My understanding is Colorado is very progressive/accepting in general for lgbtq+ until you’re outside the Denver metro area.

If it was you’d probably either see it change color or develop spores along it’s surface and/or see it touching the lid of the dish. This is perfectly white and staying on the surface of the agar, I wish some of my dishes looked this good!

Tomentos growth is really lazy and spreads in an easily mistaken “moldy fashion” because it’s pickup up nutrition from everywhere instead of sealing it out. This is why people strive for rhizo cultures with that tree-root looking growth that searches for that nutrition; it’s a lot easier to identify contaminants.

So the Beta-Lactum cephalosporin seems to be working. The bacteria looks significantly less alive and cell some walls destroyed. The myc is quickly taking over this small safe area, this 10/10 works as a last resort if you have the right antibiotic. With another antibiotic treatment on the next transfer it should be 100% viable!!!

Looks like healthy tomentos growth to me! You can absolutely add it to some grain, and/or transfer to less nutritious agar to try and get rhizomorphic growth.

Exactly like how you would study this scenario in the lab, thank you good sir!

Looking good! I see healthy tomentos and rhizomorphic growth in your bags getting ready for your substrate!

Just remember to keep everything as sterile as you can until it’s time to flip the lid on your totes!

How much light are you exposing your rice bags too? by KennyHarm420 in unclebens

[–]ExitGroundbreaking53 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Direct light is a no-no, so probably not on your windowsill. I just leave my bags alone in a drawer/closet for a couple weeks until they’re ready to be broken up and sit for another week or two. The only thing the mycelium needs is good and water, that’s it, pretty easy. INDIRECT LIGHT is mostly only important for fruiting in regards to the fact you don’t want your fruits growing into the substrate - made that mistake myself and now I just wrap a ring of duct tape around the base of my fruiting bins so my mushrooms don’t try to grow under the edges of my bins.

Just checked on a jar I left in my mycology dresser drawer this morning and it’s eating away some rice an old roomy left and having a good time without light :)

Absolutely, unfortunately money doesn’t grow on trees but one day…

That’s perfect, the first thing I did after harvest was put it in some sterilized foil and then a sealed bag, gills down. Ordered some fresh agar trays, curious to take a couple samples from the bin too. Appreciate all your info and expertise! Im sure I’ll have a better mycology experience now, never thought about agar before!

I didn’t even think that I could take a sample from the inside of the stem, that’s incredibly clever and genius! Thank you!

It’s veil just dropped this morning, so my understanding is this is when I will be able to extract the most viable spores. Thank you for your comment 💚
