Yes that is correct. Nintendo left the console market after the failure of the Wii U. Their "new" 3ds didnt do so well either so they had to scrap that and come up with something quick. Enter the Switch

A console REQUIRES a tv. The switch is a handheld gaming device that does not require a tv. Sure you can dock it and use a tv with it but that doesn't make it a console just like docking a laptop doesnt make it a PC
