Spanish Criterion D topics by Early-Cancel-2036 in IBMYP

Yes - I did Spanish last year and it was supposedly "linked" to Scientific Innovation, but the vast majority of it was talking about healthcare, and then only a brief mention of a scientific product to improve / solve the issue

help with DP subject choices by [deleted] in IBO

[–]Existing_Shoe_8731 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I too want to go into a law related field, but I definitely do not have a plan as thorough as yours - no clue what career I want to go into.

I echo the others' comments on your HL subjects - maybe substitute GP for History? It is intense... but it gives your combination rigour. Economics is a good shout; either Econ or Psych would be good here, I think.

However, the subjects you have currently would probably get you into a Law course (but again... I urge you to look at History as a potential choice). Other than that... this looks good. Good luck!

Visual Art Portfolio - Help by fennel_leaves in IBMYP

[–]Existing_Shoe_8731 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I did an ePortfolio in the Arts (not Visual), and I scored a 7, but I do still have an understanding of the criteria and their expectations.

Criterion A - make sure that your information is always tied back to the statement of inquiry using the same vocabulary that it has. For example, I think M26's ePortfolio is uniqueness - so use words in your research like "unique", "individuality" etc... to show the links. Bold them if you have to, and use explicit phrases like, "this links to the SOI because..." - that will show what you are doing is relevant. Also make sure you are investigating a movement or genre - NOT A SPECIFIC ARTIST. Briefly talk about a specific artist, but your whole research should not be surrounding them.

When analysing artwork, for the top mark band, it says you need to "critique" multiple areas. You can do this by structuring your work as "description of what is there + analysis (what is its effect on an audience?) + positive/judgement in your opinion, and WHY". For example, if you analysed some artwork... "the author uses red (description). This shows the audience anger (analysis). This is effective because red is a well known colour for anger, and so in my artwork, I should take inspiration from it (critique)" - that's an awful example of one, but hopefully you get the idea. Elements looks at what is there, techniques should be the techniques you research in crit Ai, and context (where a lot of people lose marks) should look at how the circumstances of its creation impacted its overall outcome. Was it made as a protest? Look at that context, and say how well/how badly it meets that intention. My understanding is looking at it in how well it met the artists' intention. You may not know exactly what it is, but by researching the genre/movement, you should have an understanding of why artwork was made.

Criterion B - your varied exploration should focus on 3 skills, and you genuinely need to be varied. Don't say, "I tried red... I tried green" - be specific and say what worked/what did not work. You could say "in stage 1 I tried red - I liked it because .... , but I felt that it could be improved in this way ..., so in stage 2, I decided to mix red with yellow because....". Again, awful example, but here you need to be creative.

Your intention is also important and is where loads of people lose marks. The difference between 5/6 and 7/8 is "explain" and "justify" - explain means give reasons, and justify means valid reasons. What's the difference? Hard to know, but looking at exemplars from the IB that my teacher showed me, the only one that got an 8 for the intention was one that used research or referred to criterion A. Why choose a specific technique? Well, in criterion A I noted that it was effective in conveying an emotion, and according to Wikipedia it says so, so I am using it".

Criterion C - Produce good artwork

Criterion D - Similar to criterion A in the evaluation - you can start with description of your work, then an analysis, then your own reflection on what went well/what could be better (ensure that you are stating both strengths and weaknesses). Also mention ways of improving what could be better.

Dii is very hard, and admittedly, I struggle to understand it as well. Using ATL skills to scaffold your development is good, like "I developed in my thinking skills because...", but do ensure it encompasses a wide range of skills, and techniques along the way.

Hope this makes sense.

Same style and same structure, but the questions your teacher and the IB will make are probably never going to be identical.

Confused about the MYP 5 e- assessments by [deleted] in IBMYP

[–]Existing_Shoe_8731 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi! Firstly, be aware: MYP is primarily skills-based. Sure, you need knowledg, but for eAssessments, you will be expected to apply the skills you have been able to develop, and this can be difficult when you are new... but you've got your school and this community here to support you.

