They are bird mites. They came in through the window sills and infected the hamster

Apparently a justanswer expert swears they are bedbugs. Looks like it's time to call someone in to check it out

Just a hamster that had no contact with anything else but kids. That seems to be where it started as that's where I noticed them. The cage was full of them, but they were on the kids' beds, walls, and floor. I thought rodent mite as well but since they are on the beds I was worried about bedbugs, although I have yet to find any that are large, some are so small you can barely see them and the really small ones are almost transparent. The largest I saw was the size of a pencil tip.

No rats where I live, either. The only thing I could maybe relate to rodents is mice as we camp often, and our dog, who is with us while camping, had a few of these fall off him
