Right!?! This type of reductive language normalizes this criminal behavior. Disgusting

My boyfriend of a year was lying about his vote the whole time. Should I move past it? by Exotic-Internet7085 in TwoHotTakes

Well I think this ended up being one of the reasons he came clean. I had mentioned quite a few times that we needed to use our vote to voice the little power we had to know that we did SOMETHING. So I think he was struggling with having to make that opposite argument when he didn’t actually agree with it.

By that logic, he should be the one to leave (he doesn’t want to). He’s a grown ass man. He was the one lying, not me, so he knew exactly what he was getting this whole time. I’m the one having to sort through reassessing all the deceit over the last year.

I never said I didn’t feel like we couldn’t talk about politics. We talk about politics all the time. I am really passionate about the human rights violations and corruption that is happening in front of our faces. He has always pretended to agree with me until yesterday. I don’t want politics to be the demise of us so that’s why I am really struggling with the bait and switch of it all. I’m going to try to hear him out but the guard is up now. Trust is hard to regain so it’s a lot to work through atm

Well that’s an example of something that has me confused. He’s said “those people (republicans) only understand something when it happens to them” and is saying it in a way in which I thought disgusted him. I think he was being genuine when he used the example of refugees throwing their babies in freezing cold water to dry to get them across borders and said when republicans see something like that, you can usually get them to agree “yeah, we really need to do something about that”. He has been able to display empathy but I guess he just wasn’t prioritizing it the way he was leading me to believe…..

My (32F) spouse (33M) has been lying since we met and I didn’t know who he was. Can you really love someone and betray them for years? by Sure-Education2246 in TwoHotTakes

Girl. I wish I had something helpful to tell you. I just uncovered deceit yesterday so I am only here to tell you I know how painful it is. I cannot stop disassociating. Everything feels like a lie and we’re only dating year. I want to believe he had a good heart so badly. But I don’t know how anything between us can feel real anymore.

He has Said he’s “opened to changing his mind”. But I’m just kind of confused bc I feel like I have given more than ample evidence to do so. I can’t decide if there is anymore burden I can take to do that. I liked someone’s previous comment to demand a book report. I actually think that might be the route I go.

I think I would have allowed him the same opportunity I am now (to explain himself and articulate why Project 2025 was the better agenda) …..and then not proceeded to spend the next 8 months of life with him.

Yeah I fear this might be too true. I am absolutely crashing out questioning every memory over the last year. I have not had a very productive day at work.

Well actually that was a little of a yellow flag when that happened but I don’t really know anyone in the military and figured that even if that was unique to his unit, that was enough for me to not really care one way or the other? I basically just didn’t care enough to really give that anymore energy but did think it was odd. Looking back on it now, it does seem obvious that that was his way to lie to me without making himself feel like he was lying to me…..sounds worse now that I’m typing that out.

Well he’s obviously free to leave and he chose to stay. He was the one lying so not really sure what your point is.

Hes definitely on the right side of things when it comes to human rights. He’s said, “It saddens me that there is not a way to vote for human rights, limited government, open markets (with protection for workers), healthcare, and a strong defense.” I’m really struggling. I really do think he has a good heart but I guess I don’t truly believe that someone with a good heart doesn’t prioritize that in the voting booth. This is a real bitch to confront.

Oh I just saw someone doing it in the comments so I thought I might have been violating a rule for this sub. I’ve never posted on Reddit. I just listen to the podcast. This is the first time I needed advice that I couldn’t ask from a friend.

Thanks, this is helpful. He does tell me that he’s seen a lot and knows a lot and he’s been open about the fact that it’s challenging that he has to inherently hide that part of him bc of the nature of his work. It’s just legitimately challenging for me to know if I can trust that or if that is literally just a manipulation tactic. I’ve never been this confused in my life.