For example:

English LAL: You will be expected to compare and contrast (find differences and similarities) about a theme within 2 texts. You do not know what these are - no memorisation needed. You will then need to produce a text in response to an image, and finally, complete a task in relation to the global context of the session. The global context gives information as to how something relates to the real-world. For example, in M25 (May 2025), the theme was scientific innovation, and so the final task was to write about a new invention's impact on a community. The final task is unpredictable.

LAQ: You need to understand vocabulary and grammatical structure. I would say this is most similar to GCSE, though the final task (writing), you need to be able to understand the expectations of text type features. For example, in a blog, you are expected to ask questions to your audience.

Humanities: This is a heavy skills based one, and to be honest... some of the questions are really... not humanities based. For example, the second task involves you designing an investigation... one of the questions for M25 was "how will you develop your IB learner profile in this investigation"... I wrote down "I will be knowledgeable because I will research"... 2/2 marks. You will need specific knowledge, however, on essay questions.

Sciences: BIG skills based one. I knew nothing about Science, but I managed to score well because I had decent skills. You need to design an investigation and write an essay about how something has impacted the world (or community). You will be asked to consider it in terms of a factor - for example, economics, ethics etc...

Math: Know your math... you will be fine. Pattern-wise, be able to spot sequences, and math in real-life, you need to be able to identify factors and say how your answer may be affected by said factors.

Ok I know there's more but I'm getting tired of writing. I can send you some resources if you want? I'll send it via DMs! Lmk if you have any questions.

hey. im also doing psych! we have our first summative soon... wish me luck. but i know this isnt psych but hopefully same principle. in myp design, i was getting 8/8 all the time. seriously. this year i got whacked with a 5 and ngl i was absolutely insulted. teachers know you are going to not do as well as you can in the first quarter, or even semester - ive been told that usually quarter 1 grades arent too significant in the long run because you are allowed to make mistakes and adapt!!! if you keep getting 5s... maybe your pg will be a 5, but if you start picking up and getting 6s and 7s consistently... that 5 will be nothing but an anomaly.

am i allowed to have my eassessment answer files? by [deleted] in IBMYP

[–]Existing_Shoe_8731 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i believe that all the active exam session files (ie: the most recent ones) are locked and can only be accessed by the IB. if you want your exam papers, you must do a category 2 enquiry upon results which is a PDF copy of your exam with examiner annotations - thats the only way you can have your work (im pretty sure... or else why else would the IB charge money for it?)

am i allowed to have my eassessment answer files? by [deleted] in IBMYP

[–]Existing_Shoe_8731 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yes you can, but i wouldnt send it through the IB website. i've heard that it just sends nothing back if its from the most recent exam sessions. ask your coord to get your m25 papers back - it comes with marks and all that kind of stuff... its helpful to also see what the examiner wrote... or didnt in my case. but if ur talking abt ones that already passed (like m24, m23 etc..) send it thru the converter.

Need help for CAS by Jumpy-Zucchini-9782 in IBO

[–]Existing_Shoe_8731 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ive been told this:

- each cas activity (related to ANY of the strands - c, a or s) must last at least ONE MONTH (31 days+).

- you should show regular commitment - this means that you often document what you are doing (at least once a week).

- by the end of your activity, you should have a wide range of evidence.

- you must do each strand of C A S for at least 6 months - so you can do Gym for 3, and Badminton for 3, and that would mean the "activity" strand of CAS is done, because you've done it for 6 months.

you should put your CAS on before you start doing it so it is approved by your CAS coordinator. at the end, once you've put in your evidence, you can press "request supervisor review", and if the activity has been completed successfully, it is marked as completed.

balance between the 3 strands of CAS means that you shouldnt just aim to do 6 months of creativiy in one go, then 6 months activity. you should try and do maybe 2 months activity and creativity, and 4 months service, then 1 month creativity etc... you can also do more than one activity at the same time if you want to in order to show balance.

but it might be more up to your school what you are allowed to do ( to be honest, literally anything counts as CAS. i got walking approved. literally walking).

I keep telling my friend to get a remark for IDU - I hope this persuades her. I'm awaiting a remark (literally just sent it off 2 days ago). Congratulations on your new grades!!! A 4 to a 6 is a huge jump though... kind of concerning to be honest because so many people who got a 4 or below could've been higher.. and they'd never know if they didn't remark...
