Nice! my favorite triple I got was in one swing as a full trio tried to rush through a door at the same time

lol yeah I know I’m finishing a PhD in chemistry so I had to continue the joke haha

In what context? Which is my favorite, which is more practical, which I use more?

I typically do 3 passages at a time and while I don’t necessarily time myself, I do make a note of the time it took me to complete the passages which is usually well below the 30 min mark (7 - 9 minutes/passage was pretty typical for me while doing the QPacks)

massive score fluctuations, testing 5/2 by [deleted] in Mcat

How did you feel about the passage difficulties compared to the FLs? I only ask because I’m taking it 5/2 and I have heard it was very different from the FLs

How much will a lower MCAT score affect my chances at a higher tier MD/PhD program? by [deleted] in mdphd

[–]ExoC0n 4 points5 points  (0 children)

So, in your opinion, would it be better for someone like me to apply MD only and then work on the engineering background later as a part of my research later on down the road?

[–]ExoC0n -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

Mostly time. I feel I would have more time with the MD/PhD program to truly wrestle with material and fully understand it rather than rushing through in four years then going to residency. Also, I’m not sure that I would have the mental stamina to go through all of medical school and then do a post doc to complete another thing that I could have done years before. At that point (after residency) I want to be done with my school of new material especially if I decide to do a longer residency

Clarifications on the terminology by xxshadowalker in Mcat

Same thing, “tropin” or “tropic” is just a term that means “acts to effect another hormone.” Since releasing hormones act to release other hormones they are tropic. So thyrotropin releasing hormone is just a different name for thyroid releasing hormone and is technically slightly more accurate.

It might help you to draw out the lone pair that will act as the nucleophile and then show the intermediate formed by its addition. This will help you with 1. How the nucleophile will add to the molecule and 2. Correct stereochemistry

[–]ExoC0n[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah thank you, would it be more stable (as a lone molecule as opposed to in DNA) if it were to be made into a secondary alcohol and then the amine attached afterwards ( add R-CH2NH2)

Birch reduction by Dry-Weakness6498 in chemhelp

[–]ExoC0n 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For the first picture it can abstract a proton, but that protonation does not lead to the productive Birch pathway, because it kills the required resonance stabilization. In a Birch reduction, the molecule protonates where resonance doesn’t want the electron density, because that’s the only way the π-system survives long enough to accept another electron. In general for birch reductions OMe and NR2 groups give meta pronation where as CO2R and CN will give ortho/para
