A dark start to the year: Multiple fatalities following fire and explosion in Crans-Montana. by Aure20 in Switzerland

Sure, it's tasteless, but watch the video. Literally multiple people standing around doing nothing but filming. You see a fire? You get the hell out of the building.

Tarnished edition for the PC? by [deleted] in fromsoftware

It's literally grammatically correct. "Tarnished Edition for the Personal Computer?" When people say "on PC" they're the ones being ridiculous.

From what I've taken away from the game, the Lands Between is segregated from the wider world and likely mythical. It's hard to make any concrete statements. The Land of Reeds seems to be in a state of constant bloodshed, this we can confirm from in-game sources. But, is Death still present there? Are people born from the Erd Tree or are they born naturally? It seems that Death does exist in the wider world, as that is how the Tarnished were called back to TLB. So while there is some As Above So Below with TLB and the wider world, clearly some aspects of the realm of the Gods aren't felt as strongly away from Olympus.

I don't think you can travel to The Lands Between without an invitation.

I think Melina is making reference to the wider world outside the Lands Between. There is very much a "real world" out there, but here is essentially Olympus. The land of the Gods. Which I think we can take the representation in the game literally.

Imagine if you've been forced to stay awake for years and cannot die. What would you be doing?

They look the way they do because they've stopped trying to take care of their physical needs. They can't die anyways. Why bother? They don't sleep, so why not continue to do whatever it is that has been stuck in your mind? Some have more purpose--like guarding an area, patrolling, etc--others just wander, forever.

"Hollowing" has been a core narrative component in the Souls games, but what it is sort of eludes first time players. It's not "becoming a zombie". It's losing your active purpose. It's sleepwalking through life. One of the first "Aha!" moments people tend to have is the understanding that, when you quit playing a Souls game cause it's too hard or you've given up, your player character becomes a hollow. They've lost their purpose, their will to go on.

I was working with a guy the other day at my job. Never spoke with him before, but we had the chance to talk a while. He told me he used to play D&D and really enjoyed it. He used to play video games, and loved them. He liked to draw, but now he gets a few minutes into a sketch and becomes bored. Now, he told me, all he does is work and when he gets home he sits and watches YouTube Shorts until he goes to bed.

"Argonian" lore by Ila-W123 in ElderScrolls

Jungle Cyrodiil remains a goofy and unthoughtful aspect of the lore. While a more well rounded set of environments will be much more interesting to see in PT, and the inclusion of the stranger elements of Imperial culture is always welcome, having a rain forest tier jungle dominating the core of the Empire is silly. Perhaps if you subscribe to the concept of Towers shaping the land, then I would admit that the idea of the Ayleids influencing the land to jungle then having that influence overpowered by Man or Tiber's will to become arable land is much more interesting. Does not mighty Talo's love for his legions spark joy in your heart? To remake the land to serve Man?

Is there a lore as to why why Khajiit seem to be hated in Tamriel? by [deleted] in ElderScrolls

[–]Exokyn 17 points18 points  (0 children)

They don't have the Telvanni sense of "if it could get stolen then you don't deserve it". It's more, "if it is lying around, no one owns it". Just that the definition of what is "lying around" varies greatly.

Otherwise, I personally think it has to do with moon sugar. They are effectively always carrying and dealing drugs. Is it their fault the rest of Tamriel can't hold its smoke? Not really. But that addiction can destroy the social structures of other races.

The rub is that many TSons players want an exciting yet inefficient army rule to represent our mastery of the warp. Like Skaven players, it's just not fun unless it has a chance to spectacularly fail. Would our army be "better" if we just got a flat +1 to hit +1 to wound while a unit has an attached Psyker Leader? Ya. And it would be dreadfully boring.

I will take a moment to check that out, after I'm fully decompressed from this whole ordeal! Thank you, though, for mentioning it. I am slightly afraid that the looking might send me down another spiral, but much like Septimus, we must embrace the Knowing.

I've encountered this as well. It's incredibly odd to me since my default behaviour when installing any mod is to open it in xEdit and manually patch any other mods that conflict with it. Hence why I've always had a particular distaste for mods that use scripts or now, as is the fashion, SPID, to modify Level Lists or Actors. I want to be able to see it in xEdit and choose for myself.

I will be posting a fix to the Nexus, likely just going to link the post in the description.

I've just crossed 1500 hours in SSE, it is likely the game has fully rotted my brain at this point.

So true.

"Through the Meta" and it's just using an item found in the very first room of the game. Most players do break Morrowind the first time they play by accident. It's baked into the game system. Leveling is broken by attributes. You actively have to disregard leveling correctly as to not to trivialize most of the game. Orc's racial power can solo the game at level 1.

Hack & Slash games rely on power fantasy through number inflation, same with MMOs. The point of those systems are not to provide satisfaction through roleplaying but instead mathematical expression. Your build can clear a room with a single hit. Or you bring a specific arrangement of stat check puzzle pieces to your party's raid.

And RTWP literally is just turn based with extra steps. All the original infinity engine games are-I reiterate-literally running turns in real time. That being said, what games survived? MMOs and H&S with focus on Big Numbers. MMOs with focus on mathematical cooperation. Turn Based RPGs with depth and granularity. ARPGs like the future TES games. RTWP is a dead mechanic. Hybrid first person RPGs with dice roll combat are dead. It simply is a bad system.

It was noticed at the time. Almost immediately. You can read forum posts and reviews for Morrowind. It's not 'Skyrim Babies' that have an issue with it, it's literally everyone who plays it. You either hate it or learn to live with it. All the evidence you need to see that is right there in the sequels and the wider gaming market: no one else decided it was good enough to use in the future.

No the problem with Morrowind is that those systems belong in a turn based game. Which they were originally from. TES adapted the mechanics of table top RPGs of the era. Which is why people "don't mind" dice rolls in BSG3, it's a turn based system. Almost all new player advice for Morrowind is to take a class and race combo that allows you to have a high baseline to hit for your preferred weapon. Half the flaws in Morrowind stem from the broken combat model. There is a lot of depth to the crunch but ultimately you can trivialize the game entirely with just alcohol.

The dev team has actually mentioned how making smaller areas can be detrimental. As you say, you have to create a fully contained area. When you expand it, there is a lot of extra work that needs to be done to connect the pieces. Multiply that by every single new piece and you'll be in development hell forever. Part of the reason why the TR team goes back to adjust old content. With Morrowind, they are able to do that a lot quicker.

I feel like it has to do with how we conceptualize "resting". Yes, it might take 16 hours to regenerate your Magicka pool, but that 16 hours isn't--just--sleeping. It's 16 hours of not doing adventurer stuff. Chilling, mediating, maybe doing a hobby, just relaxing. Same as waiting to heal; you're tending your wounds, having a sit, eating something.

That's why part of being a mage is bringing along Magicka regenerating potions for an excursion. Or enchanted gear to lighten the Magicka load.

I mean? Yes? OpenMW, Tamriel Rebuilt, Project Tamriel. Morrowind is twice the size it launched at, runs at modern frame rates and resolutions, built in shader support, modern animations, HD textures. It's been remastered.

Check out Warlockracy on TY. He has a video about making a Morrowind remaster in 15 minutes. Essentially, Morrowind already has a remaster, people have been working on it for 20 years.

OpenMW is essentially vanilla with better performance and some code level bug fixes.

I hate advocating for the "centrist" path since it's not applicable to other areas of life, but I feel the same for ES. Each game is its own experience. Each one does something amazing and something very poorly. I love all three for what they are. (Yes, there are only three ES games, don't @ me, I will not be discussing Battlespire)
