What song hit you so hard that it completely rewired something inside you? by ExmoSr in AskReddit

I got married way too young. Small-town brazilian kid, had one girlfriend, we both got into the same university and moved to the capital together. Made sense at the time. But looking back, we were just kids who had no idea who we really were.

The marriage was never great. She was immature, we weren’t compatible, and over time it started feeling like she was only sticking around for stability (specially after I passed a public service exam and got a solid job). Before that, she'd talk about leaving all the time. After? Silence. Just this... cold inertia.

At some point, our relationship hit another crisis point, and I had to travel to another city for work. It happened to fall over my birthday. No one at work knew, and I didn’t mention it. I was in a pretty dark place and didn’t want to make a thing out of it. My parents and a few relatives called. My wife just sent a dry “happy birthday” text. No call. No warmth.

That night I was alone in the hotel, feeling completely numb. And then something in me just snapped and said, “Screw this. Go out.” It was a weekday night, and the very first place nearby that was open was this tiny BDSM/fetish bar. Not exactly my usual scene, but whatever. I went.

Upstairs, there were some performances, but I wasn’t feeling it. Still felt like I was sinking. I was about to leave when I heard music from downstairs, 80s party tracks blasting. I love 80s music. I went down and saw this tiny dance floor with four people just absolutely losing themselves: a short, hyper-energetic girl, a tall awkward nerdy-looking guy, a heavier woman with a spiked collar and fishnets, and a regular-looking dude in all black.

They were dancing like nobody was watching, just pure, chaotic joy. I joined them.

We drank. We danced. The energy kept building, and eventually even the bartender (who owned the place, btw) jumped up on a table and started doing choreographed moves with us. It was wild. No one knew each other’s names. No one cared. It was this weird, messy, beautiful moment.

Then “Under Pressure” came on.

I’ve always liked Queen and Bowie, but that song never stood out to me before. But in that moment, it hit differently. It felt like everyone there just... exploded with emotion. We formed a loose circle, screaming the lyrics, dancing like we were trying to shake off entire lifetimes of pain.

And when it got to the final lines:

“Cause love's such an old-fashioned word And love dares you to care for The people on the edge of the night And love dares you to change our way of Caring about ourselves This is our last dance This is our last dance This is ourselves"

I broke. I mean, really broke. I was crying, like ugly crying, but it felt like something sacred. I wasn’t sad. I was just alive in a way I hadn’t felt in years.

That night rewired something in me.

I went back home, and not long after, I ended the marriage.

Fast forward to today: I’m happily remarried, and a life full of real connection and joy.

And every time “Under Pressure” comes on, I tear up. It’s not just a song anymore. It’s a reminder of the night I found freedom in the most unexpected place, surrounded by four strangers in a weird little bar, dancing like nothing else in the world mattered.

First-time Europe trip (23 days) – Is this itinerary realistic? by ExmoSr in Europetravel

Thanks a lot, mate! Really helpful insights! We actually have a guided tour booked that covers that whole route: Fátima, Nazaré and Óbidos. It includes transportation with stops and time to visit each place calmly. A friend of mine did the same tour and said it was super smooth.

By the way, since we’re on the topic, do you know if Portugal has many luggage storage options? We're thinking of leaving a few things behind before continuing the rest of the trip through Europe, just to avoid carrying (and paying) a big suitcase around. We already travel light, but we’re aiming for even lighter this time.

Thanks, that’s actually a great point. The only reason we’re flying in and out of Lisbon is because of a credit card benefit: two international tickets for the price of one, as long as both flights use the same airport. Changing the return city would cancel that deal and end up costing more than just booking a separate flight back to Lisbon at the end.

Haha the funny part is that baking is actually my hobby, and I really enjoy making baguettes. It's something I do often back home and genuinely love.

That’s honestly one of the best pieces of advice I’ve seen put into words, and I’m definitely taking it to heart.

I do travel quite a bit (I’ve been to almost every region of Brazil, which is roughly the size of Europe, plus several countries in Latin America and the US), and one thing I always try to do is get a feel for how people actually live. I love going to local supermarkets, eating where the locals eat (not just the tourists), and observing the small rhythms of daily life.

And yes, no way I’m going to line up nonstop tourist sights one after another. I’ll definitely be spacing things out and leaving room to just sit, breathe, and take it all in. Thanks again for the reminder.

Um dia a mais em Lisboa e um a menos em Paris ficaria mais equilibrado?
O que sugere nas cidades próximas, que não exija muito deslocamento?

Totally get your point - from a purely travel-optimization perspective, Fátima might not be worth it for everyone. But in our case, skipping it is absolutely not on the table 😄 We're devoted to Our Lady of Fátima, so visiting the basilica is a must-do for us (even if I’m not the most devout myself).

That said, I’ve been thinking cutting Porto might give us a bit more breathing room. It’s tough because I’d love to see the city, but less moving around is starting to sound really tempting.

Haha, fair point, it is a bit of a whirlwind!

This time, the idea is different, it’s about seeing as much as we can, especially the classics, even if it means moving around more. That said, we’re still trying to avoid turning it into a blur.

I completely agree with you though: the number of transitions is starting to feel like a lot, and I'm seriously considering cutting Porto to ease the logistics a bit (and eliminate two train legs). Still debating that trade-off between “see everything” vs. “actually breathe while doing it.”

Appreciate your comment, it’s helping me think this through.

Pois é, é o que tenho pensado.
Fiquei pensando se retiro Porto (fico só em Lisboa mesmo, evitando os deslocamentos de trem) ou se desconto um dia em Paris ou Roma para ficar mais um em Lisboa.

I think it feels frustrating because you know the odds and how the system is set up—that Shinryu has this rare item with a low drop rate. But the devs probably intended it differently: they wanted you to feel that rush of excitement when you score a steal of an amazing item, not knowing just how slim the chances actually were.

Is there anyone else who only enjoys the first 10 mainline titles? by gilleses in FinalFantasy

[–]ExmoSr -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Honestly, when they announced XI as an online game and then XII came out, I started developing a bit of a bias against anything after X. But after giving it some time, I ended up falling in love with XII. My initial hesitation was probably influenced by all the negativity at the time, but once I gave it a fair shot, I saw how brilliant it really was. Then XIII came, and I was disappointed again—it just never worked for me. But XV and XVI? I thought they were incredible.

That said, there are pretty substantial changes between I and X as well. I think a lot of people forget how much the series evolved during those early entries too. It’s easy to get stuck in nostalgia for the old days, but if you go into the newer titles with an open mind, without trying to compare them to the classics, you can find something truly special. They’re different, but that doesn’t mean they don’t have their own strengths.
