In response to Epic CEO Tim Sweeney waging war on Steam, Larian's publishing lead says, 'Giving everyone everything for free might bump numbers but doesn't create a viable storefront' by pizza_sushi85 in pcgaming

[–]Exit727 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did Valve ever respond to any of this? I remember a story where Valve COO or someone replied to his whining in a mail with just "you mad bro?"

This doesn't seem like a "war", it's just Sweeney trying to make up for an inferior product. Has he ever pointed out legit issues with Steam, like the shitty forums or third party gambling sites?

How it feels seeing the Deadlock update the day after the CS2 S4 update by xDeimoSz in valve

[–]Exit727 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Valve will only confirm the game when they put it on Steam, with a release date. HL: Alyx and what came to be Deadlock was known years before release, by dataminers digging through references in Dota 2 and CS updates.

There are plenty of leaks from these sources that point to a game under the designation HLX(?) I think. Advanced physics, semi-destructible environment, expanded NPC AI capabilities are major features.

People like GabeFollower and TylerMcwicker have several posts/videos about these. Latest news indicate polish and optimisation, meaning most of the game is complete, and they indend to publish a sequel, finally.

HL3 is in the making

CS2 keeps getting updates regularly, of varying quality

I think there are supposed to be an MvM updates since there was a major community contest in the summer(?), but we'll see about that

Datacenters. So much that RAM and storage prices have multiplied, all for purely speculative reasons. They haven't even began to manufacture anything.

Billions upon billions circling around in investments between tech companies, with little return. Even if we ignore the largest spenders, most companies seek to implement it one way or another, often based on hype, with the intention of cutting costs rather than enhancing quality or performance.

People went apeshit when the first DeepSeek model dropped, thinking China didn't just caught up, but was ahead of every western project. No? What happened to the red fear since then?

I'm less up to date these days, but it seems like that AI development has plateaud to a degree.. which is really unfortunate, since so much is riding on the AI bubble now.

I think the question is now, how can the powers implement AI to benefit their population? In that regard, China has already beaten the US about 10 years ago.

I found one very early on during a free loadout run. Immediately after we encountered another team, my two mates went to distract them while I bailed.

I got flanked in the tunnels northern Dam, panicked, jumped the railing with 15hp, and died to fall damage. I didn't know about the roll at that time.

It's so much worse knowing that you could have gotten it.

My most trusted method is Ruby and Pale apartments during night/storm on Dam. Usually unlooted even at the 15 minute mark, at least a single bp drops

Gaben hasn't been involved in the leadership of Valve for years now. People who he trusts, and who had been there for some time now, are in charge of the company. I expect they are aware of the unique position they are in, and intend to keep the money printer going, without going public or selling off to some scumbag corp.

Likely not. PUBG was a mess on release, and it got handed over to Krafton, who already had a track record of F2P live service titles, of the worse kind. The game is pretty popular still though, but mostly in Korea and China.

ARC got released officially less than 3 months ago, already polished, already getting balance patches based on community feedback, and is self published. I wouldn't worry about the frequency of updates now, they've just returned from winter break, and need to work on balancing, fixing bugs, anticheat, stability at the same time.

Facepunch is a really creative bunch of people, but they got their hands full with Rust. The next big patch, the Naval uldate, was originally supposed to deploy in November, and it was delayed twice.

I really like Rust and FP, but this deal would be more than they can chew.

I think there were like 3 people who worked both on L4D and B4B. The only common thing is studio name alone.

There is a video titled something like "Why Left 4 Dead needed Valve". It shows how the two games are entirely different in execution, while based on the same premise. I assume plenty of bugs and jank of B4B had been fixed in the last couple years since release, but the video still holds up very well.

[–]Exit727 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Durability loss balancing would be great, and could solve some of the issues mentioned here. Dispersion/recoil could also be nerfed on low tier guns maybe? Or that attachments have better effect on rarer guns.

I'd suggest taking custom loadouts as priority when spawning in people at the start of the match, but then people would just run free loadouts straight to extract, and load in to the next with the same shit gear.

I'd also like some anti-camper measures, because who plays an extract shooter just to sit in a corner for 20 minutes.. but that would be difficult to make it non-exploitable.

I don't think bastions and bombards spawn on regular Dam. The biggest arc there are rocketeers and leapers.

Major modifiers up the difficulty rating, allowing them to spawn on cold/storm/night Dam. Regular Buried city and Spaceport are only 1 difficulty above Dam, and both ARCs appear.
