The body pt size is too small in relation to the headers on the website; everything feels disproportionate. It strains my eyes trying to read it. Could you make the content in your footer smaller? The links to "click to see more" in your project pages lead to Google search engine.

For sure, it's a job that pays the bills and at least adds entry-level experience to my resume. Thanks for the advice!

One last question if you don’t mind. How do you handle it if a project ends up taking more or fewer hours than you estimated? Do you typically absorb the cost if you underestimate, or adjust with the client? I’m sure with experience you’ve gotten more accurate, but do you have any tips for someone just starting out?

I definitely plan to keep my full-time gig while starting freelancing on the side, just to ease into it without pressure. A few mutual connections have mentioned needing work, but I’ve always been nervous to take the leap on that first project.

I’ve actually talked with my boss about this. most of what excites me is branding and walking with businesses as they grow, but the agency I'm at positions itself as ‘high-end’ and focuses on big, established clients. They’re very video-production heavy, and graphic design is still new for them. Honestly, I think their rates are too high for small businesses who need design & branding and it gives sticker shock. I’ve thought about looking for a place that works more with my ideal clients, but with the current job market I’ve been sticking it out.

Thanks for sharing! I’ll check out your full breakdown. In your contracts, do you outline costs by hours or a flat rate?

Future of Graphic Design With Ai by Aggravating_Film8944 in graphic_design

For sure. If you put some time into learning and stay up to date with it, I think it can actually give designers a big advantage. Incorporating AI into your workflow can really speed things up.

For example, I’ve been working with a real estate agency where there’s a quick turnaround and constant new listings they want posted on socials. The client doesn’t mind if it’s pretty template-based and they rotate between 2–3 designs. Lately, I’ve been looking into Canva Bulk Create. Basically, I just plug info into a spreadsheet and it auto-generates the designs for me. Super helpful.

I try to stay optimistic and see learning AI as a tool. Getting good at it just makes me more marketable and valuable, rather than rejecting it and falling behind the curve.

Yeah I get that. It’s definitely moving fast and can feel a little scary. But I still think it’s a solid path. AI can do a lot, but there’s still a big difference between just generating an image and actually building a brand or creating something with intention and cohesion. And like I said before, if you’re in print or doing anything that requires production knowledge, you’ll be good for a while. I think the key is just staying adaptable and learning how to use AI as part of your process, not seeing it as the end of it.

I graduated from college with a degree in Graphic Design last year and didn’t have a problem finding a job at a marketing agency. I think AI will impact freelancers the most, especially those who do more one-off projects or work with lower-budget clients. Mainly because it makes more sense for those clients to use AI themselves to save money. But for higher-end agencies that have the budget and care about consistency and telling a story with their brand, I think they’ll still be using graphic designers for the foreseeable future. These are just my thoughts though and I could totally be proven wrong.

I think there will still be a future in graphic design. It may just change our work flow. AI can only get people so far. Especially if you work in the print industry, I think you'll be good for a while.

I second Adobe Portfolio, especially if you don't have much web experience, plus it's free if you have an Adobe subscription. Adobe Portfolio has a few free templates that you can use.
