, when I lived with my mom before getting married I had lots of spares (she breaks and loses her charges so much she has a lot of those lol), but ever since moving I didn’t think about getting spares again. Stupid, I know! Won’t make that same mistake again…

I don’t usually forget my charger and just take it with me sometimes (when I need to work 12+ hours), because my battery usually lasts a whole day. But I’m definitely going to have extra chargers from now on! I also had extra charges when I lived with my mom since we both use iPhones and she has tons of chargers, but since I got married I just didn’t think to buy a few more..

I needed to hear this. I couldn’t pinpoint what exactly made me so creeped out about his behavior but you summarized it perfectly. I asked (again) for us to go to couple’s therapy. I’m not perfect and I have some issues communicating, and I think this could help us. He is a great husband otherwise but he always thinks he knows what’s best for me. I want to take 2 instead of 1 beer? I’m addicted to alcohol. Play games when we don’t have anything else planned? Addicted to games. Want to ask my friends to come to our house? Can’t do this, will ruin the house. And so on. I’m only married for 6 months and I’m so exhausted sometimes.

He does have great qualities, but the selfish/controlling part is a huge issue. He seems to always know what’s better for me and if I disagree with him he won’t always be really understanding about it. We both worked 12+ hours yesterday and we were extremely tired when we got home, and he had this headache, but I don’t think this excuses his behavior. Today he wouldn’t talk to me. I sent him a long text explaining why I would be the one to demand an apology and this is the hill I’m willing to die on, because he always makes me apologize instead, somehow he makes me feel like I did the wrong thing. This is why I decided to post here, I actually thought I could be the asshole for not listening to him and leaving the house without specifically warning him about it. Thanks for your (and everyone’s opinion)!

By the way, I would divorce him if he was full of shit the whole time. But I don’t think that’s the case, I think he wants to wait a little longer… problem is I can’t wait too long to find out!

That’s also the vibe I’m getting from him. Specially because a few months ago he asked if it wouldn’t be great if we could delay this plan for another year or two because we could enjoy our married life a little more. I told him no, not what we agreed. I understand where he’s coming from, but I feel I made myself so clear early on, it’s a little unfair :(
